    I try to use the Marketplace. I don't care if the updates are faster (because I've never bought something broken) and it's often cheaper. If the devs don't want you to buy thru the Market, they shouldn't sell there. Plus it supports MS which supports the game and keeps the huge free updates rolling.

  • @OneMor3Win
    @OneMor3Win 2 года назад +100

    If you support asobo and msfs, and want to receive continuous world updates, various free DLC.. I’d recommend sticking to the marketplace. That continuous stream of steady revenue is looked into extensively and helps justify more quality dev time back into the sim itself.
    And the reason you want those delayed updates, is because the MSFS devs are running their own QA testing and code reviews of the work to ensure it doesn’t do anything unexpected or harmful to the performance of the sim.. with the amount of reviews needed weekly, the delay is standard.

      It still shouldn't take six to eight freaking weeks from the time the update comes out' And why would a developer sabotage their own work with malware? Two weeks MAX.

    • @OneMor3Win
      @OneMor3Win 2 года назад +4

      @@mason19548 Development follows process, it doesn’t work well with randomness. There’ll be time set dedicated to review, and that probably actually is a standard 2 weeks for larger submissions tbh. And that time will not fluctuate. The catch though is there will be a limit to how many submissions can be reviewed per week in accordance with this established process, and so a backlog of submissions is naturally created.
      And no they won’t even spend a full 2 weeks on any one submission, but submissions/updates will be planned to be bundled together in groups for specific DLC release days.
      Keep in mind updates will require the same amount of attention and review as a new submission, but will still likely be favored in the pipeline.
      That backlog is obviously kept at a reasonable size that the devs are comfortable with maintaining. Asking them to decrease that to a constant 2 week window would mean adding more devs/QA, the daily revenue seen probably isn’t enough to justify increased man power.
      Even with submissions being constantly instantly revised and approved, because of the randomness in which updates are likely submitted in all times of the week, this will definitely add an extra week starting the Monday following the submission (3 weeks total) you need to add time for production to organize the submission/updates into the existing review pipeline for the following week. You don’t just jump onto something the moment it’s received 😂.
      Also, submissions would need approving the week prior to them even being released, probably by that Friday, so this would add an extra week. The 3-4 days during the following week building up to the Marketplace update would require separate build tests and extensive checks for their DLC system. (4 weeks total now)
      Naturally some weeks will have an unforeseen increase in submissions more than others, or there will also be holidays/time off, so there will always be a growing backlog despite the absolute best efforts to keep that down, so naturally that means the minimum expectation should be 5 weeks… depending on the amount of submissions, this will grow.

    If a developer has broken trust - looking at you FSG and your malware - then I will only buy their planes through the Marketplace. The reason is - that delay in the updates - that's Microsoft picking through your code and making sure you're not doing anything untoward, amongst other things.

    Every store has cuts, I'm 100% sure that SimMarket, Aerosoft, iniBuild store, or others take cuts too. No way they operate without any cuts. I'm sure JustFlight stores have cuts for third party developers selling their products there. This is really moot point unless the developer has their own store and payment processor. Even then the banks will take their cuts, that's just how economic work.
    Edit: also don't forget the government takes their cuts via taxes.

      I have had a similar experience in Canada...not to the same extent, but as the Canadian dollar fell against certain important currencies, I found the Marketplace insulated me from wild price fluctuations over many years. I also avoided having to pay currency exchange fees (i.e. the fee charged for making the currency exchange, not the exchange rate difference itself) on my VISA as Microsoft Canada processed the transaction. For UK2000's airports I always got the biggest discounts...and they weren't the only ones like that. Christmas sales in 2023 saw far bigger discounts on the Marketplace for Orbx airports than on the Orbx site itself. All in all, this guy's video has some blinkered advice.

The F16 by SC Dev., the F15 by DC Dev., the F22A by Top Mach Studios, as well as IdiaFoxtEcho all their modules purchased outside of the Market Place has the option to go into Weight and Payload before the start of a flight and adjust the weight on the Wings by 200lb, and voila, you got missiles on your jet looking really cool. Now of course they don't work, they're nonfunctional. MSFS is about the Sceneries, even still when study level modules are lagging or falling short in some form or other, you still got the look.

      Looking holistically at the flight sim industry over the years, it's clear a healthy ecosystem is best for all involved, including Microsoft. It's developers that drive interest because they bring the add-ons that Microsoft simply wont/cant do on their own. Look no further than the PMDG 737 and Fenix A320 for exhibits A and B of that.

