Just did the same a day trip from Lecce to Gallipoli yesterday. A little over 1.5 hours each way. This train is a small regional and goes very slow. Highly recommend Gallipoli as a day trip.
The distance between Lecce and Gallipoli may be around 35 km as the crow flies. But trains ain't crows.... The railways follows a circuitous route and the distance is about 70km.
