Hi friends! After posting this video, it dawned onto me that the Start and Menu buttons are on the left because it would be difficult to push it while in FPS mode. Also, I think that It still could be posted at a higher point on the right controller. It just feels awkward to me with all of it being on the left. What do you guys think?

I've been wanting one of these so bad. But everything in my GUT is telling me to wait. It just feels like one of those devices that tries to promise too much but ends up sacrificing the most important thing, practicality. Which is probably why everyone is still recommending the steam deck oled still. Best battery life, reasonable power and most importantly a functional OS. If only Windows had a good mobile OS. I'd pick this up today.

The competition for portable PCs is really heating up. Kinda makes me think Nintendo’s next console will still be Switch-like but will have to do something really unique in order to stand out. I know they are not direct competitors but handheld gaming in general seems to be on the rise.

I think you might underestimate the versatility of this device as you mostly focused on the handheld gaming aspect. But this device can be a pretty cool "all-in-one" device for someone who wants to have something that can be used in many different ways : 1) as a mini pc for the office / travel since it has a nice sturdy stand included and it runs with windows 11 and can connected to a second office screen with hdmi , 2) as a tablet with android capabilities, 3) as a gaming handheld with cloudgaming or just retro gaming, 4) as a console that can be connected to TV for couch gaming with the detachable controls (and maybe a third party will sell a device to connect them like with the switch. Now obviously if you have all of those things already in your house (a PC, a Tablet, a PS5, a Steamdeck or another handheld) then you wouldn't buy this clearly. BUT if you don't have all those things and you want an "all in one" version at a cool price, then this seems pretty cool and i can't think of another device that tries to do all this at once (are there any?). The other devices you mention like the steamdeck or the Asus can't do that.

This was actually a huge selling point for me in getting one. As a father now, I wanted something portable that could replace my aging Xbox one and get me into PC gaming. I didn't want a laptop but my current one is extremely outdated. Because of the kickstand and the removable controllers this went from purchasing a $750 toy that's only good for handheld gaming to something that with a couple accessories could be a PC handheld, a gaming console, a small psudo-laptop and a somewhat heavy tablet. The versatility made justifying the purchase really easy and that wouldn't have happened with any other PC handheld on the market right now.

@@dadou193 I’ll tell you my experience. When gaming and playing not demanding games like GTA V you don’t hear the fan. This said I love to play using headphones because it’s a better experience independently of the device you use. Then if you are going to play one of those games where you need power then maybe you can hear the fan but.. you are going to need to plug the machine so I just connect it to the tv and from the distance the experience is pretty awesome. In handheld mode I play other kind of games. About the ergonomics… I don’t think that even this big battery will let you play a game until you feel any pain in your hands at all. It’s very comfortable. For me coming from a switch.. this is gold.. even the speakers sound awesome

Yeah I would definitely say better for your use case. I have a steam deck and primarily play emulators and the steam deck lacks that power to do PS3 and Xbox 360 really well. There are ways to play them but you'll be limited compared to the legion go or the ally in terms of power. I have the legion go and I have been loving it so far I do not regret my purchase at all. I think people are largely over exaggerating the "problems " and in the real world it's not that bad.

The battery lasts just as long as everything else it is in competition with. Actually it lasts s good time longer than a ROG Ally And as long as the new oled deck. Don’t get me wrong they all have shit battery if you’re going full tilt but the ago isn’t worse.

@@Tiralful i dont have a legion go but i do have a rog ally and i have a steam deck and oled deck on the way... on what planet is the legion go battery going to keep up with the deck oled dude... thats just not going to happen, it has the same size battery as an oled deck, a much bigger screen, higher resolution, bigger cooling fan... these z1 extreme handhelds are just not efficient, they perform poorly at low wattage and suck back power like nobodies business at full tilt, you wont get 1 hour 30 mins out of the legion go at full tilt while an oled deck will get well over 2 hours at full tilt just because it simply wont even get near the same wattage.
the legion go and rog ally perform extremely similar in battery life and just for reference i did a test myself yesterday, played dead cells on my ally at 7w, 50 percent brightness, 50 percent volume and i managed to get just about 4 hours out of it... thats a best case scenario, the legion go would do very very well to match that with a bigger display requiring a bigger backlight even with a very slightly bigger battery. For comparison the steam deck oled can reportedly get just over 10 hours in the same game and situation.... its not even close.
You are right they all have shit battery at full tilt, thats just the reality but even not at full tilt and in the best case scenario these things are nowhere near steam deck oled... on my OG deck the best i managed was around 7 hours playing huntdown... another easy game ofcourse but again there is almost no chance ally or legion go is getting there.

I'm pretty happy to see that most of these issues are software related, and lenovo being the large company they are will certainly fix them. The Ally had a pretty rocky launch, and the Go has had a smoother one than that. I'll probably pick one up once a few more updates come, but even since launch I've heard the experience is drastically improved.

True! I feel like every handheld PC has had issues on launch, but have steadily gotten better with time. The most recent ROG Ally software update is exciting! And the Legion Go has been improving with time as well.

Not sure about other people, but a lot of the problems that I had with it would be fixed with the release of other versions of those "True Strike" controllers.
As someone else said in the comments, the chances are slim that they'll do that since the user base might end up being small. Might as well look ahead, IMO.

The best decision Lenovo could do would be to make the detachable controllers their calling card in the PC handheld market going forward. If a legion go 2 would come out a few years down the road with the exact same controller mechanism it would unlock a ton of potential for 3rd party support.

i dont know why people say the rog ally is quiet... it may have been on release but for a long ass time now my ally has been noisy as hell... under any kind of load the fans (fan 1 at least) automatically goes to 70 percent because thats Asus's way of saving your SD card slot from frying... so no the ally is not quiet, unless you play in 10w mode ofcourse.
