    unrelated but that strap lug placement at 1:18 is ingenious! currently i have the Sony ZV1 and its pesky one strap lug is driving me nuts.

    Thanks for the updated review great to see an owners honest perspective, I'm in love with rangefinder style cameras and I like the stripped back focus on taking a photo manually and with intention compared to the somewhat lazy approach my mirrorless affords me, but as you say different tools for different situations and I feel like this was born for street/documentary which is what excites me, so in March I'll be joining the club... Thanks for the mention on the lens size, I hadn't realised that, but will probably bung a small 35mm on for street and then do a few years of solid overtime before I consider buying another!!

    Its a very niche product that is made for exactly that niche.

    I see a provoke t-shirt and I subscribe!

      Glad you like it! I made the shirt myself... I bought the facsimile editions of the three issues of the magazine from Nitesha and traced the logo off one of them. It's odd -- back in the day everybody made fun of those guys, but now we can see they were right about almost everything...

    Hello, I really liked the review of the Pixii camera, what were the lenses that did not work with the camera body?

    • @jlwilliams
      @jlwilliams  Год назад

      Any lens that is too large in diameter and/or too long will cut into the view through the rangefinder window, and lenses that are too "fat" near the base will make it hard to reach the lens release catch. (The designer has said this was semi-intentional to discourage use of lenses that the rangefinder cannot focus accurately!) I made an approximate chart to show the dimensions that are likely to cause problems; you can download a PDF file of it here: ranger9.net/pixiifun/pixii_friendly.pdf

    Hi, so does the new shutter no longer feature a true global shutter as the old one? Because you shouldn't have this banding problem with a true global shutter

      Yes, only the first model (the 12-megapixel version, model number A1112) had the sensor made for industrial machine vision and with the global shutter. The current 26-megapixel sensor is better in every other way, though...

    No flash is wild tho! I don't use flash too often, I love long exposures but this doesn't seem like a main camera since you cant use this in studio with a strobe. I guess this was designed for the intent of straight street photography. Super interested in this camera and seeing how it develops, not sure if this is a purchase I want to commit to yet.

      Actually, I did a little experiment (darken the room, open the shutter at 1 sec, and trigger the flash manually) and discovered that it takes very nice pictures with flash... there's just no way to synchronize the flash to the shutter, since the shutter is all-electronic! I have heard that they might try to add some form of flash synchronization eventually, maybe via Bluetooth, but I think it's a low-priority project, so if flash is important to you, this is not the right camera for you!
