I will say 3 of those 100s are “flying 100s” since he doesn’t have to accelerate. But still crazy. But yeah flying hundreds always are fast splits hence why for the 4x100 ull see splits that are 9 seconds low
That is why in the 400 meter training you have to run a 500 and a 600 and also train 300 meters so that the 400 is not so heavy. My best 400 in competition is 49.57
If anybody understands track, that bend was where he could have easily lost momentum to being placed 3rd or 4th but he maintained his speed. He set an impossible world record❤

Imo its harder to run on treadmill. Is yours properly tuned? I remember I would set my 2 mile pace at 10mph, said my 1st mile split was 7:34?? I knew that was horribly wrong beacuse I can usually go sub 7 with little struggle.

Michael Johnson said the same thing when he broke the record back in 1999! I think this record will be busted again in about 20-25 years. Which is a not a long time when compared to the duration of the record. The longest world record holder for the 400 meter race is Lee Evans and it lasted 19 years, 9 months and 30 days! Michael Johnson's record lasted 16 years, 11 months and 19 days. Therefore, it is safe to say that this record by the great Wayde van Niekerk will most likely last 20-25 years the most! With advances in science, biometrics, nutrition, gear, tracks, systems, training, and aerodynamics; this record will go down in 20-25 years or less!
If you can run flat out, as they did in this race, lane 8 is the fastest lane of a 400m race because it is the straightest. That's why the fastest time ever, from lane 8, is 43.03 while the fastest time ever, from lane 1, is 44.25 (coincidentally set in this same race). That lane 1 "fastest" time is the slowest of any lane. Of course, if you need to see a runner in front of you to motivate you, it's the worst lane. All runners run 400m no matter what lane they're in.
@@lambylandrin7203 I think you miss the point. The straighter the run, the faster you can run it. That's why, before track went metric, the 200 yards straight record was faster than the 200 yards with a curve. It's the same with the 400m.
Incredible running by Wayde. But see how far Hudson-Smith has come since then. From last in this race, he nearly took gold in Paris. Keep moving forward, folks!
I had no clue Matthew Hudson-smith was in this!?! He was 21 years old at the time, literally a young adult 😂 look at him now, silver medalist with a time of 43.44.

Would love to know the advantage you get from running in lane 8 and having a less tight bend. This record has an unfair advantage as he shouldn't have been in lane 8 and the lesser bend gave him the advantage needed to set a record that will be hard to break from the middle lanes.
Irl track athlete here and i main 400m because lane 8 is the farthest it also has the longest curve which is tiring enough and no it doesn't give you a headstart or an advantage or anything imagine the track oval but a machinery is placed on every lane and those machines are set on a fixed speed like for example 10mph for all of them and if you get the lane 8 into the line of lane 1 the lane 8 would always be the very last because the more inner you are the shorter your run so that's why lane 1 is on the very last on the starting point and lane 8 is like on the very start to make up for the wide curves and longer distance than the lane 1 has so that's why it doesn't give any sort of advantage to runners (Speaking from experience as i have ran on all of the lanes nothing too much changed on my time cause it's all the same length)

Comparing the 2nd fast records between lane 1 vs 8 makes more sense, given he happened to run and break record in lane 8
But you didn't take into account that the best runners don't run on lane 1, so they can't improve the record of that lane that much
