When the whole band plays the last part like at 4:12 when the saxs play is just amazing and it makes me kinda sad and emotional just thinking about my band members
Loved playing this song for my last concert in middle school. I had a blast in band. This song is so cool, especially at the part where the flutes (yay!) had their solo after the slow part.
played this at all district :) I love how you can feel the composer's emotion through the slow and then moving sections! It almost made me cry when I first heard it.. go alto sax!!!
heres the deal, my brother and sister were playing this one year in the high school band, and i loved it, then the band teacher got fired...now were stuck with one of the worst band directors i've ever known, he thinks we cant play music at our level and he thinks we cant take accept a challenge. For that, no one i know likes him and his insignificant music he gives us.
played this in 6th grade as part of the 8th grade band, i'm in 8th grade now and i wish my band was good enough to pull something like this off. im 1st chair clarinet with no competition and i sit next to a good friend, happily, but when the band plays anything, its just a wall of sound. i loved this song and i hope in high school, we'll get to play stuff like this or harder
I know what that feels like, but when I went into the high school band, most of the people who don't care about band don't take it as a course, which makes the band smaller, but overall better. It gets a lot better (at least it did for me ;) Best of luck!
The 9th honors played this at the 09' SFA Band Camp. It is one of my favorite band peices, and yes the alto's do have the melody for a lot of the song.
i played this at our district band weekend on tuba. it was awesome! i think the low brass had a cool part when they came in at the beginning. I HAD FUN ON THIS ONE. OH and i got david hosinger's autograph!
I'm first chair flute and my band did this song. I had all the flute solos you hear in this version. It was hard, but dang, was it fun. We totally mastered it as well
wowzer my band is gunna play this in Wisconsin dells on April 22nd @ the kalihari it's gunna b great... Barry saxaphone rules!!!!! along with the low brass section... but that's a different story... lolz
We're playing this for Senior band at my school. When we first got the sheet music, I wasn't too impressed...and then we played it. Being a Tenor Sax, when we started playing 0:39 and onward, I was blown away. The percussion, how everything blended together. It was truly magnificent. Being a concert band geek, or a band geek in general is a wonderful thing.
3:22 was a section of the song that I played in marching band for our saint Patrick’s day parade once. Our band director thought it sounded like a good part to play on its own and we even came up with something of a jig to go with it that was fun to do while playing
We're playing this song in my band and I love it! In our band it sounds bad though because wthe only bass section we have is 2 Bari Saxes, 2 Bass Clarinets, and 1 Trombone. I play the Baritone sax and you can hardly hear the bass line. Great recording and band by the way
our 21 piece HS concert band is doing this, its like 3 flutes, 5 clarinets, 3 saxes(2 alto 1 tenor), 2 t-bones,3 trumpet/cornet, 3 baritone/euphonium and a tuba. We also have 6 or so percussionists. Our band director conducts Both our junior/senior high bands, and so she may have the jr. high join us.
My Band's favourite piece to play - We can practically play it from memory.... Though its awkward when all the other clarinets rely on me for their cues (especially when I play 2nd - out of comfort guys)
I know! Silverbrook is awesome! I'm in 7 grade at Hopkins Jr. High in the Bay Area and my school has this tradition of always getting superiors at the Disneyland and Great American Festivals and getting 1 place in everything and this year my class is playing Silverbrook at the Great American competition/ festival thing!
Playing this for our spring concert this year and I absolutely love it. If you wanna know some other songs check out As Summer was just beginning by Larry Daehn, Rollo Takes a Walk, and Ride by Samuel Hazo. All great songs. Also if you wanna check out our performances look up Rappahannock County High School Concert Band.
Ahhh. Our band is playing htis for our spring concert and festival! We have.... ehh. three weeks to finish learning it! yaaay. Ugh. I'm screwed. Hahaha.
I was last chair playing in my 7th grade band and we have a very small school so the high school seventh grade and 8th grade band played this as a whole and I loved this song so much I studied my part for 3 months straight and absolutely nailed this it sounded amazing! The percussion in this is epic and extremely loud 👌🏿

We're playing this in our 8th grade band and I like the song!! I play the trombone and we play the boom boom booommm!!! boom boom boooommm!!!!! The second part of the song sounds like it was part of the soundtrack in the first pocahontas movie!!!!
i have played the entire percussion 2 part for this song the past 3 years and i love it so much that i don't even look at the music to remember the parts. They're burned into my soul. Lol
This song is GREAT! The beginning section's okay, but the middle part with the french horns just rocks! And the ending is like, out of this world! That low brass part... just rocks!
I know this comment is super old, but yes it is related to the Quad Cities. Sherrard High School commissioned Michael Sweeney to write it for our 100th anniversary of band several years ago...I think 5 years. We played it for graduation.
My word this brings back band memories. Good times.
When the whole band plays the last part like at 4:12 when the saxs play is just amazing and it makes me kinda sad and emotional just thinking about my band members

Loved playing this song for my last concert in middle school. I had a blast in band. This song is so cool, especially at the part where the flutes (yay!) had their solo after the slow part.

my 8th grade band is currently preforming the song. We practice it now, then we play it with the high school for our last performance of the year.
