Bro a female was voicing ash for a while and no one cared, it sounded good and memorable and proves that gender doesn’t matter what character is attached
Bart Simpson too, honestly at this point if we banned anyone who would use any -ism or feminism buzzwords (just like how the opposite side is being heavily censored) those people would actually go out and touch grass for once
Yamato isn't trans Yamato uses bokkuko. Bokkuko is a term describing a female character who uses masculine pronouns but is still a woman. Primarily for tomboys, which is effectively what Yamato is. Yamato is a "Man" simply because she wants to be Oden. Oden used male pronouns, so she will too. That's more identity theft than it is anything else
I'm not well versed in Japanese but even I could take the time to see that Yamato is not trans, she simply wants to be like Oden and in doing so she uses Bokkuko as a way of doing so.
Yeah and there are women who use ore as well to emphasize an aggressive tone or appear more masculine. Same thing with men who use atashi - doesn't mean they are trans, they are just very feminine or probably gay.
Why isn't Google Translate voicing every single Robot in I.Robot? That's so damn stupid, it's disgusting. I'm pretty sure a Pedophile made that movie for his straight friends. The pronoun thing is beyond ridiculous, I'm a straight guy who has a feminine voice over the phone, I constantly get called "Ma'am" but I don't give a crap, my pronouns don't mean jack, as long as people are respectful I don't care what they call me.. I'm there to do a job and, what does it matter what I'm called? I get called miss and dude, I don't mind either because in all honesty it doesn't matter

It's kind of annoying, but I don't say anything about it; something so small isn't worth the effort and confrontation, especially when it's just someone on the phone.
well good for you. but for us where we AREN'T cis being misgendered can be VERY disrespectful. Once, when its an acicdent, is fine but knowing what gender we are and CONSISTANTLY misgendering us and refusing to give us the modcum of respect to jsut call us by what we'd like to be called is RUDE. The Pokemon kid didn't even laugh at the question, he made a very small nervous chuckle in the middle of saying his pronouns cuz all attention was on him. Basically the judge got offended thinking the kid's stage fright was a personal attack and got him kicked out.
The fact an "adult" felt threatened by a child says more. The Judge should have suspended. If you feel threatened by a child over innocuous reasons, you have no right to be in a position like that. They shouldn't even be trusted with the fry cook at McDonalds.
@@strategicperson95 100%. The other judge who delivered the news to the kid (because the original judge who is "non-binary" was too much of a pussy to face the kid with this) told him "we know you didn't intend it but your actions offended them so we have to do this" (paraphrasing).
So the line's not far from getting suspended because you said your pronouns 'wrong'. Imagine how terrifying that situation would be if you were actually unconfident in your gender identity.
The way I heard it, it wasn't a suspension. It was an immediate disqualification, no reimbursement, and then banned from the venue and I believe that regional competition in perpetuity. An "adult" did this to a kid because of a laugh. F*er themselves should be banned from ever being a representative or judge for anything FOREVER more, and they should rescind the ban on the kid.
These Freaks aren't even Anime fans, they hated it because Japan isn't integrated into their Politics and its Language Barriers. Keep in mind that no matter what the Anime Characters looks, their ethnicity is entirely Asians including Dark-skinned ones which those kinds of Japanese are mostly tanned & yet they viewed them as African descent which they only allowed to be EN dubbed by an Afro-American. Remember Killer-Bee from Naruto & who voiced him?
Meh it's Guilty Gear there's always a compromise like Testament being voiced by a trans women in the dub but a Japanese woman in the sub. Not saying that has to be the case all the time but there's people out there who do need the work
The kid laughed a bit because he was nervous and he stumbled over a word; he was not laughing at the question or the judge. They then proceeded to harass him to tears while he tried to explain himself, and then continued to harass him further, even when he verbally expressed the desire to end his own life. As you said, Hero Hei did in-depth coverage of this.
As well as it being a question that had nothing to do with the tournament. I'm pretty sure no one in that room besides the judge cared for wut the kids pronouns were. In fact now that i think about it how incredibly rude of that judge to have even asked for that irrelevant question!

