    I'm so happy I was able to get back here this year. Truly my favorite park destination of all time!! Before my last visit, I hadn't gone since early 2013. I was absolutely blown away this year. VelociCoaster instantly became my #1 coaster after my first ever ride at night. Great video.

    Dudley Doright cartoons are still my favorite with their absurdity. (Watch the sawmill one. The ride is loosely based on it) The ride surely captures it. Popeye's is another favorite toon + ride. I love your top 20. They are SPOT on! You can easily spend 2-3 days there + City Walk. A coaster lovers paradise with plenty of other things to keep everyone HaPpY!

    I've been to the resort twice now-Once close to opening year, and once when Hogwarts opened. I have to say Forbidden Journey is one of the most intense rides I've ever been on, and one of the only ones to actually make me sick afterwards. I enjoyed each of the coasters there (even RRR was fun), and glad I got to ride the most amazing dueling coaster in the world before it got taken out multiple times. Can't wait to go back to check out Hagrid and Velocicoaster (and I guess the Gringotts side of HP land)

  • @OklahomaCoasterFan
    @OklahomaCoasterFan 2 года назад +1

    This is the ultimate example of comparing apples & oranges. I like it. I'll make my list before watching your video. My numbers 2 & 1 are basically a tie. I could go either way.
    20. Men in Black (I don't usually care for shooting dark rides, so to even make my list says a lot about how good it is)
    19. Jurassic Park River Adventure (only this high if I don't get wet)
    18. Punga Racers body slides
    17. Ohno / Ohyah drop slides
    16. ET
    15. Cat in the Hat
    14. Bourne Stuntacular (probably would be higher if I found the story/movies more interesting)
    13. Kala & Tai Nui Serpentine Body Slides
    12. Escape from Gringotts
    11. Simpsons
    10. Transformers
    9. Kong
    8. Mummy
    7. Spiderman
    6. Hagrid
    5. Incredible Hulk
    4. Rip Ride Rockit
    3. Krakatau
    2. Forbidden Journey
    1. Velocicoaster
    You mentioned the defunct rides, so I guess Dragon Challenge would slide in behind Bourne, but might be higher if I had a better memory of them. Back to the Future would be # 3 based on how much 12-yr old me loved it, but today, it would probably slide in barely ahead of Simpsons. Hanna Barbera would barely miss the cut.

      Yeah, shooting dark rides and wet rides while not in a swimsuit aren't really my thing. Those are probably my favorites of their types though. I did forget about Terminator, which used to be in the Bourne building. That would be ahead of Mummy.

    My favorites at the resort in no order
    Despicable Me Minion Mayhem. I am a sucker for this franchise.
    The Simpsons Ride. I love the humor of the series and how it was blended into a fun attraction.
    The Cat in the Hat. I have respect for Dr Seuss and this attraction captures the charm of his books.
    Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. I am not a fan of Harry Potter, but the ride was very immersive.
    Hagrids Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure. I only sat on the motorbike seat, but this was the sleeper hit of my trip to Florida.
    Incredible Hulk. I loved the launch tunnel and the power of this coaster.
    Velocicoaster. This is my number 4 coaster. I love everything it brings to the table. The mososarus roll is easily one of the best inversions anywhere.

    While I wouldn't personally rank MIB above Forbidden Journey, it is by far my favorite shooter dark ride. I don't usually care of shooters because they usually have cheap boring sets and practical effects. I think a dark ride should be able to stand on its own without the shooter elements. Very few pull that off. The one had Silver Dollar City also comes to mind as a good one. But MIB is fantastic. It's like a better version of the Monsters Inc ride even without the shooting. The ride is still immersive and well executed regardless of the shooting so the shooting just elevates it instead of acting as a substitute for better thematic elements.

    I’ve been to universal more times than I can count, but here’s my top 10:
    10. MIB
    9. Rip ride rockit
    8. E.T
    7. Escape from gringotts
    6. Forbidden journey
    5. Spider-Man
    4. The mummy
    3. The hulk (replacing the ride track did wonders for this one)
    2. Velocicoaster
    1. Hagrids (at night specifically)
    If you guys have never been on hagrids at night you’re seriously missing out. It makes the ride feel so much more immersive and it actually feels like you’re in the forbidden forest. But the velocicoaster is better than hagrids during the day imo

  • @MattMcIrvin
    @MattMcIrvin 2 года назад +1

    The Simpsons Ride is, I am afraid, on the short list of "rides Matt McIrvin traumatized his poor family with" (list also includes both Boulder Dash and the Yankee Cannonball). It is a bit more intense than one would expect from the theme. If I'd known it was a retheme of the old Back to the Future ride I'd probably have warned them away.
    It's amazing I even got them on Gringotts, which they loved. Everyone loved Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges, too--that is a ride that doesn't get nearly the level of respect it deserves.
    I did not ride any of the coasters at Universal apart from Gringotts, thanks to some mild digestive distress on my one visit that lowered my thrill tolerance a bit. But I'd certainly like to go back and give them a try.

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  2 года назад +2

      Gringotts is probably less intense than Simpsons Ride to be honest.

    • @MattMcIrvin
      @MattMcIrvin 2 года назад +1

      @@CanobieCoaster It is. Of course the intensity of The Simpsons Ride is 90% psychological--there's a motion base but it doesn't go anywhere. But the ride film is sort of an over-the-top parody of nauseating ride films.

    I had originally thought kinda low of Universal in terms of their upkeep. Back when I visited in 2019, there were tons of little things that broke the immersion. The things that come to mind were the jerky movements of the poor brachiosaurus from the beginning of Jurassic Park, and the smell of decades of dust in the ET ride. However, I got back from Disney a couple weeks ago and now I can say pretty definitively that Universal is outpacing Disney by MILES.

    • @gatsbysdead
      @gatsbysdead 2 года назад

      @TechMasterJason I’m going to vehemently disagree with y’all on this. I can appreciate that there were some missteps in the 90s and early 00s (glares angrily at Journey to Imagination), but there were some truly incredible attractions that came out of that time period. Tower of Terror is the best drop tower-style ride in the world. Dinosaur and Indiana Jones are two of the coolest thrill attractions I’ve ever ridden. Rockin roller coaster is still an incredible coaster, despite the fact that Vekoma restraints suck. Heck, even Everest is a masterclass in attraction-based storytelling and is a pretty great ride even with the Disco Yeti (though they should still fix my boy). There were definitely issues and budget cuts throughout this era of Disney, but I also think there was some INCREDIBLE groundbreaking work done. Disney (used to) take things like sight lines and immersion to a level Universal never has. My gripe here lately is that all the things that made Disney so great have fallen by the wayside. Where they used to finish the inside of set buildings because hotel guests could see inside, you actually have to drive past the backside of Galaxy’s Edge to get to your $4000 minimum immersive hotel experience. The Cosmic Rewind show building is a massive white structure just sitting in plain sight. Care and upkeep on attractions has gotten worse and worse, even as they charge more and more for admission. Their attraction output is just movie tie ins. Fastpass+ and lightning lane were/are hot garbage. Worst of all, they have systematically eroded their labor force to the point that all the problems I mentioned are much, much worse. The Disney difference isn’t much of a difference anymore.
      I had a marvelous time for the week that I was at Disney. I got to relive some of my happiest childhood memories and share them with my husband. That being said, I still could see the cracks I saw forming in my last trip in 2009 becoming massive rifts in the modern era. With Epic Universe’s opening, I find it very likely that Universal will outpace Disney. WDW will always have a place in my heart, but unless they step their game up, I may have a new place to make memories.
