This was a gift. I didn't know Scotto had such a beautiful clear tone. And di Stefano, his dynamics distinguish him as more than just another tenor. Wonderful concertm

Grazie Opera❤La Scotto era una grande regista di Madama Butterfly e una discreta cantante. Pippo forse non era un grande musicista, ma un cantante molto generoso si

Another amazing illustration of what a SENSATIONAL singing/actress Renata Scotto was; What a pity she never had the opportunity to record both on disc and film her supreme "Aida".The audience's reaction says it all!How wonderful it was to hear the GREAT di Stefano's beautiful voice as well.

Scotto never performed the role of Aida.

@@Twentythousandlps I did not say that she did; From what I heard on that clip I was thinking how special an "Aida" she would have been to see/hear .I do have a laser disc(yes! ) of her singing with Elena Obratsova an excerpt from "Aida" from a live concert titled,"The Three Sopranos" and even though it was late in her career she sang beautifully ;it's a pity she never had the opportunity to record that role,"Lady Macbeth" and "Minnie" from "La Fanciulla del West",all wonderful roles for the Supreme singing actress that she was.

Well, her Lady Macbeth survives in live recording. Anyway I share your enthusiasm for her.

Yes,I agree with you Mark;I do have her live recording from "Covent Garden" however for me the best illustration of just how much a riveting "Lady Macbeth" she would have been on record is from a live broadcast of a concert at "Radio City Music Hall" where she "lived" the role when singing the "sleepwalking aria";She is mesmerising and She nails the very difficult high note (sorry,I don't read music) plum in the centre, and of course She brings the house down.I loved her bravery as sometimes her high notes at that stage of her career could go slightly awry ,and she was singing "live" to millions where had She missed the note then that's what most people would have remembered;Miss Scotto was a definite trapeze artiste!I think that James Levine was conducting.
      Happy "Thanksgiving" from Australia!

@rodneydixon1259 she came to many of those larger roles later in her career and unfortunately the quality of her voice didn't match her mastery of interpretation at that time

Seguro que estés de 1963?,porque e esa época la Scotto era lírica ligera y está no era su voz, cuando abordo el repertorio lírico spinto está si era su voz

In my opinion, Scotto was always a full lyric that shouldn't have sung all the coloratura soprano repertoire she sang. Adina and Norina should have been it. The same mistake was taken by Netrebko. They should have both stuck with full lyric roles like Mimi, Desdemona, Butterfly, Marguerite, Juliet, and Micaela. Slowly building the lyric to spinto roles. I believe the coloratura repertoire stretched the voice too much.
