Please save your money and wait until next year, or even just get the iPad Air 5th generation on sale, because this iPad is definitely not up to what Apple is capable of doing with the iPad as a whole
I have it and I must say it’s an underrated thing. Sure the pen maybe is weird but you will not notice it after a while! And also it’s very fast and smooth. Why wait? I mean it’s just very good. You get all accessories for the pen with the pencil when you buy it. And the power of it is great too. The speakers are good and the microphones as well. It is very underrated
Correction re iPad 9th Gen: It does have centre stage on the front camera. I have had the 9th gen for a year now, and have used centre stage many a time when making a Zoom call. This feature is also highlighted on Apple's website.
Me too im using 9th generation up to now and when im in IMo with my kids i can also use it in center stage and the battery life is much much appreciated untill now.
That's the perfect iPad for me. Keep in mind not all the people change their devices year to year. The last iPad I bought was an iPad Air 2 in 2014. And I'm still writing this comment on it, because my main purpose of it's existence was watching RUclips and Netflix. Sometimes some web browsing and professionally I used it for Teams calls and also for apps for live sound mixing consoles like A&H dLive or SQ. I did not need anything else, and I would continue to use it if the battery would not become unreliable. My brother bought an iPad Air with the M2 chip and I loved it but could not justify the price on such low usage and since I know I won't use the Apple Pencil at all the 10th gen is perfect for my upgrade as it looks the same as the Air (which I love the look over the 9th gen by ba huge mile) and the camera in the middle is a big deal for me for the Teams meetings as I will look more naturally. So yeah I do get it in the year by year comparison it's a weird device, but for me it just ticks every single thing for a lower price than the Air. Keep in mind I used the 2014 till now with no issues for my usage so even if I get 6 years out of the 10th gen that's ok for me. So IMO there is a market for this product. I know I will enjoy it! I'm going over to iPad in the new year and reading your comments leads me to a question. Is the battery on your 2014 model still okay or is it like my Lenovo Yoga i.e. reaching the end of its life, neading charging far to frequently.
@@stephendeakin2714 it is not like dead dead yet, but it certainly requires charging a lot more frequently than it used to. And sometimes it is giving like low percentage problems - you think you have 9%, and it;s dead in a short while ;)
Since in the base configuration, this is 30% more expensive than the 9th gen, I'll be getting that. Also I kind of like having a bit of bezzle to hold it and not touch the display. The camera positioning is the best feature in my opinion (and the slightly bigger screen).
Dont wanna impose any choices on you but please check out the galaxy tab s8 as well. I bought the air 3 back in 2020 with the sole purpose of note taking and my experience with it hasnt been so good. My handwriting with the 1st gen apple pencil comes out worse than it actually is. I think its coz of the hard tip on the apple pencil.
@@bluupbrr286 I intend on using it occasionally to browse the net. It'll mostly be my kid's (5yo). Ios has better kids apps than android in my experience. For note taking I agree that an android device (or better yet, Windows) is far superior.

The iPad 10th gen has four speaker grills for design symmetry, but it only has two actual speakers inside. The additional two grills are primarily for aesthetics and do not house speakers, which is why you notice that sound only comes strongly from two grills (on the left when holding vertically).
I used an iPad almost everyday since I bought the 3rd gen iPad on release. Now I have a macbook pro 14 inch and honestly the screen is amazing. It is so good that I don't want to watch my films/series on my iPad. I know the 12.9 inch iPad uses the same screen, but it's to big for an iPad to hold in my hand for my tase. And it's expensive for a machine just to watch series/films. I'm just disappointed in the way apple threats the iPad. Why is the screen lacking compared to their macbooks/iphones, why not OLED? Why is the accessory line-up so confusing? And why are these machines getting so expensive especially outside the US. Most people have an iPad as secondary device and not as a replacement for their computer. So making it this expensive makes it not worth it for me and probably for most people.
For someone who has been using iPad Mini 2nd gen and trying to get iPad Air but the price always holding me down, this new iPad is a no brainer for me...Thank you Apple for this iPad !!!

