  • Have you ever wondered what your freshwater tropical fish’s homes look like in the wild and how they all interact in their natural habitat? Where do the tropical fish in your aquarium come from?
Legendary filmmaker Ivan Mikolji takes you on an underwater journey to secret locations in tropical jungles exploring 33 rivers and 7 different habitats.
Swim with the author and discover the unknown secrets of the world’s natural aquariums… the rivers.
Get valuable ideas on how to decorate and convert your tank into a natural aquarium.
The music from the FRESHWATER NATURAL AQUARIUM DOCUMENTARY was created by musical genius Elias Castro (Taremuru). We strongly recommend the use of headphones or good speakers so you can enjoy the music.

This is one of the most important types of videos to watch before starting to set up fishtanks. When you see Discus or Angels or Neons or Corys or cichlids in their natural settings. The difference is staggering. Nature knows what its doing, its been doing it for a very very long time.

Wow. At 17:00 it was great to see the plants of Vellozia doing so well.
I did not realise they grew in Venezuela, knowing there are a lot in Bahia and nearby States of Brazil.
Also it was great to see so many aquatic plants, Venezuela is lucky to have such diversity.

What a beautiful habitat these fish live in. Its sad I will probably never have access to see them in person outside of my aquarium setting. I've noticed most of these locations are non-tourist areas. I'd imagine you'd need an experienced local to guide you through these blackwater environments. At the same time, thats what makes them so beautiful is they are remote and untouched by humans... just captivating to see the diversity of nature.

Love the choice of music. It's uplifting when you show the beauty of the natural aquarium's flora and fauna and gets melodramatic when you talk about the biotopes vanishing due to overcollecting and pollution.
We need to get rid of the attractive "wild caught" classification in the aquarium business for things to change.

I'm so pleased that you make these videos. I often wonder what the natural habitats of the fish we aquarists keep. Finding out is not easy but, obviously the fish will be at their best when kept in as natural environment as possible. Thank you so much and I await eagerly for the next video.
