We do outreaches every third Sunday to supply the homeless with a meal, hygiene kits, new socks, and other needed items but we have always just put it in a grocery bag. I love sewing so now we can make blessing bags to hand out! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Wow Beverly, Thank you so much for watching and sharing your story. I hope that you will make a few. Thank you for being a part of an outreach. One of my favorite quotes is "In a world where you can be anything, Be Kind". God Bless, - Brody
Brody, thank you for this idea. I regularly make bags for our local shelter, this is a great idea. I use denim and upholstery fabric to make them a little more durable. I love this tutorial. Nicely done!! I have just made one out of canvas, used 60” wide fabric with a 13” center strip, I boxed the corners 2” to give the bag width, and I sewed down the center line of the triangle so the pocket inside was divided. This bag pattern will serve many homeless in my California area. You are the blessing in sharing your ideas.
Sandra, So pleased to hear that you have made some. Thank you for sharing your ideas. YOU my friend are a blessing to your community. Thank you , - Brody
You're welcome to distribute the pattern to anyone willing to make one! We hope that they will embrace the idea. Thank you for watching. Hope you make a few. - Brody
Hi Pamela, Thank you for watching and your kind words. We are Las Vegas Locals and love where we live. Everyone should do the best they can to help someone in need. Take care, - Brody
Oh my gosh... The 10 minute table runner with a couple extra steps... Love it... Can hardly wait to make them... My annual personal service project is going usually make winter hats for adults and pillowcase... This will be a great addition... Thank you so much
A clever project ... using the "10-minute Table Runner" pattern, which is so easy, and turning it into a tote bag! Like one of the commenters suggested, one pointed flap could be turned to the outside and fastened with a snap, button, hook & loop tape, etc. Another suggested sewing a perpendicular line down to the points of the triangles to make two pockets for each side. That got me to thinking ... I am going to see what happens if reverse the seaming on the end that will be the outside flap. Then sew the perpendicular line to form two pockets so that there can be two pockets on the outside of the flap. Hmmmm...? Our little town doesn't have a homeless shelter, but we do have a safe house for victims of domestic violence and they surely do appreciate donations of personal hygiene items as many of their clients have to leave their situations in a hurry and cannot pack anything along. These little bags would be a bonus gift.
Bag making techniques I've not seen before! When you folded in the triangles I could see that one of them could be a flap to go over the front of the bag and maybe fastened down with a button/hair elastic band - thanks for some new ideas - keep up the good work :)
Great bag. I am sure that you know that is the same way you make a table runner just the folding and the strap makes it into a super bag. THanks for sharing. love your videos.
Watch it a time or two Laura and you will get the hang of it. The pattern is also very clear and can help you through it if you like written instructions. Please let us know if you have any questions. We would be glad to help.
Wonderful community act! Clever, interesting bag pattern! Put a colorful quilt on that back wall. We creative people like patterns and color. Your quilt store name should be on that wall as well. You might as well do some marketing while you are putting in the work.
Great tute. Thanks for helping the homeless. Could you get some of your subs to organize a March on Washington? Bc, you know, we should just refuse to accept homelessness in America. Also: How can you iron on top of your cutting board? After I bought my first one, I got my iron too close to the cutting board & it is still wobbly on that end.
Hi! Thank you so much for watching. Yes it is a shame we have homelessness in such a rich and prosperous country- that is why we do what we can to relieve a little suffering. Hope you're able to make one and donate to a local charity. I use a Martelli cutting mat- they are very durable. As long as your iron isn't too hot and you're moving quick it doesnt warp your mat.
How do you get your cutting mat not to warp when you iron on it? I have ruined a mat by doing that. My group makes tote bags for cancer patients and we add small pillows for breast cancer patients, little rice bags for hot or cold and some kind of hat. We also make fleece blankets. Thanks for all you do.
Hi Sandy, We use Martelli mats- they are very durable! So happy to hear there are so many people like you out there that are still helping those in need. We hope you add this pattern to your list of ones to make. Take care and God Bless. --Brody
I use a Martelli cutting mat. You can iron on top of them as long as you aren't using a super super hot iron. I do quick little presses on them when needed, however rule of thumb says don't iron on top. Thanks for watching!
As you can see we are behind with our replies. I hope you have your answer by now. I am trying to catch up and stay caught up. Thanks for your understanding and thanks for watching.
I never made my bags like that but I'm going to try it, I make bags and backpack and drawstring backpack too and masks but I give them to people, my daddy always said never sell and I don't not at all....
You ironed on your cutting mat.😵😵..don't that warp the cutting mat ? Watched all your videos and see more quilts and stuff designed for women...don't see any quilts for men..you know the kind they display in their man caved,on their favorite chairs, or back of couch, something not to flowery or girly looking. Need to see more fabric for the men in our lives and quilts they would love. I know the quilting industry was designed for women to keep them out of the man's hair..but it don't all have to be girly looking.. What about Harley quilts, or fishing quilts, or camping, or cars, or tools, big truck quilts... Figured you all are guys...where is the guy quilts???

That is so sad, the figure on homelessness. Contrast to the amazing donations your quilt shop makes.

His iron was not hot, watch the video again, the iron did not actually crease anything. DONT iron on your cutting mat.

What kind of a cutting mat do you have? I was always told never, never use the iron or any heat on the cutting mat!
I was wondering the same thing....then I noticed he changed near the end.
