Its that perfect environment of the Amazon that makes those little fish so hard to keep long term. Without a doubt Tetras have a harder time adapting to aquariums, than say ,Asian Barbs or Rasboras who don't seem to need any special waters..just warm and filtered. Also not so fussy on foods. What I've learned in 45 years of fish keeping. Nobody has an aquarium full of four year old Cardinals- right?😉
To be fair, they don't live that long in the wild either. Wild cardinal tetras are thought to be basically annual fish, they're born one year, and breed the next, and rarely if ever make it to two years of age.

There’s nothing special about keeping Southamerican Tetras and Apistogrammas? Just ordinairy tapwater just like everybody else. 🤗