@@lacosta0892 They need product separation so it's always going to have less features than higher models. The only thing that they should have changed for this price is the base storage at 128. I only use an iPad for web browsing, reading books, watching films and playing the odd game, all mainly when away from home. I don't write notes or do productivity etc, so don't need a pencil or a keyboard. I have a Mac for all that stuff which does it way better than the compromise of productivity tasks on a tablet. Even though I don't use the pencil, I do think all this moaning about a pencil is a lot of fuss about nothing, so you have to connect it with a wire instead of a magnet, big deal, you have to do that to charge the iPad anyway 🙂
I’ve always wanted an iPad Air bec I want a bigger screen but I dont want to pay as much. Was thinking of getting iPad9 instead as it’s affordable but smaller screen 😒 so when this iPad10 came out - where it’s iPad9 in a body and almost same specs of iPadAir - I said this one’s def for me! I dont even do productivity/art stuff so all of the fuss about the Apple Pencil, and Non laminated display don’t bother me at all 😉 My main problem now is what color to get! For 1st or 2nd world countries people think no one use i pad but when u see at 3rd world countries where they can afford i phone because of taxes i pad comes in handy ( talking about cheapest i pad) because the amount of power these i pad have beats any android phone
I was upgrading from the 8th gen and tried out the 10th gen iPad for about a week. Sleek profile, great battery life, but ultimately I was disappointed in the non-laminated display which felt cheap on top of the other compromises they made. It would be a great tablet if they kept it to a modest price increase, say around $349-$379, but not $449. The Air 5th gen then went on sale for $499 so I returned my 10th gen and got it. The Air has worse battery life but it’s a completely better experience, and having the M1 chip will make it powerful for years to come.
I hate laminated displays, They make repair a lot harder and the probability of the actual screen breaking with the digitizer is higher. There’s no difference, it’s less repairable, and it’s not very durable
Good balanced review. Price bump was painful. I agree definitely should start at 128gb storage these days. Still a nice upgrade from my older iPad 6. Not sure why people complain that it’s not a huge difference from last generation since most wouldn’t buy a new iPad every year anyway. USB-C helps with future proofing too.
I mean, I’d rather just get a surface laptop 5. Touchscreen, amazing keyboard, amazing speakers, amazing battery life, full desktop OS, awesome trackpad, lighter than an iPad Pro with a keyboard. Did I mention full desktop OS?
I will be getting this ipad as I am not a heavy user and I already have the apple pencil 1 and I don’t want to spend money on buying the pencil 2. I don’t see the charging and display as that much of a hassle too. Much better than my Ipad 7th gen ☺️
I’m right there with you. I still use my 6th generation and I have the Apple Pencil #1 so I’m extremely happy!! I didn’t want to spend money on another pen when my 1st one is perfectly fine. I don’t upgrade iPads every year so I think this will be a nice upgrade.
I am glad I went with the Tab S8 instead. Samsung let me traded-in my 5-6 years old S7 Edge for $200. Got another $100 discount. It comes with the S Pen. The case with keyboard and touchpad only costs $100.
I wanted to buy the Tab S8 plus instead of M1 iPad Pro cuz of Android, but when I looked at the software and processor, I picked iPad Pro, and I think in terms of software iPadOS is better than Android tablet OS at the moment.
@@dastaniam I mainly use tablets for note taking, annotating papers. I was debating between the iPad Pro and the Tab S8 since I am using a Macbook Pro as my laptop. It would be nice to use the iPad Pro as my 2nd screen. But I only needed to pay $400 for the Tab S8 with the S Pen after trade-in and discount. So, I went with the Tab S8 instead.

