Compliments. Félicitations.
So good to finally see this opera. I first heard it when I was about 15 (am now 69) on the CETRA SETwith the great Ferruccio Tagliavini and his wife Pia Tassinari. I've been in love with it ever since. In this performance Canonicii does a fine job, recalling some of the finer moments of Tagliavini's performance. The rest of this cast is solid throughout. Hopefully this performance will spur other revivals of this neglected opera and neglected composer.
+Charles Henry. I may not be 69 but at 53 I had the Cetra LP and listened to it as well and many other operas from Cetra and great singers. My Father also saw Tagliavini in this role in Italy during or after the Second World War. He also saw Gigli and Bjorling and recounted his experiences. So many truly great singers and vocal artists.
Thanks so much for posting this. Very beautiful and very endearing.

Amazing
Does anyone know which version of L'Arlesiana this is? According to various sources, there are four versions - the first version of 1897, the first revision of 1898, the second revision of 1910, and the third revision of 1937. I notice that this version is longer than at least one other version on RUclips by fifteen minutes or so, which suggests they are different versions. Thanks, in advance, for any suggestions!

Merci d'avance
Hi
You need to remember that this is a worldwide site. French, at this time, is the 10th most spoken lanuage in the world. Here is a list of the top 10 most spoken languages worldwide:
Mandarin Chinese (1.1 billion speakers) ...
English (983 million speakers) ...
Hindustani (544 million speakers) Spanish (527 million speakers) ...
Arabic (422 million speakers) ...
Malay (281 million speakers) ...
Russian (267 million speakers) ...
Bengali (261 million speakers
Portuguese (226 million speakers)
French (225 million speakers).
And this is not just theoretical.
I live in NYC and go to the MET a lot. I meet many more Russian and Portuguese speakers than French. (And the French are always complaining that they don't understand the singing in French) 😀
What happened to Frederico after he jumped out of the window according to the synopsis???
A ufo kidnapped him while he was falling down and Fox with Scully did their magic and brought him back to his family. True story
I don’t believe the synopsis specifies - nothing is written that isn’t shown or said. It’s implied that he dies, but it doesn’t show the aftermath, as that would reduce the final moment, ending on a climax. At least this version
It is no miracle that this opera never made it outside Italy. The music has no power, no character development and lacks excitement. Adriana Lecouvreur is his one and only interesting piece of work, in my opinion.
How is it that Cilea could write so beautiful an aria as Lamento di Federico yet the rest of the opera is such an impossible dud? By comparison, Adriana Lecouvreur is a towering masterpiece
Most of this opera is musically boring, including vs. Adriana Lecouvreur, but the story is still more compelling, poignant and organised and less cliched (even less stupid) than most. Even with yet another love triangle (rectangle?)
