People became wary when there's bad history when even done by a small group. It's their preventive mechanism. There have been African coming here on student visa, but not attending the college, some are involved in illegal activities. The common complaints with African tenants is, the noise, loud music, and worse, harassing the locals, especially the women. So the best thing you can do is set a good example and reverse the perception.

That's not our job to set example, just do you, and also judge each individual, when white people go to Thailand,I don't see everyone saying they are child molesters????????, even though it's well known that most of the child molesters there travel from UK and America to do their dirty...........

Couple of years ago, Malaysia was hit by a small group of scammers from Nigeria, and it went viral nationwide, even covered in a documentary on national tv. You're a good guy Tade we all know that. But the scammer group really tarnished the image of Nigerian back then up until recently.

I’m sorry that you experienced such negativities in Malaysia. There are people who do not know how to treat other human beings humanely. Maybe due to previous many horrid stories, Malaysians become more cautious with Africans generally. So I guess it goes both ways. If the Africans who came to Malaysia previously follow the rules of the land and be respectful of the culture and peoples of Malaysia, you will be welcomed like other peoples from other countries.

All I see is that you are a very reasonable person. It was a rather unfortunate experience for you to meet a bus driver that totally ignore you at Putrajaya and house owners that refuse to rent their house to you simply because you are from Africa. Malaysians in general are not alien to foreigners let alone to dark skin people as about 7% of this country population are dark-skinned of Indian origin. So their behavior towards you are not rooted from color-bias but rather, I believe from streotyping due to past experience. It all began when Malaysia started to open up its tertiary education to international students about three decades ago, there were many applicants from Nigeria and some other African countries. At first everything went nicely and orderly, but after several years some cunning prospectors started to abuse the system, they apllied for students visas but upon coming here never appear at their designated institutions, they eventually became illegal immigrants. To make things worse, some of these illegals also involved themselves in illegal drug traficking and many other unlawful or untoward activities that pissed the Malaysians. Although the incidents were not widespread but you know, mouth to mouth exchange of stories plus some exeggeration spread faster and hence the stigmatised streotype againts Africans. BTW, for some reasons or somehow, Africans tend to live in small colonies and indulge in partylike activities such as smoking shisha, I dont know about smoking weed, drinking and loud music into late night much to dismay their neighbors. Early this month (May 2024) an ex footballer from Nigeria was caught by the police for overstaying his work permit while he was partying at such colony.

It's not just Africans who are discriminated against in Malaysia, so are Americans who are classified as black. I was hired as a teacher by email, but as soon as the recruiter received my photo, she suddenly said the position no longer existed. Two weeks later, I visited their website and the same teaching position was there. More than likely they ended up hiring a caucasoid or an asian. Asia is a very racist place just like Europe and the Americas and non-black African nations, like Morocco and Israel.

To me, since 15 years ago African who came to Malaysia did show negative things to local other than dealings business with drugs ( worst things by using female Malaysian as their middlemen! ) Past time, they prefer did opened gathering with drinking alcohol and drunk. Once drunk, they started disturbed local people around them. This always happened at early night to midnight time!!!
But, now since few years ago, I hear no more same cases happened by African. I believe most African now are positive good to be good welcomed here. Only some from past time had done unacceptable things without care local way of life. You also looking good to me. Keep in positive as Malaysian no problem if other foreign people do no problem surrounds. 🤝💪👍👍👍

Hi Mr. Tade, welcome to Malaysia. Being black is not a problem to Malaysians but we are just being precautious & making sure that no problem will occur in the future..
A few years bck( this is from my own experience in subang jaya- sunway pyramid), an african distributed drugs to other africans openly at night (outside of Sunway Pyramid shopping mall) n coincidently I was getting out from the parking lot & he stared at me as warning not to tell the police.
Another incident in Court 9, USJ subang jaya, a group of africans fought until they bled. The funny part was, the biggest police station in Selangor was just accross the street n they did not care at all.
Other incidents, africans love to party till daylight n they are very loud.
The conclusion is, Malaysians hv no problem with skin colour but mostly are scared of africans. You have to gain their trust before they can trust african again.
But I also knew some good
nigerians who work as lecturers in Malaysia & they are doing just fine.

I guess what U said about how hard it is to find an apartment is true. Most apartment owners I know avoid renting their units to Africans. It is however not because of the skin colour but rather due to cultural differences. There are many incidents involving Africans having wild parties at pools in apartment complexes until wee hours in the morning, making loud noises etc. Some are even reported caught peeing or taking a dump in the pool while drunk. That creates -ve perception. I know generalisation is bad etc...but that's just how it is. Many still willing to take African tenants after doing some background checks etc. They usually are more willing to rent to those with families. For African singles it can be tricky.

Malaysia is probably in the list of the most racist places I have been to. It really seemed like people look down on folks based on their race while bending over backward when they see someone from the western world. Every race has idiots who commit crime, that does not mean that the entire race should be generalised. Thats like me saying Malaysians should not come to the Netherlands (my country) because they are all terrorsts because one of them is a terrorist.

      @marmedello 20 дней назад

@@frommuddywatersthat’s not necessarily racist though. It’s believing sterotypes. That doesn’t mean they think black people are beneath them. Many people in the USA will do racist things towards black people as well that I personally witnessed/experienced or heard from my brothers or fathers. Harassment from police, stereotypes, racist comments, locking doors while driving in “black neighborhoods” or by a black person, trouble at airports, bullying, strangers going across the street when walking near to avoid being close. Being pulled over by cops for no reason just to check if they have drugs, even if you’re the passenger, a biker, a pedestrian, or a child walking

U seems to be a nice guy. Since u are on this topic, why not do a little bit of research why in Msia there is a difference between black american or british to black africans. Then perhaps u will understand us better. Its not about being black cos there are all kinds of colors here. About people not talking freely, i think we malaysians are reserve cos we respect privacy. But if u ask , i'm sure most will respond. About the bus driver, maybe he had accountered a bad experience from another black african . Lets say black africans leave a bad mark for Msians. So do your research. U are one of the polite ones and rational thinking. Hope u enjoy Malaysia with all the negatives u find in it. No where is perfect in this world.

African cuture is considered rough and loud.So get to know some mysians to let them know that you are ok.We only know fr medias.American black culture potrayed in medias doesnt appeal and frighten most malaysians .Learn and understand our culture and you should adapt the culture then you will be all right.See how people of different races interact. Each race has their own culture and they respect other cultures.Mutual respect is very important in a multiracial country. The Malay(muslim) ,Chinese, and Indian community .We live in peace and harmony since birth.

Some one should make a video about being Asian in Africa. How they treat people of Asian origin in country like Nigeria.
However sadly, even being black in Africa not necessarily will be a guarantee that you will be treated kindly. There are many cases of black killing black in Africa. Not to mention the gangs culture in the US, UK etc. African people must stop playing victims wherever they go. Respect the local cultures and make sure you have knowledge to contribute then you will be alright

If you ask any Malaysian specifically Malay, they will say "No Malaysia is not racist" but yet we have educational institutions like UiTM that literally prevents Malaysians of certain ethnic backgrounds from enrolling. Racism is systemic and entrenched in every government linked organizations in Malaysia. So, it is only natural for them to extend the racism toward people of other ethnic origins specifically darker skinned people.