Umm camera quality from 9th and 10th was so minute you cannot call it an upgrade - at 10:33 in its like no difference and honestly outside of center stage the 9th gen looked better at times.
Just bought a 9th gen for $249. I’m happy to know I’m not missing out on too much. I think I saved about $100 going with the 9th and that seems more than worth it to me for my first iPad.
If you are getting the 10th Gen and dread the pen support… just grab the ESR Stylus Pen for a fraction of the price. It had USB C charging, magnetically attach to your iPad and supports every iPads … yes… every iPad.
I like my iPad 10 a lot more than my iPad 9. I like its fingerprint button (power button), the usbc plugin and the ability to swipe up and close an AP. I also like its minimal power consumption. I can charge up my iPad 9 and leave it closed overnight and it has about 75% power the next morning. I do the same with my iPad 10 and it still has 100% power the next morning. My iPad has 256GB of storage.

I just recently bought this ipad and I love it! People really say that there’s no real reason why this ipad should be an idea choice but I couldn’t disagree more! For me, the Magic Keyboard folio, the Landscape camera, the battery life and, obviously the fact its pink lol were the main reasons I got this iPad. I was flicking between this or the iPad Air 4 but I knew the Apple Pencil wouldn’t be something I’d use plus I didn’t care about the laminated display all that much (also non laminated are much cheaper to repair) as I was going to use it with the magic folio anyways so I didn’t care about the air gap. THIS IPAD IS GREAT, It looks amazing, the folio keyboard and camera are brilliant and it performs smoothly in day to day school work and home use. Shame no 128gb tho😢 I got 256 but it’s way too much
I bought this at Amazon it was $100 cheaper, but I don’t know that I like it. Seems to be a pain in the you know what. I just ordered last years model. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE I pads I have had one for yeas.. along with my iPod they have become appendiges. For this 71 year old that is saying something. Hardly watch the tv anymore. I use the iPad instead. The 10th generation is a pain to use. In all fairness I just started using it yesterday. I will probably get used to it. But will continue to use the 9th generation as well. I do very much prefer the home button to swiping. Please put it back.
I really don’t get the point of this new 10th gen iPad. If all you want is the base iPad, get the 9th gen. If you need extra features, get the Air. The extra cost of the air is totally worth it because you get second gen Apple Pencil support, magic keyboard support, and the m1 which brings way more performance as well as proper thunderbolt support.
Why do people go on and on about the Apple Pencil? My Apple Pencil had the lightning adapter in the box and I never charged it via the iPad to begin with. It looked just weird.
I love my new 10th gen iPad, I got a heck of a deal on it with my cell phone carrier ( Xfinity) for 1/2 off plus a free year of 5G service, I’ve had it since November and it’s a great upgrade over my 1st gen iPad Pro which still works well but I could tell it’s starting to show its age, but so far I’ve been super impressed with my 10th gen iPad in blue, 😂I got the 64GB version because that was the only one on sale but I have the 2TB iCloud plan so it’s not a huge deal, but this iPad is perfect for media consumption, playing call of duty, and watching movies and RUclips
Apple are very clever. Any enhancements are phased in over a number of years to get more money because a lot of people think they need the new model, when in truth they don't. I'm not anti-Apple as I have been a 'fan boy' for many years but am now becoming more sceptical and cynical about the company and its sales practices.
I bought the 256GB one and i am not disappointed at all. I love how thin it is and the processing speed is DEFINITELY fast for my daily activities like browsing, video streaming and even playing PUBG with full graphics. I wish the Magic Keyboard was cheaper though. I might buy a refurbished one on Amazon for $100. I will probably wait another year for the pencil or I will buy the Logitech crayon instead.
Thank you for another great review. I personally feel like Apple should do better with regard to giving the customer what do they want. At this stage I feel like Apple or just capitalise in on all the tech. And charging us more for it. I love Apple products but there is no way I would buy this iPad as the price outweighs the specs. Are you insane? Apple went from capitalistic to ultra-capitalistic after Jobs died. He left the company with a logistic expert that can squeeze out every last bit of saving and profits from suppliers and customers. I love Apple as a shareholder but I avoid Apple product at MSRP and Apple subscriptions like the plague. You’ll never be treated with an once of respect from this company; there is a reason people describe it as the cult of Apple

