I have an old pair of craftsman cutters like those. No contest when it comes to cutting stuff. I even use mine in the vegetable garden to prune plants.
Just a small correction, they aren't made by Knipex themselves, but by another German company called Lowë. It's an awesome tool anyway and the Lowë anvil pruners are considered by pruning experts the best in the world.
More than 30 years ago, I purchased Craftsman anvil "pruners", same design as yours. I didn't have the need for pruners, but did need clean cutting on many different materials. One of the best purchases I ever made.
Craftsman made high quality tools all those years ago and stood behind them with a free replacement guarantee (at least on some of them), but Craftsman quality sucks since manufacturing was moved to China when Sears closed and Lowe's bought it. Made in America meant something back then, and may still when you can find them, but Craftsman quality sucks now. Hold onto your Anvil Pruners as long as you can. They should still be good for your kid's kids.
Hey Dony, nice video. Quality doesn’t come cheap, however quality tools makes the job easier and quicker. Now 125 Canadian dollars may sound bit expensive for a pair of cutters but you run a business and make your living from there so you want the best quality possible as your customers demand quality and quick service so these tools are a must and they pay themselves in long run. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience and expertise. keep up the good work. All the best for 2024
I too have a pair of Craftsman cutters and I absolutely love them you can change the blade so when they get dull all you do is Just change the bladeThey are the best cutters I've had for cutting hoses and stuff with that you'll ever have
I made a living for 44yrs working with German made shears. Made my job easier and the quality of the steel allowed for a perfect edge to be put back on.
Very nice tool! 30 years ago I bought a Craftsman USA Handi-Cut tool 9-37201 that I have used on water hoses, fuel lines, heater hoses, ropes and even pruned small branches. I've replaced the blade several times and the anvil once but it has held up well.
Thank you for sharing this! I have a pair of Craftsman Handi-cut shears that are starting to get dull- These shears look to be a good replacement for them. Thanks!
A hundred and twenty five bucks!!!!!! Good lord! I use black blade Olfa knives. Perfect straight, clean cuts for dirt cheap. Getting dull? Snap off the section, brand new all over again, ready to go.
Agreed, very nice shear. Also, look at Löwe shears....same thing but with orange handles. I have have new Löwe shears with Knipex blades on them...same factory? For cutting hoses, fuellines and rope...nothing compares to them.
I have a similar pair and when I can't put my hand on it immediately I almost panic. I keep it with my garden tractor but use it for many other things other than snipping plants, hence they are often out of place. This pair has the name Wolf Gerate stamped on it. Is anyone familiar with this? BTW, I am an older woman with issues with dexterity in my hands so this cutter is my go to for anything I wish to chop in two. You made an excellent purchase Dony. I inherited mine from my mechanic husband some 15 years ago when he passed on, so they have many, many years of use racked up. I will take this opportunity to thank you, Dony, for being the mechanic I can go to since Matt isn't here to guide me.
As one gets older and works on equipment, There is less tolerance for tools that are substandard. And so Donnie makes an excellent point. That using high quality tools results in higher quality jobs that are done faster and more accurately. It also speeds productivity. And I often see it with tool quality; made in germany. Is it any wonder why the germans produce such high quality machine goods??? Just take a look at their tools. Thanks donnie.
@@donyboy73 It's the least I could do after all of the educating you have done with me regarding small engines. Merry christmas to you and your family donnie.
Thanks Donyboy. I’ve been looking for something like that. A lot of times you can’t get the fuel line off Tecumseh snowblower carbs and need to cut it off. Need something that can cut it easily and straight so you don’t ruin the hose.
It’s worth spending the money on quality tools as they’ll last a long time. Great for cutting fuel line and hoses. Need to try it on starter rope. Worth the investment Only $62 here in the states..SOLD!
Nice tool. All about the right tool for the job. 30 years ago I thought those side cutters would work for everything. Now, I hardly ever use them anymore....
Almost 40 years ago, I bought some off brand of anvil cutters like that. They look almost identical, but obviously cheaper. I like the fact that I can take the blade out and sharpen it separately. (And I have done so, twice now.) I spent a dollar~something back then to buy them. I have always used them in exactly the way you do. Only I also use them to cut small copper wire. And to cut nylon wire ties off, completely flush. One thing you missed... I can also make my own rubber washers from rubber hose, they slice so precisely.
