Amazing! Love all your vídeos, the spectacular places, the music, the explanations, everything is perfect. I went also to Gallipoli, but shame, I didn't visit that amazing church! By the way, those dishes, terra e mare, looks delicious, bon apetitto Amici!
Thank you Francisco, the dishes looked and tasted great too. Gallipoli was a very hidden place, not very fancy from the outside but had some hidden treasures. A very interesting place to visit.
hi guys! thanks again for the nice vídeo. amazing narrow streets. i could see sophia Loren in a Fiat 500 on one of those piazzas. on the way down to Sicily…. and by the way as a lisboeta thanks to remember about Lissabon, or Lisbon or Lisboa. lolol and ugs
The Way We Saw It great thanks. Looks like July and August should be avoided if possible. June and Sep seem to be good. Also not as hot. Though Sep did look a bit hot from some of the videos!!
Also, if you are really environmentally conscious, you would use buses or trains to get from Lecce to Gallipoli. We used a bus and rented a scooter to go from Lecce to Gallipoli. Watch our video in Puglia on our channel.
That is a good idea, we hope you enjoyed your bus ride. If you look at the whole of the videos, you will see that we travelled quite extensively in the area also to places that cannot be reached by bus or train. We therefore rented a car. Thank you for watching.
The name Ionian comes from the Greek language Ἰόνιον (πέλαγος). Its etymology is unknown. Ancient Greek writers, especially Aeschylus, linked it to the myth of Io. In Ancient Greek the adjective Ionios (Ἰόνιος) was used as an epithet for the sea because Io swam across it. According to the Oxford Classical Dictionary, the name may derive from Ionians (one of the four major Greek tribes) who sailed to the West. There were also narratives about other eponymic legendary figures; according to one version, Ionius was a son of Adrias (eponymic for the Adriatic Sea); according to another, Ionius was a son of Dyrrhachus. When Dyrrhachus was attacked by his own brothers, Heracles, who was passing through the area, came to his aid, but in the fight the hero killed his ally's son by mistake. The body was cast into the water, and thereafter was called the Ionian Sea.
Thank you for the details, that's actually what we wanted to say in the video, the origin of the name is unsure. But you clearly pointed this out. Thank you for watching.

Gallipoli (Gallia=which means "Country of the Fowls" and the inhabitants are called Galli) + poli=city in Greek
Thank you for watching and for the insight
it comes from Kale=beatiful
The name of the town comes from the Greek name ' Kalé Polis', that means ' The Beautiful City'.
Then the name has been italianized later.
Kale polis- citta' bella