OK - so here's my dilemma. I moved to a mac-mini and use a surface pro 6 as my "mobile" option. So connect to a monitor at the office & wireless mouse keyboard etc. But I use ipad mini for reading and annotation. Switching between mac and windows is annoying (when using windows) and the Surface Pro is losing battery life and just isn't as smooth as the mac-mini. So I'm looking/thinking of getting a bigger ipad to replace the surface pro and the ipad mini. The 10th gen looks like it may suffice particularly as I have the 1st pencil. But will it do the job......

Yes I have it too. It’s such a nice iPad and I really dont feel like im using a baseline iPad which I have owned in the past. Having the camera on the top definitely outweighs the Apple Pencil.

She definitely wouldnt need 256GB if she is only browsing the internet/playing games. 256GB is mainly required for those using the ipad for education/work purposes due to the huge amounts of files/photos/apps.
sorry it still weird that you charge the apple pencil by connecting it to an ipad. you have the charger head with the cable so why not directly charge it to an outlet not thru a device just like any device like your phone
No point. S8 is much better when it comes to screen and speed. But what the S8 lack is iOS which is much better than Android when it comes to tablets (imo), even though Android has gotten much better in the last 2-3 years. So I would say it like this. From my personal taste, if you want a better-looking tablet, that looks more premium from the outside and also wants an amazing screen go for the S8. But if you just want something that works, with little to no issues go with an iPad. Btw. I would personally go with an iPad Air 2020 model which is around the same price as the 10th gen iPad while having better all-around stats and Apple Pencil 2 support. Sometimes you can even get the iPad Air 2022 for not that much more on sale, which is a totally different beast.
In my opinion, 9th gen is still the better buy because it is pretty much the same tablet. The new design doesn't really matter since everyone uses a case. The camera upgrade also pointless. It is cheaper. Performance is almost the same. For 170 bucks less, it's a steal since that is more than half of the 9th gen's price. So if you use the 9th gen for one year less even, paying 50% more is still a massive loss. Math
I'm going stuck between iPad 10th gen, iPad 9th, or iPad air 5th gen. Which would you suggest for my 7 year old (Kinder) who does school works (zoom, and homework as if its a laptop), and for watch and gaming?
Any of them would work. But you should either get the 9th gen or ipad air 5 because the price makes more sense. The only good thing about the 10th gen is that the camera is places for horizontal use, which works better on zoom.

I was upgrading from the 8th gen and tried out the 10th gen iPad for about a week. Sleek profile, great battery life, but ultimately I was disappointed in the non-laminated display which felt cheap on top of the other compromises they made. It would be a great tablet if they kept it to a modest price increase, say around $349-$379, but not $449. The Air 5th gen then went on sale for $499 so I returned my 10th gen and got it. The Air has worse battery life but it’s a completely better experience, and having the M1 chip will make it powerful for years to come.

I hate laminated displays, They make repair a lot harder and the probability of the actual screen breaking with the digitizer is higher. There’s no difference, it’s less repairable, and it’s not very durable

Still a nice upgrade from my older iPad 6. Not sure why people complain that it’s not a huge difference from last generation since most wouldn’t buy a new iPad every year anyway. USB-C helps with future proofing too.
Definitely think they shouldn’t or the price would be higher. It’s cheaper to just pay for the extra storage and share with family members

I will be getting this ipad as I am not a heavy user and I already have the apple pencil 1 and I don’t want to spend money on buying the pencil 2. I don’t see the charging and display as that much of a hassle too. Much better than my Ipad 7th gen ☺️

I’m right there with you. I still use my 6th generation and I have the Apple Pencil #1 so I’m extremely happy!! I didn’t want to spend money on another pen when my 1st one is perfectly fine. I don’t upgrade iPads every year so I think this will be a nice upgrade.