Just a correction, the Kid that was disquilified from the tournament didn't "Laugh" as everyone advertised the news, this was over sensationalized, he gave a nervous giggle, and he didn't laugh at that idea, he was just nervous and the situation took him by surprise, and this simple nervous laugh, disquilified him even after constantly apologizing and explaning that he didn't mean it
The 20 year old loli is not at all a stretch or impossible. Definitely did a commission of that once upon a time. “Okay, is she gonna be the kind that doesn’t want to be seen and treated as a kid? Well, in the defense of the judge, the judge were a they/them (at least based on what an another video on the topic stated) and saying "he, him and uh" then laughing are can be seem like tho people who joking about pronouns negatively (which is more common than you think), and possibly the judge took it little personally too.

I like how she calls Bridget “the most visible trans woman in anime and video games” as though the character wasn’t THE femboy before the director arbitrarily decided to ignore the unfortunate implications in making Bridget trans.
she was not groome. her decision to be a girl has nothing to do with her parents. Besides, like it or not, this is called character development. no one complained about another character in the game being non-binary, even though in previous games they presented themself in a more "masculine" way.
@@laraprisma6381 A badly, rushed written "character development. Bridget being considered a girl was never an issue when he pretty much was ok with it in it's original backstory, hell, most, if not all characters though he was a girl, so clearly that was never a real issue, the actual dillema was that he wanted to be seen as a boy, in fact, he still tried to correct Goldlewis THREE times in the arcade endings that he was a boy, if Bridget really came to terms with how he was percieved or how he felt about it, there wouldn't have been a single reason to correct anyone, which makes Ky's whole speech pointless, in fact, had they just let Bridget being called a girl and him being fine with it, that would've enough to state that he was "transgender", rather than waiting a whole ass month until the developers confirmed it. Also, nobody cares about Testament, not even arc system, that's why they shifted their whole focus on bridget because is the "popular" character right now.
@@GravityRavenYT Testament isn't even "non-binary" to begin with. The word used to refer to him is "genderless", which is a fashion subculture in Japan that focuses on androgyny. If they were going to make him "non-binary", then the term used would've been "x-gender".
@@thepsychicsquid Unfortunately, that was his old iteration, by word of the creators, the curren iterations of both Bridget and Testament are "Transgender" and "non-binary", arc system admitted during the early showcases of GG Strive that they wanted to "appeal to a western audience", and clearly they wanna be seen as "progressive", so they picked two of their relatively popular characters whose backgrounds could fit those two labels and change them (in an incredibly sloppy, poorly written way), while also playing it safe since they were legacy characters, so they at least had a fanbase of veteran players that asked for those two for quite a while, clearly in hopes that at least one of them catched a new audience, which Bridget did. In fact, they are heavily capitalizing on him so much, that he already has three figures, a plushy and it's being put into a whole bunch of promotional material, but Giovanna, one of their newest character, didn't got the same treatment as Bridget, neither Goldlewis, hell even Testament was put on the sidelines, because they clearly aren't interested on this whole "progressive" idea, they just happened to strike gold with Bridget, and they aren't gonna let go anytime soon, but as this video shows, eventually the people they wanna appeal to will definitely throw them under the bus at the first sight of disagreement.
So what they're basically saying is when it comes to voice acting everybody needs to be "segregated into their proper places", is that it? Also, does anyone remember when Charlie Murphy(R.I.P.) and Samuel L. Jackson voiced two white guys on Boondocks or was that just me being crazy?
The reason why they're upset is BECAUSE those things don't matter. Voice acting is (in theory) a meritocratic profession unlike normal irl acting, and thus by its nature diversity is something that should occur naturally and organically from good hiring practice. The problem however is these people don't want equal and fair hiring practice and they don't want meritocracy. Instead they veiw "increase number of X representation" as an apriori ends that must be pursued at any expense. They don't want naturally occuring diversity, because equality is not "equitable." They believe that its the ends that justify the means, and if a means created to be fair, open, and equal does not create the ends that they personally envision, then they will demand it change because they view their ends as being morally superior to having good means. That is also ultimately the reason why they believe their hypocritical actions are justified, like praising blackwash while condemning whitewash. Because they don't believe in "Good Means" or "Consistent principles", they believe there is no truth but power and conquest, and that the only goods are those that support their desired ends. Theirs is a belief built around conquest of other spaces and areas in the name of their ends, and that any actions done in the proliferation of their ends is entirely justified.
what the fuck are you tlaking about??? we just want people to remmeber we exist and not hate us for existing man. and when we beleive someone is acknolwedging us by having a character like usin media that makes us happy cause it means someone recognises we exist. And lets talk about "fairness and equality". I'm fairly neautral on the voice acting thing but I do think if people want the role they should be given a fair chance to get it and, sometimes, they DON'T. the entertainment industry is FULL of bigotry so its no surprise when some think it may be happening because it DOES happen in some circles at least. We're just sick of people ignoring us.
For the Pokemon story, the kid just had a nervous laugh, he just wasn't ready to answer on the spot. Honestly, it's really stupid the judge got upset over something that's normal.
When someone asks for my pronouns, I stop what I am doing, stare at them, then slowly say (as if I am hurt) "Why are you trying to endanger me by forcing me to out myself?" Usually it shocks them and they back off.

