Misuzulu is a weak king and not the greatest successor to Zwelethini but he is the rightful king. It’s a clash of cultures, the first wife is appealing to western marriage laws saying that she married him legally in community of property and that every other subsequent customary marriage was invalid. Misuzulus mother (3rd wife) was the daughter of the King of the Swati, her lobola was paid by all the chiefs under Zwelethini representing the Zulu nation to the Swati kingdom meaning her son was always going to be the rightful king. Then there was also Simakade who was king Zwelethinis first born child who was born out of wedlock like Shaka Zulu, he is not the rightful heir because he was not born from the queen and being first born doesn’t make you an heir in Zulu culture. The only customary arguement he has was that he was adopted customarily by the queen Misuzulus mother to remove the stigma around him being a bastard child.