I am glad I went with the Tab S8 instead. Samsung let me traded-in my 5-6 years old S7 Edge for $200. Got another $100 discount. It comes with the S Pen. The case with keyboard and touchpad only costs $100.
I wanted to buy the Tab S8 plus instead of M1 iPad Pro cuz of Android, but when I looked at the software and processor, I picked iPad Pro, and I think in terms of software iPadOS is better than Android tablet OS at the moment.
I just got the s8 ultra and its the best tablet to date and I got it for £700 because if trade in.

@@dastaniam I mainly use tablets for note taking, annotating papers. I was debating between the iPad Pro and the Tab S8 since I am using a Macbook Pro as my laptop. It would be nice to use the iPad Pro as my 2nd screen. But I only needed to pay $400 for the Tab S8 with the S Pen after trade-in and discount. So, I went with the Tab S8 instead.

Umm camera quality from 9th and 10th was so minute you cannot call it an upgrade - at 10:33 in its like no difference and honestly outside of center stage the 9th gen looked better at times.
You should probably watch some of the other reviews where they find out. The USB-C on this device is intentionally slowed down.way slow.

I like my iPad 10 a lot more than my iPad 9. I like its fingerprint button (power button), the usbc plugin and the ability to swipe up and close an AP. I also like its minimal power consumption. I can charge up my iPad 9 and leave it closed overnight and it has about 75% power the next morning. I do the same with my iPad 10 and it still has 100% power the next morning. My iPad has 256GB of storage.

They use the 1st gen Apple Pencil because of the camera placement, so there can’t be a magnetic charger for 2nd gen charger

I just recently bought this ipad and I love it! People really say that there’s no real reason why this ipad should be an idea choice but I couldn’t disagree more! For me, the Magic Keyboard folio, the Landscape camera, the battery life and, obviously the fact its pink lol were the main reasons I got this iPad. I was flicking between this or the iPad Air 4 but I knew the Apple Pencil wouldn’t be something I’d use plus I didn’t care about the laminated display all that much (also non laminated are much cheaper to repair) as I was going to use it with the magic folio anyways so I didn’t care about the air gap. THIS IPAD IS GREAT, It looks amazing, the folio keyboard and camera are brilliant and it performs smoothly in day to day school work and home use. Shame no 128gb tho😢 I got 256 but it’s way too much
Remember 256 is not suppost to be used all in one sitting. So it would last you around 3-4 years
I bought this at Amazon it was $100 cheaper, but I don’t know that I like it. Seems to be a pain in the you know what. I just ordered last years model. Don’t get me wrong I LOVE I pads I have had one for yeas.. along with my iPod they have become appendiges. For this 71 year old that is saying something. Hardly watch the tv anymore. I use the iPad instead. The 10th generation is a pain to use. In all fairness I just started using it yesterday. I will probably get used to it. But will continue to use the 9th generation as well. I do very much prefer the home button to swiping. Please put it back.

I really don’t get the point of this new 10th gen iPad. If all you want is the base iPad, get the 9th gen. If you need extra features, get the Air. The extra cost of the air is totally worth it because you get second gen Apple Pencil support, magic keyboard support, and the m1 which brings way more performance as well as proper thunderbolt support.
USB C is the point of all things base Apple.

Why do people go on and on about the Apple Pencil? My Apple Pencil had the lightning adapter in the box and I never charged it via the iPad to begin with. It looked just weird.