The character from guilty gear Bridget was never a transgender even in the lore of guilty gear x2 it says as Rumor has it, Bridget is actually the son of a wealthy aristocrat raised as a girl. Skilled at attacking opponents with his trusty yo-yo from up close or far away, distance is no barrier to him. Bridget fights to show his parents that he's no mama's boy and can make it on his own.
It gest worse. In the previous instances you can have a good or bad end depending on wins. In the bad end Bridget accepts being a woman in a "well I am a failure... guess that means I am a woman" way. In the good one we got a proud declaration of manhood...
@Adrekiyo or what they can do is actually create a character that is trans instead of being lazy and take a character that already has a back story and create a new one
I tried telling people that Bridget's original backstory and his efforts to reclaim his male identity was an excellent example of a metaphor for trans people's struggle to claim their gender identity in spite of how society forces them into the wrong box but I ended up being called a transphobe and a TERF and blocked. 🤦🏻♀️ Guess people like poisonous representation now.

One hilarious example of double standards is a trans woman named Ellipsis the author of a webcomic called Goblins. She freaked out about Scarlett Johansson when she was going to play a trans character in a movie that got canceled because of the backlash of a woman playing a trans character. The rule she made was you must have an LGBTQ played by an LGBTQ. Here is the thing though, when she got a kickstarter to do a 5 minute animation, that she is hoping will translate into a series, she hired a straight actor to play a gay character, and she did it because he was a somewhat famous voice actor, because she KNOWS that you get more attention by having a celebrity act for your film, which was the exact reason why Scarlett was hired for that role, and why the project collapsed after she left it. The Nessa pic isn't even whitewashed, it's WASHED OUT! The artist deliberately chose to paint with light colours throughout the piece, so the skin was affected by this choice. Is her skin too light? For the Scott Pilgrim thing, if they're going for a full anime, I'm actually hoping they're gonna be aiming more towards the comic series the movie was originally inspired by. They cut out massive chunks of the story when adapting it and actually have said for years that doing it as a series would have been a better bet (there's just no way to do justice to a multi-issue story when trying to cram it all into under two hours). Would like to see a bit of the old art style come through but will have to wait and see how they choose to take that. Legit though, the comic has exactly the kind of fun and chaotic energy that would work in an anime, so I'm looking forward to it.
This same situation happens with Ada Wong VA. A va inclines to pull out whatever unrelated subject she pulls out of just for proving about the criticism. In fact, the criticism is rightfully justified. (She's sound so souless, that people noticeably heard it. boring, bleak, and tired. No wonder people starting to criticizie her performance)
Scott Pilgrim is originally a comic series and then later got adapted into a live-action movie. The comic was released in black and white and in a volume format like a manga. The movie gets to the point of things, while the comic had more details. Hopefully, when they make the cartoon, we'll get story parts that couldn't get into the movie format.
It's so ironic the whole Guilty Gear issue, ArcSyst pandered to the trans community by rebooting Bridget to make him a trans girl despite his previous background contradicting the newest information, but at the same time this very same community they are pandering to complains anyways demanding the character to be voiced by an actual trans woman. This companies must learn that this people won't ever be satisfied, you lend your hand to them and they will take the entire arm and still demand more, but not only that, but they also pushed away the original fans who have felt alienated for having a character they hyped so much about get modified to one that barely resembles the original
This explains a lot for me... I remember the original Bridget, hadn't heard about the reboot, and was wondering how anybody would brand somebody who clearly considers himself male "trans". Thank you.
I loved the story of Bridget as i encountered it before. I don't care about the franchise at all anymore. im sure at least some people who looked up to the way bridget was are even less happy.

