I've been following you forever, but just recently started exercising daily last November. I never put any miles on, and suddenly December was more than 100 miles walked/jogged. Since Nov 22nd I have lost 25 lbs. Here are some things I wish I knew: 1) I HATE jogging. I try to fit in 1 mile every now and then in the middle of my 6+ mile walks. When I do run a single mile on mile 1, it increases my calories burned by more than 300 over the course of the 6 mile walk. When I can't jog, I mix it up with either swimming, maxed incline walk on a treadmill, or my favorite: rucking. 2) Rucking with a weighted backpack is way better than those weighted vests. Since the weight is a little further from your body, I actually feel the most burn in my back and core for stability. I am now 240 lbs and I can ruck 5 miles with 45 lbs in the pack. 3) I never knew how exhausting ketogenesis is when actively burning fat for an extended period of time. It gets brutal around month 1.5 of exercising every day. I thought I was sick for about 2 weeks before I realized what was going on. 4) Motivation is nothing compared to discipline. When I started out I would need to motivate myself with a sugary snack to get off my butt and go for even a 1 mile walk. I have replaced that with discipline - I rarely miss a day, but when I do I feel like there's a void in my soul. If you are consistent enough for about a month, you will crave workouts, and I've never experienced that before. Thanks for all you do - this video in particular was amazing!
Thanks so much! I especially loved your point about motivation. Motivation rarely happens on its own- it’s more about discipline and consistency! So glad you’re here and congrats on all the miles! Go get it! ❤️🤓
Walking is such a wonderful way to move toward running, though it is a great exercise in it's own right! Anything that helps people's health and mental well being is a good thing! Congratulations on 500 subs! Keep pushing Heather!
Great information Heather! I find the best exercise you can stick with will give you the best benefit for sure! The run/walk method is great for new runners so they get the benefit of both. Awesome!
Excellent coverage of the topic, RGG! It seems like runners need to be especially careful about the yummy fueling products being marketed so intensely at us now. Those calories count too.
Congrats on the 500 Heather, really well deserved 🎉 Definitely would like to see a video on running and mental health. I always like to hear others thoughts on this as it's a bit reason why I get out there on the trails every week.

Thanks! The key is to find an exercise that you’re happy with! 🤓
So true Gill! Run/Walk is such a friendly way to bridge the gap to becoming a runner!
Walking is also a great thing to incorporate during long-distance running as it helps reduce lactic acid buildup and thus run longer!
Absolutely! Ultras would never happen without walk breaks! 🤓
Awesome video Heather. I am loving the content you have been putting out. Huge fan. As always!!
Aw, thanks so much! You're awesome! ❤️🤓
I found the video informative. I think having a video on the mental aspects of running is a good idea
Thanks! I will definitely add a mental health video to the list! 🤓

There’s also a balancing act of how much to take in during a long run! Calories everywhere! 🤣