I love my new 10th gen iPad, I got a heck of a deal on it with my cell phone carrier ( Xfinity) for 1/2 off plus a free year of 5G service, I’ve had it since November and it’s a great upgrade over my 1st gen iPad Pro which still works well but I could tell it’s starting to show its age, but so far I’ve been super impressed with my 10th gen iPad in blue, 😂I got the 64GB version because that was the only one on sale but I have the 2TB iCloud plan so it’s not a huge deal, but this iPad is perfect for media consumption, playing call of duty, and watching movies and RUclips

Apple are very clever. Any enhancements are phased in over a number of years to get more money because a lot of people think they need the new model, when in truth they don't.
I'm not anti-Apple as I have been a 'fan boy' for many years but am now becoming more sceptical and cynical about the company and its sales practices.

I bought the 256GB one and i am not disappointed at all. I love how thin it is and the processing speed is DEFINITELY fast for my daily activities like browsing, video streaming and even playing PUBG with full graphics. I wish the Magic Keyboard was cheaper though. I might buy a refurbished one on Amazon for $100. I will probably wait another year for the pencil or I will buy the Logitech crayon instead.

Thank you for another great review. I personally feel like Apple should do better with regard to giving the customer what do they want. At this stage I feel like Apple or just capitalise in on all the tech. And charging us more for it. I love Apple products but there is no way I would buy this iPad as the price outweighs the specs. OK - so here's my dilemma. I moved to a mac-mini and use a surface pro 6 as my "mobile" option. So connect to a monitor at the office & wireless mouse keyboard etc. But I use ipad mini for reading and annotation. Switching between mac and windows is annoying (when using windows) and the Surface Pro is losing battery life and just isn't as smooth as the mac-mini. So I'm looking/thinking of getting a bigger ipad to replace the surface pro and the ipad mini. The 10th gen looks like it may suffice particularly as I have the 1st pencil. But will it do the job......

I have it and I must say it’s an underrated thing. Sure the pen maybe is weird but you will not notice it after a while! And also it’s very fast and smooth. Why wait? I mean it’s just very good. You get all accessories for the pen with the pencil when you buy it. And the power of it is great too. The speakers are good and the microphones as well.

Yes I have it too. It’s such a nice iPad and I really dont feel like im using a baseline iPad which I have owned in the past. Having the camera on the top definitely outweighs the Apple Pencil.

She definitely wouldnt need 256GB if she is only browsing the internet/playing games. 256GB is mainly required for those using the ipad for education/work purposes due to the huge amounts of files/photos/apps.

sorry it still weird that you charge the apple pencil by connecting it to an ipad. you have the charger head with the cable so why not directly charge it to an outlet not thru a device just like any device like your phone

No point. S8 is much better when it comes to screen and speed. But what the S8 lack is iOS which is much better than Android when it comes to tablets (imo), even though Android has gotten much better in the last 2-3 years.
So I would say it like this. From my personal taste, if you want a better-looking tablet, that looks more premium from the outside and also wants an amazing screen go for the S8. But if you just want something that works, with little to no issues go with an iPad. Btw. I would personally go with an iPad Air 2020 model which is around the same price as the 10th gen iPad while having better all-around stats and Apple Pencil 2 support. Sometimes you can even get the iPad Air 2022 for not that much more on sale, which is a totally different beast.
Wow, add USB C and increase the price to $459.00 for a paltry 64gb. Next year they'll add pencil 2 support and add another$50.00.
In my opinion, 9th gen is still the better buy because it is pretty much the same tablet. The new design doesn't really matter since everyone uses a case. The camera upgrade also pointless. It is cheaper. Performance is almost the same. For 170 bucks less, it's a steal since that is more than half of the 9th gen's price. So if you use the 9th gen for one year less even, paying 50% more is still a massive loss. Math
I'm going stuck between iPad 10th gen, iPad 9th, or iPad air 5th gen. Which would you suggest for my 7 year old (Kinder) who does school works (zoom, and homework as if its a laptop), and for watch and gaming?
Any of them would work.
But you should either get the 9th gen or ipad air 5 because the price makes more sense.
The only good thing about the 10th gen is that the camera is places for horizontal use, which works better on zoom.
