Bear Essentials: Sailing Europe after Brexit Schengen Shuffle 90/180 | Right of Innocent Passage

  • Sailing post Brexit in the Schengen zone! In this video we explain how we, as third country British liveaboards on a sailboat, work out our schengen 90/180 visa time and how we understand the right of innocent passage that we used to allow us to pass through the Schengen territories with no visa time remaining.
    Bear Essentials is an occasional mini series with explainers, technical inputs, how to’s, and anything of interest that doesn't fit in the regular episodes.

      @@iainmacdonald1170 You should pay more attention then, shouldn't you. Backwards facing, self destructive, drunken rampage seems like an entirely accurate description of the country to me especially after watching our "government" rip its self apart. Backwards facing, leaving the EU is taking us back to the 70s whilst the rest of the world keeps moving forward, the strikes, people working full time have to choose between heating an eating, threatening to break international law and trigger a trade war seems pretty backwards to me. Self destructive there's a border between Northern Ireland (which is now the most productive part of the UK) and the rest of the UK, Scotland is going for another independence vote with more support than ever, cant get much more self destructive than literally removing parts of the UK from the UK. Drunken rampage, our Leaders had ILLEGAL party's through covid, suit cases of wine, broken swings, let the bodies pile high, 25,000 unnecessary deaths in care homes...broken swings not enough of a drunken rampage for you? How about Boris getting drunk with known KGB agents the day after the KGB launched a chemical weapon attack on British soil killing British citizens and seriously injuring a British police officer?

My boat is rigged for off grid, i have been preparing for project fear turning in to project reality so i can easily weather this storm, its still sad to see our whole society collapsing in on its self. If the tide dosnt turn soon, the Rwanda refugee scheme, tearing up the human rights act, lowering our food standards, the abandonment of British citizens in need, then i will sail off to retake my citizenship. Hi :-) yes I have seen Fair Isles video and that was not cool but I have heard online anecdotes of people being fined twice by Albania once for entering the waters without clearance and once for leaving again without clearance as they passed through. Not entirely sure under what mechanism the Albanians did that... did an Albanian patrol boat intercept them in Greek waters?! You never quite know what to believe online however I am certainly not saying that it doesn't happen... simply sharing our research as we get asked about our "no schengen time" passage across the Med (yet to fully air on youtube but details on insta etc) a lot. Hello Iain,
    I understood it that many had assumed Gibraltar would be a zone that post Brexit Brits could use as a non-Schengen area but in reality that's not the case, I.e. staying in Gibraltar counts as Schengen time, which is pretty useless as it's a British territory. Is this correct? Many long term yachties have spent time in Turkey as it's outside Schengen and the authorities seem very generous in allowing yachtsman temporary residency for extended periods. Useful if you want to hop back into Schengen after a winter in the eastern med.

    • @FollowIntrepidBear
      @FollowIntrepidBear  2 года назад +1

      Hi Phillip, at this time Gibraltar definitely is not in the schengen zone. We were there for most of March and our passports were not stamped. Brit friends who had schengen time on their clock crossed into Spain a few times and their passports were stamped at the border. There are ongoing negotiations around Gib regarding schengen and it may or may not become part of the zone but at this time it is definitely not despite what is said on many forums. Having seen how British it is there I find it hard to believe Brits won’t have some kind of exemption if it does become schengen however only time will tell on that I guess. It’s a fascinating place if you get a chance to go there. 😊⛵️

There seems to be another way of getting around the rules. ruclips.net/video/neLaNXsht6I/видео.htmlsi=0IX5O-ONQRJP38oF Being crew on your own boat seems to work as long as you don’t stay a night on land, live on your boat and use the right agent to help you complete the right forms for each country…

      @FollowIntrepidBear  3 месяца назад

      Thanks Rob, yes we've seen that and its definitely something we'd consider if returning to the Med but agents are not cheap so it's all a balance and I do also believe its a bit of a legal grey area with the law intended for commercial seafarers being extended to leisure sailors. I'm not averse to using it if it works though and definitely something we might look into in the future but for now we're heading back to the UK where it won't be an issue... it just won't be as warm!! Cheers :-)
