I wouldn't expect anything other than a fine portrayal of Salome from a singing actress of Josephine Barstow's calibre, but also impressive is the way she moulds the vocal line with the same attention she used to give her Verdi heroines and then there are superb pianos and pianissimos full of meaning. A masterly performance.

Une interprétation tout à fait exceptionnelle de cette cantatrice que je ne connaissais pas...le final est tout à fait impressionnant de par la profondeur et la puissance de sa voix et son jeu d'actrice, vocalement, je pense qu'elle est au même niveau sinon supérieur à la version de Montserrat Caballé en récital au Carnegie Hall. j'admire en particulier cette possibilité donnée naturellement ou pas aux chanteuses d'opéra d'ouvrir à ce point leurs bouches pour en expulser cette qualité de voix, leurs lèvres parvenant à se distendre incroyablement, ce qui est le cas ici.BRAVO MADAME. DIDIER de FRANCE.

Many thanks for sharing this. I have a copy of this in my collection but the audio/video quality of yours is far superior. She performed Salome at the San Francisco Opera in 1982. She was so amazing that I went to 5 of the performances!