@@DanaOtken I dove into some theory crafting which makes it look like arcsys was influenced by outside forces. arcsys' response that came out a month after bridget released they said bridget was always meant to be trans but not only does this go against lore but also the original purpose of the character cause bridget was meant to be a trap because of the rise of traps in media, also before Bridget's release not a single thing was ever mentioned that bridget was a girl before release but why it would've garnered a lot of attention from the pandering community, and now it's the post itself if bridget was meant to be trans this WHOLE TIME why is there so very little information throught the games, finally why was the post sent out a month later it would've been done within a week why'd it take a whole month, the reason is cause of some outside influence like localizers possibly or someone else forcing arcsys to make the change. It was never intended to go this route that's for sure bridget is still a male and a trap that will not change
"when I asked the studio personally about this, I was promptly deleted from their roster and blacklisted with no response." good, I see Arcsys is doing their job correctly.
Oh wow, of course this was targeted against Bridget. Honestly I also blame the old actress for Ramlethal for inviting this kind of sentiment. The sheer fact that she acted like she was blocked new people for her role despite people expecting the same voice actor for the character until they're done is so backwards.
Voice acting should be about the voice, that's why voice acting can be more diverse. One aspect of why animation is superior is because stuff like gender, race, etc, SHOULDN'T matter. Also, I like how most of the examples are Japanese games, where their VAs don't always voice their own gender lol but just another reason why I tend to stick Japanese, as they honestly don't care about this nonsense. The localisation industry in the US need to tone it down, a lot, they seem to think they are the actual creators of these products. I loved the movie, but I constantly see fans of the comics lamenting certain cut content, so it makes me curious.
For the Scott pilgrim thing. I’m just excited but there’s a lot more you can do with animation that you can’t do with live action. They might make it a closer to the original source material.
Rev chugged the futabu girl's fluids Also i find it so dumb how poison was said to be male and not even not swapped with a random male character which is why people claim poison is trans
Always what I have to say is whoever pulls the character off is the right choice, doesn't matter what race, gender, age, ect. Edit: saw that art this morning and thought it looked great
Yeah I could see how the futabu set could give you a throat infection. I'm genuinely amazed how much people can whine about absolutely nothing. Well its twitter so I shouldn't be.
Doesn’t come at any surprise that the moment the alphabet society changes Bridget’s lore, now they have to harass an actual woman for voicing someone that’s not even trans to begin with. Bridget is love. Bridget is trap Bridget is not trans. To hell with Twitter freaks.
So a few things about the Nessa art/artist. 1. I don't think they're Japanese. I'm no expert on Asian languages, but that looks a lot like Korean to me. Maybe I'm wrong, but typically Korean has more circles in it compared to the Japanese language. 2. Oh boy, we're back on the lighting vs white-washing thing again. Looking at this art, you can clearly see that everything here is brighter and more pastel, which of course would include Nessa's skin. I mean, just look at her hair. Instead of being black, it's more of a 50% gray, and the blue is much lighter. It's VERY clear that she's either in bright light, OR this artist has a more soft and pastel color preference. I mean come on, the Quagsire are lighter. Are we gonna say they white-washed Quagsire too? 3. You can VERY easily tell through color relativity that Nessa clearly is of a darker complexion. I don't think ANYBODY other than Twitter Freaks would look at this and think she's white. It's sad that artists can't use soft pastel colors anymore without getting called racists. Twitter was a fucking mistake.
Nessa is clearly on the 'lighter' side of dark skin. Most people of african/african descent that don't live in areas with unavoidable sunlight are lighter skinned than those that do live in areas like that. Nessa lives in Galar, which is just a 'ripoff' of the UK. And if you know anything about weather in the UK, its almost constantly dreary and miserable with rain.
Honestly, I wouldn't agree with the first part of that considering my cousins who are full african like me have lighter coloured skin than Nessa in the official pokemon art. Their skin is possibly brighter than Sokka and Katara and they're generally considered the "white" black skin tone, mistakeable for the darker shades of mixed race people. I wouldn't say she's on the lighter side I'd say she's closer to the middle honestly speaking. Nessa in that art is basically that shade of black but lighter still. Even so, I wouldn't call that white washing since she aint white. One could argue and say she's been made to look mixed race but I'd argue and say that it's really just a pastel palette considering how her black hair is also brighter to a strong degree, not whitewashing.
These people need to get help. Twitter needs a function that calls a suicide hotline automatically if your opinions are going into dangerous territory.
We have had 4 Americans voice act a hardcore American, a devoted emperor Japanese man, a drunk Russian, and a crazy German scientist fighting by against the undead. Need I say more?!
My hope with the Scott Pilgrim anime is that some of the stuff that was not explored in the movie (Lisa Miller, Mr. Chau, Scott's past, the Wilderness Sabbatical, etc etc) gets their time in the anime.
@@sarafontanini7051 Yeah, the whole last third of the story reminded me of the first version of Hellsing, where they just kinda made things up to quickly get a conclusion. Which, to be far, the comic wasn't finished at the time so I can't exactly blame them, but still.
That art obviously has the character under a bright light source you can clearly see that in the shade and contrast. I'm not much of an artist but even I know that that changes the color brightness. Amazing art though
It could also be color palletes they use too. Some color schemes on nessa art I have seen make her seem lighter in tone but still indicate her ethnicity.
Scott Pilgrim was a graphic novel first, and one of the few of its time that wasn't just superhero nonsense that you could buy on store shelves. An animated adaptation was always something that would've been cool since live action never did it justice. I don't understand why thats a bad thing if its done right honestly, I think its cool.