These are a slick set of shears indeed! Thanks for bringing them to us. As a note, consider aviation snips if you don't already have a pair. They're designed to cut light sheet metal, and good ones work as well as your Knipex on non metallic items.
I’ve always used anvil pruners for my bushes. Never considered using them for anything else. I’ll give it a try but I won’t be spending $100 for them. Thanks!
Knipex does make high quality, precision tools! I have their Diagonal Cutters 78 91 125 with cut-wire catcher for small gauge wires because this part number is Hardened Steel (and it has the wire catcher). The set I had before, one of the diagonal cutter jaws broke off after a few years. That should not happen with these. The wire catcher is a clip-on, so it can be adjusted back if it gets moved. Yes, not cheap, but I price shopped and bought them from Chad's Tools online, if I remember correctly. Cheapest price I found and well worth the money! Knipex tools are highly recommended! Thanks, Don.
Quality is what you get when you pay for it. I've had them for quite a while, multi purpose tool for garden secateurs, then into the shop for cutting rope, plastic coated COPPER wire, and ideal for whipper snipper plastic cords too. Happy Xmas. ❤
I have noticed that Leon's Chainsaw Parts & Repair are using something similar to this when cutting fuel lines and rope. Sometimes you have to cut the fuel line at a sharp angle for to get them into the tank, and then you need a good tool.
The working width of the jaws opening from your video is about 1cm. Anything bigger and you would need to fully extend the handles making griping and cutting not as easy. That is a major issue I have with similar type cutters. The fulcrum point placement is the issue.
Definitely nice cutters. I won a pair of anvil cutters at a world ag show. They were for picking fruit and i have been using them for over 30 years. I also have a pair of anvil cutters for my larger rubber hose such as radiator hose on automobiles.
I prefer a WEN 250W soldering gun with a synthetic rope/line cutting blade that that melts and seals the line so that it doesn't fray out (I've been a sailor for 40+ years and am fussy about ropes, lines and pennants.) I do like Knipex tools. But that one is a little rich for my needs.
Nice tool to have in your shop that makes quality clean cuts and much easier than those angle pruners designed for wire. Cutting rope is not the easiest to cut as it bends in the cutter. I noticed that the Knipex has no spring to worry about. Snapon tools is known for providing quality tools. They usually have a replacement warranty if they get damaged. The price is close to my Felco 2 professional pruners made in Switzerland. I have been using my Felco 2 for 25 years now. You get what you pay for. With the amount of pruning I do, I am constantly cleaning them.
Hey Donyboy, would you ever consider doing a video reviewing/ recommending the vessel Japanese metric screwdrivers and how important they are when working on small engines ?
I find the anvil cutters work much better also. I have a pair,l of anvil tree lopping cutters (2.5’-3’ long) and they work so much better than the overlapping curved blade type. They never spread apart and the limbs get wedged between the blades. Cut smoother also and will be able to cut larger limbs with relative ease. Great video!
Great tool. I'm share your joy but that is a prohibitive price for something to cut cord. I expect regular garden shears will equal that performance. I suspect those other cutters would have also if they were new. Still, I enjoyed the video and am looking forward to the next one. P.S. I've been using vintage Wickes (maybe 80 years old) garden shears for years those functions.
Mine are Fiskars (spelling?) and look very much like yours. They were WAY cheaper, probably $20.00 US or less, but work great. I also keep utiity razor blades for cutting and trimming.
I just checked in US 61 dollars! I'd probably get a good pair of pruning shears if I ever did enough work to warrant spending money on them. I haven't needed them yet, 70 now.
Good tools are never cheap. It’s pretty much true you get what you pay for. As a person who works with his hands, your hands take a lot of abuse. Anything that can lessen it is money well spent
Oh, goodness, I hate to rain on your parade, but I use a simple, quality set of shop shears (heavy-duty scissors) to accomplish the same at a FRACTION of the cost.

That’s actually what this type of cutter was designed for. Those and the “rounded” blade ones. Garden tools. But hey, they work well for this. 🇨🇦👍🏼
I probably have the same ones. The anvil slides back and they turn into box cutters. They cut rope and tubing just like he showed. They're awesome.
