I had a TK20 in the early 60s. What a fantastically reliable, high quality tape recorder. I was really impressed by its Hysteresis motor, which was powerful but oh so quiet. I loved that thing! In 1969 I got the TK120, which suffered from incurable drop outs, was noisy, and wasn't a patch on the old faithful TK20.

Amazing. I am the only owner of one of these machines. Been up in a loft on a trunk many years. Harvey updating Grundig in TK20 videos gives me hope.

I had one that came from a dustman friend who claimed it thrown out in the mid 70s. Mine was the 4-track version. Incredibly accurate and sharp recording quality. The microphone 3 pin DIN plug provides a high voltage DC for a large round Grundig condenser mic that was highly sensitive. Rubber belts and wheels high quality.

I've just got this exact model. the volume control was completely seized rock solid. managed to get it freed up and got it to play fast forward etc. The one problem I have is recording. it barely erases the tape, and the audio recorded sounds like these is no bias, if any. it has all the old caps in it. do you know if anyone that does this kind of service? I'm in the West Midlands. I have bought a phono to 5 pin din lead and it has worked on my other grounding machine . regards Matthew

I have the same recording problem with my one. Its due to a failing capacitor on the bias oscillator. When I opened it up I realized I bit off more than i can chew. I couldnt find anyone who would service it because working on these machines is very time consuming due to their design and those that did offer services were charging amounts that I simply couldnt afford. So right now my machine i just in storage. If you find anyone to service it let me know as I am also on the lookout.
Thanks for taking an interest in my videos :-)

There's an EL95 in a isolated metal box. That's the erase oscillator and bias.

Hey, I have a tk20 in grey. Mine doesn't have text labels anywhere though, any chance you could provide some closeups of yours?

Hello. This machine got dismantled for parts a while back and i'm not sure where the plastic labels have gone. Thanks for watching though.