There's a bit of an issue with using Bridget as an example...Bridget was FORCED into behaving/accepting into being like a girl by societal norms and Bridget's true gender was kept a secret too prevent Bridget from being EXILED from his village and it's uncertain which ending is the CANON ending in Strive since it splits into two the one where you beat Ky without losing, which shows that Bridget IS strong enough or the one where you do lose where Bridget doesn't feel strong enough and believes what his village tells him

And as Rev said some characters in the list are not confirmed trans for example Yamato (if u investigate a bit more aboout it you will see that it’s way more confusing that u can imagine).
The original Swedish movie for "Ronia, the Robber's Daughter" came out in 1984 - and there was still a 2014 anime adaptation, 30 (!!!) years after that movie came out - sure, they didn't use the same people, but the thing is: You can do stuff in animation that doesn't translate as well in live-action. And Scott Pilgrim was always meant to be animated imo, so I think that's a good thing. Using the same people probably cut down casting costs, since you already know that they can play their parts.
To be fair, the comics and movie had a different plot and different stuff happened so might be doing that but it didn't occur to me they might be doing an anime version of the movie because I figured it was a series they were doing.

Also, Phil LaMaar voiced Samurai Jack, a Japanese man. Just thought I'd included that, lol

What they mean is you're suppose to include and accept only them, full stop.
God, I really hate Ellipsis.

The Nessa pic isn't even whitewashed, it's WASHED OUT! The artist deliberately chose to paint with light colours throughout the piece, so the skin was affected by this choice.
Is her skin too light? It's debatable, but it's easy to see how in this illustration her hair is a light ashy gray instead of a more navy-ish colour as seen in her key art. If her skin was made darker it wouldn't really match the lighting of the image; unless your intention is to make the skin tone a primary focus of the piece

Thank you.
Facts!
Hence why Bridget will remain as a male character.
I loved the story of Bridget as i encountered it before. I don't care about the franchise at all anymore. im sure at least some people who looked up to the way bridget was are even less happy.
Doesn't help that making him trans pretty much destroys his entire character arc.

"when I asked the studio personally about this, I was promptly deleted from their roster and blacklisted with no response."
good, I see Arcsys is doing their job correctly.
Not every anime should be made to a live action movie and vise versa
According to the Play Pokémon rules, you can't ask someone what their age, gender is. No one can ask that including judges
Acting is acting, you don't need always need to be exactly like the character in real life :T
Oh wow, of course this was targeted against Bridget. Honestly I also blame the old actress for Ramlethal for inviting this kind of sentiment. The sheer fact that she acted like she was blocked new people for her role despite people expecting the same voice actor for the character until they're done is so backwards.
The Ramlethal thing was so stupid. She isn't even black.
Also, yes, if the logic is white washing a character is bad, so is the reverse black washing.
And umm, Mama looks different than that picture....wait my bad, I'm looking at the fridge instead (*reference from the AI Somnium Files game).
11:22 The movie was based on a comic series and did leave stuff out which may be included in the anime version. The surprising part isnt that they are making an anime, but the fact they got the cast members from the movie to reprise all their rolls, especially given how much bank some of them pull in these days
Rev they are not just "taking the movie and making it an anime", they are taking the SOURCE MATERIAL; you know, the comic book the movie was BASED ON, and turning it into an anime-aesthetic animated show
They already showed what that could look like with an animated tie-in short that was made for the movie itself

I always saw Nessa as like South Asian like Indian or Pakistani or Nepali not African
@@clarehidalgo She could absolutely pass off as African with her skin tone though I do get what you mean about the Indian/Pakistani vibes
