Ikr, it’s a biopic
Back in 1980s college film classes, professors would discuss how 1950s monster movies were a metaphor for Cold War paranoia. This theory fits in with that concept. Even if the parallels being discussed are unintended they're still have a significance fore being there at all.
Yeah, Godzilla was a metaphor for the bombs dropped in Japan during WW2. The ironic part is that it's also a victim of those same bombs being dropped, causing it to grow to its enormous size and gain its powers. I'm pretty sure that they even say in the movie that this is the first of many Godzillas. It's a shame the rest of the movies lost the metaphor.
In Film CONCEPT. Seriously the success of Nolan should be an academic subject
@@deviousangel336I suggest you go check out the trailer for "Godzilla: Minus One"- definitely seems like a return to form
@@deviousangel336 Not really, like the metaphor is still present but the other movies have other things to talk about. There was another Godzilla and other forces that awoke in the post-Godzilla age, and just as Japan adopted nuclear power and gained greater concerns, Godzilla also became more of a dangerous ally.

Calling Oppenheimers beginnings “humble” is a huge stretch. Dudes family was so rich that when he attempted to poison a teacher at Cambridge not only did he not get arrested he didn’t even get suspended because his dad made a huge donation to the school.

I was NOT expecting an Oppenheimer theory, but you actually made it happen. That’s incredible. Great job!
Considering how HUGE the movie was, this was pretty expected in my eyes.
@@snigdhasingh5682but it’s an actual event that happens it doesn’t make since to make a theory about the movie itself
The Oppeheimer theory I was expecting is on how Nolan made a nuclear explosion without CGI or radioactivity...
Oppenheimer is propaganda, for when they tell us we're being attacked, to start WW3!
You must not know mat
A Chris Nolan directed James Bond film seems expected, but a Chris Nolan directed Star Wars film seems really unexpected, like I would imagine the film would be on a similar level to Rogue One or Andor in terms of visuals.
It won't happen as long as Kathleen Kennedy is President of LucasfIlm.
Well yeah that's the thing, if he does something like Andor or Rogue One, people will say he was just lazy and copied both himself and other SW movies... Maybe if he had a good story that's not in the usual blockbuster mold. Even then... 🤷🏼♂️
Andor was the first thing that came to mind for me if Nolan directed a Star Wars movie.
I think a film theory on older movies would be awesome, like the first thing that comes into my head is the 6th sense which has a lot of room for theories.
Also Mulholland Drive would be pretty sick
No. Let some things be untainted by clickbait. If you enjoy ambiguity in stories, then enjoy it. You don't need it pointed out to you, and especially not by someone famous for completely inventing and fabricating angles, and totally flopping on details of the source material. No way.
@@davemccombs I can see your point.
I love the implication that the proliferation of nuclear weapons and superhero franchises are equally tragic events.

So, it's all just been a $100 million way for Nolan to say "he just like me fr fr"?
I mean i get it for sure. All the parallels make sense. I just think its funny to imagine Nolan sitting around and randomly thinking "You know who im JUST like?! The dude that created the bombs that killed hundreds of thousands people! Our struggles are exactly the same."
Just seems like a reach considering Nolan didn’t even want to do a sequel to Batman begins. Let alone let his film be the template for a plan 20 years in the making with the MCU

oppenheimer as a character in nolan's film is one of few self inserts that isn't an overpowered god that has no flaws, proving that self inserts can be good characters with flaws and traits found within their universe.
…. A self insert is used to describe when an author inserts themselves into a (fictional) work. Oppenheimer is an actual person. He’s not a self insert. It’s more like a… self-allegory? I dunno but self insert isn’t the right word
Oppenheimer is on the top 5 of the best movies ever made for me.
Just because they achieved 3 hours of dialog to be really entertaining and intense.
The only problem I have with the film, sometimes it was hard to follow in which exact year something happend.
You shouldn't have a continuety gripe with a film you deem to be in the top 5 movies you watch.
How many movies have you watched? I loved Oppenheimer but top 5 of all time is crazy
@@shiven513it's quite literally next level film making. It's because we can't always follow the year to start with is what makes it so brilliant. You actually have to think about it for the whole movie to fit and it fits perfectly. Oppenheimer is just perfect, quite literally my only complaint is that it was a film including the events of world war 2 and didn't have any battle scenes but the way the movie was scripted. It never needed it, it is appealing to every type of audience who find one form of education appealing.
This is probably my 3rd best film i ever watched and i was able to actually feel the emotion of the character which hasn't happened since endgame when Iron man died. Except in this case it happened for half of the film.

Can you do a theory on Wallace and Gromit? It's a beloved show from our childhood, but there is definitely something off about the whole thing. Is Gromit actually a dog? He always seems to be the responsible one, with ability to communicate with humans. Is there some kind of dark backstory hidden in all of it? Why is Wallace living alone, inventing things all the time? I dunno, you're the experts 😁

Ooh that sounds like that’d make some good theories
Y'all need to see the Hugo Décrypte interview of Nolan. This is one of if not the best interview that I see in a long time.
Even Nolan is chill and enjoying this interview.
Well, altough 'Barbieheimer' was a sucess Warner made it out of spite: they refused to change their movie's date just to outshine Nolan's movie (the 'government' working against Oppie). The thory even parallels the movie's main villain being played by Robert Downey Jr which played Tony Stark/Iron Man and quickstarted the MCU (Nolan started everything with Batman but using his original formula the industry created something even bigger that is growing out of control).
He’s right about Star Wars pushing tech. It was like when Ep 3 or even Star Trek came out. Seeing the ships, aliens, warp drives, teleporting, it all made it amazing accompanied by the story