    Marketplace or Steam is where I get my stuff the only time I mod is to install liveries in MSFS 2022 or in FSX. This is Microsoft Corp we are dealing with they don't like third parties messing with their code if you want planes get them off of Steam, get them off of Marketplace, or buy them from the developer if you have a credit card don't buy third party software Microsoft Corp won't like it and you can infect your game with bugs. Get your updates from the marketplace and your DLC from Steam or a developer don't buy third parties or mods they will mess up your game and the only time you get a mod is if it a livery of a default aircraft. Project Opensky is no longer around and Rus-sim is not around anymore either. Microsoft Corp does not like to be hacked so play it safe get your DLC and updates from a trusted source and stay away from third party mods unless you are doing a repaint.

    No perfect solution IMO. I have items both in and out of MP but prefer MP. I hate managing 12 different third party solutions that all want their bloatware panels installed etc... I also hate managing and juggling all these addons. PITA IMO. On top of this, I trust MS to manage my purchases in the future over some store thats popped up. Lastly, I actually happen to fall in the category of PC/XBOX user. I've flown on PC since the very first simulators. I didn't think I'd ever play MSFS on xbox, but since it was part of my xbox pass i downloaded it and tried it out. It could never replace my sim experience on PC in VR obviously, but when I'm laying in bed and just relaxing at night and not in the mood to boot up my sim rig, I enjoy a bit of flying around in xbox. Nothing serious, just some site seeing. Its nice that it adds the hours to my logbook and has the availble aftermarket aircraft when I do so. Personally, the biggest reason I prefer marketplace after 35 years of simming is just ease of management. I'm busy. When I want to fly, I don't want to mess around with third party updates before doing so. Spent way too many years doing that. MS with all its problems was a breath of fresh air for me and I regret the few Items I currently own that are outside that marketplace right now. That being said, your points are all valid and would be more of a concern to me whan I was younger and had more time to focus on simming. Nice vid. Just my 2 cents.

    The MS Marketplace is nice and easy, but I do agree there are other options. I do like having purchases via the one interface. I must admit to now having an extensive collection of freeware add-ons (so many beautiful aircraft and scenery etc.), and I find the Community folder much easier to manage than FSX was! I usually change the folder name by adding a prefix; example "SA-" (South Australia) or "Idah-" (Idaho) so I can easily relocate to a "holding" folder on a separate drive to keep track of add-ins and keep my main drive with plenty of space!

If I knew MS takes 30% to 50%, I would I stopped buying add on from marketplace, that’s just stealing the hard working developers.thanks for sharing this

    Fenix aren’t on the market place, they have a good value aircraft, and the honest user doesn’t have to jump thru hoops…oh and I don’t believe it has yet been pirated. Now how much whatever server side stuff they are using costs may or may not be more than the 30%

      @@hochmaniac well… since I am a A330 Pilot, whatever you do, is only a game.
      And beside the add-ons, comparing the two is exactly the same. So costs matter.
      No need for that serious PC investment… just fulling your self.

    ..In my opinion, the most important reason to not buy in the Marketplace is to not have to re-purchase the software should you decide to purchase the game outright coming from Gamepass Version and or, switch to Steam version of the game.

    @Hochmania, Thanks for putting out this information. Marketplace is a disaster. I had to uninstall the "Garmin G1000 NXI", because it caused the PFD panels, to go dark, within minutes of getting ready to take-off, also the "Amphibious Ultralight Flying Raft" and the Mustang P-51, among other Marketplace planes WILL NOT achieve take-off speed, that to me is the biggest problem

    The reason why i support marketplace is because I am tired of creating new accounts and installing new stupid installers for every little aiport I get. I dont want to have 10 installers, and 10 websites spamming my inbox, I want everything at one place. And I couldnt care less if MS or the developer gets my money, shits expensive anyway

    Yup! Good points, I agree. And half the time the Marketplace is broken. Last sale, it wouldn’t let me purchase anything from that sale for over a week (kept waiting and timed out-sale over). No more available airport addons showing on their map. Updates way too slow (learn from Amazon how to deliver) lol!

    Yes you have to wait a bit longer for an update but does that really matter? You have everything all in one place, instead of scattered all over. I don’t mind Microsoft getting a cut, if you want updates, new games like 2024, it has to be profitable. Video game creators have been slashing jobs, I want MSFS to do well, it will be better for all of us in the long run.