I’d love to see a more dramatic Star Wars movie like Rouge One , but directed by Christopher Nolan

Even if Nolan got a chance to do a Star Wars film, there’s no way the executives in charge of LucasFilm will let him do it his way. Case in point: the previous directors of Solo: A Star Wars Story before they were fired, replaced by Ron Howard and a large chunk of their film being reshot. He’d have better luck staying with Universal Studios and not have to worry about Executive Meddling as much. And they’ve got a few good big franchises that he could work with or even reboot with a grounded realism like he did with Batman.
matpat, my man. THIS IS ACTUAL HISTORY. YOU CANT MAKE A THEORY ON IT....
Fun fact. Oppenheimer is one of the first screenplays to be written in first person.
Ok that is very interesting
A Nolan Bond movie would really be epic because the tone can go in so many different directions
Love this, as soon as I heard the first two minutes I knew you would refer to the dark knight trilogy, the superhero genre that Nolan brought back was taken and turned into the gigantic studio driven mcu that we know today (I love mcu tho) and it’s not far off to say that true films have been real silent since the mcu took over… no pun intended ;)
Amazing vid man this is a truly poetic revelation of a biopic vs hidden autobiography that I never would’ve thought about if you never made this so cheers!

I went to watch mutant mayhem with my older sister and when we got there the workers told us what theater it was in and when we went in there it was playing Oppenheimer and we sat there for like 5 minutes hoping it was just trailers. (Turns out something happened with the projectors and the front desk workers weren't told so we got two free tickets.)
My only issue with this theory is that it can be argued the super hero craze didn’t start with Nolan, instead being due to Tim Burton’s Batman (1989).
Other than that, this is top-tear film analysis. Reminds me of the ones I read in college.
id counter on that since the tim burton batman movie was in a seperate 'block' of superhero movies dark knight and ironman were the tangible start of the current block in my opinion
@erubianwarlord8208 perhaps the Start of the current block, but without the prior block, there would have been no new one.

Maybe you can't do new movies for a while but that just means you can do more Tv stuff. Like maybe theirs a bigger reason why there's been a literal onslaught of cancellations over the last year and a half.
He already kind of covered that in the Disney is Dead video. Companies are spending way too much money on CGI and don't feel confident in the finished product. As a result, they're doing a lot of re-shoots, costing them even more. In the end, they aren't able to make back the money they spent, so they cancel the show. That or they don't feel confident in an upcoming show and cancel it before it even gets a chance.
@@deviousangel336 True but Disney shows are only a fragment of the casualties. Other networks have been axing shows left and right like a shooting gallery.
Just watched this movie in theatre, like two hours ago. Nice timing
I wanted to go see it but I realized that everyone on the screen was on strike. And I wondered if buying a ticket was like crossing a picket line. I will see it eventually. When the strike is over.
I always dreamed of being a movie producer and making movies based on alternative history of human events the what ifs of human history and I always wanted my movies to be wrote and directed in Christopher Nolans style of storys always seemed like it would fit the narrative.
Just remember that if you want to make it alive through more than one film in a Nolan series, be played by Cilian Murphy. Also, if you want your soundtrack in a Nolan film, be Hans Zimmer.
Or Michael Caine and Ludwig Gorranson
It would be so cool if you could do a game theory on the VR games Job Simulator and Vacation Simulator! The basic outline of the game is that you’re the only human left alive and a bunch of these robots are showing you how ancient humans used to function. Anyway, it would be so cool if you could do a theory explaining how humans went extinct. But there is this one moment where they mention a “human uprising” which makes me think that maybe we aren’t extinct? I don’t know what I think, but it would be so cool to see you guys do a video!
if I had to make a theory every week for a new movie, no matter how ridiculous it is, I'd probably unalive myself

You cannot convince me this movie is about Batman.
Given how many times Disney has fallen out with big name directors that had strong visions (Edgar Wright, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the very open falling out with Joss Whedon) I wouldn't be surprised if Nolan starts making a Star Wars movie, but I would be surprised if that actually reaches theaters.

Similar quick talking, pacing, amd interpretation of history about the Cuban Missle Crisis ( the kinf of situation that was alluded to at the end of Oppenheimer)... highly recommended, very good movie.
Entertaining as usual. Always impressed by your analysis. I would not be surprised in a future video I acknowledge you said Nolan will do "Star Wars" or "Bond" next. 🙂

Would love to see a theory on the mirror from Oculus is.
I should probably watch Oppenheimer before watching this.
Eh, the movie is based on a historical event, so you most likely are just being told something you've heard before in this video
That….actually might work. But…Christoper Nolan needs to have control of the wheel. A big reason that great directors sometimes make a bad mad movie is not because it isn’t there fault, but sometimes because movie corporations are leaning over the directors shoulder. That’s not always the case, but it can be. A big concern I had was when the second Avatar was coming out. But only because James Cameron had control over it and wouldn’t let Disney choose who to be apart of production did that movie turn out good. So I hope that if Christopher Nolan does make a deal with Disney on Star Wars he’ll have control of the wheel and the Disney Executives will just let him cook
Well, to be fair, At&t was the one who forced wb to put its entire video library on HBO. That was in your last theory about AT&T being the landmine that pushed WB over the edge and to its current doom.
“Now I am become sleepy, the goer to bed.”
We know there's 3 types of Star Wars films planned, the Old Republic, way before the Clone Wars, a Rogue One for episodes 6 and 7 that's linked to the Filoni shows, and episodes 10-12.
If Nolan gets into any of those, that could be fun.
