      @@thebuddercweeper For sure and that's why the fancier Magic Keyboard will continue to exist on the high end and probably get this new one's fn keys in the future but keep in mind, on the table you can just use the back cover portion of it and use your Mac's keyboard instead thanks to Universal Control, and then when you're on the go you can attach the keyboard cover. In the end I think both this and the floating Magic Keyboard (however expensive it is) are good solutions for a hardware keyboard for a tablet, but the higher-end Magic Keyboard is better and frankly the best keyboard solution for a tablet on the market imo.

    I’ve actually got used to volume control switching places on my iPad. What drives me crazy that it is not consistent on iPhones and iPads. If you want to have it, implement it on every device not on only one

    • @sebastianjost
      @sebastianjost Год назад +2

      Why even implement that in the first place though?
      Sure you can get used to it, but to my knowledge, no one ever had a problem with the buttons not switching functions. It seems like a very unnecessary feature.
      Maybe nice to have as an option, but this shouldn't be the default behavior i.m.o..

      @aspensareprettyneat4002 Год назад +6

      @@sebastianjost They added it because they moved the button positions on the Mini and it made more sense there, then pushed it to all the others.
      That said, as someone with an iPad Pro, you get used to it after the first or second time you use it and it does actually make a lot more sense after that. If you have it in landscape, pressing the 'right' volume button increases the volume - the volume slider increases to the right. if you turn it to portrait, pressing up increases the volume slider up. You literally just click the volume in the direction you want it to go.
      Now after getting used to it, I couldn't imagine not having that feature. Pressing the left button in landscape to make the volume go up feels weird now on my phone in landscape. It's going against the visual indicator on the screen, and it is also going against the common norm that volume goes 0 to 100, left to right.
      It sounds dumb until you actually start to use it, then you realize it's actually a very intuitive design choice - you don't have to think about what button you press. More volume, press the direction of more volume no matter how you are holding the iPad.

    • @TTKChristo

  • @Der-Kleine

    As a Galaxsy Tab S7 owner, It's really hard to look at the accessories for this tablet and not think "why didn't they just copy Samsung?". The stand on the book cover of my tablet supports basically any angle, all the way up to 175°. And by having the pen charge on the back of the tablet, having the front facing camera centered in landscape mode is not an issue. As a bonus, the back cover with the stand also covers the pen charging spot, providing you with a nice bulge to grip on to when holding the tablet one handed.
    And then there's apple's dumb limited stand and pen that must stick out of the tablet to charge...

    • @thebuddercweeper
      @thebuddercweeper Год назад

      I haven't seen one of those in person but I've seen reviews and all the back-pen-charging tablets I've seen seem to have some pretty big drawbacks from putting it there.
      Also, you can (and should) charge the Apple Pencil 1 with a cable, not by plugging it into the iPad. It's not the perfect solution, but it's a hell of a lot better than most people think.
      Anyway, there's really no reason not to just get the iPad Air 4 refurbished or second hand and Apple Pencil 2, which have none of the issues of the iPad 10.
      I think the iPad 10 is Apple telling people "here's what happens when we do all the stuff you asked us to"

    • @topethermohenes7658
      @topethermohenes7658 Год назад +2

      @@thebuddercweeper actually no, missing stage manager is not what people want. Apple already has the software and hardware capable of true multi-task but just doesn't do it for reasons unknown to anyone. And also why not put the pencil on the top part (the left side when on landscape)?? It's exactly the same length as the pencil, it doesn't have any camera software anymore and it doesn't really undermine the iPads looks.

So this situation might've arised because Apple Pencil 1 works with non-laminated screens and Apple Pencil 2 is only available for fully laminated screens, like the ones iPad Airs and Pros have.

      Same, I have a wireless charger stand at home and a wireless pad on my desk at work. My car mount wirelessly charges as well. I can't remember the last time I actually plugged my phone in to charge it. I think I've plugged in my AirPod Pros to charge a total of 5 times since I got them half a year ago.
      For file transfer I've never had issues just using AirDrop. Watching my wife do that between her MacBook and iPhone when I was a 100% Windows+Android guy is one of the things that pulled me into the ecosystem. Now I use it daily for work to move things between my iPad Pro and my MacBook. And then there's Universal Control, where you can literally just drag files between them like one device. Freaking love it. I wasted soooo much time trying to create this experience between my Windows and Android devices. Logitech Flow was my biggest hope and I always had problems with it.
      Most cases solve the table+camera issue, but I do understand the frustration. Why have a case when you can have AppleCare, especially now that it's been expanded to -unlimited- yearly repairs ;)

There absolutely is a use case for iPads outdoors, especially cheaper models that will be used more as wireless displays for smaller productions than anything else. And you won't mind (as much) if they get a little beat up or die, as my poor iPad did; the pain was more sentimental than financial.

    As an first generation Pencil user, I gotta throw out there: I only charge my pencil with the dongle/converter included with the pencil attached to a charger. I have pugged the pencil into the bottom port a total of 5 times, once to charge it in an emergency, and the other 4 times were to pair it after an update or a crash. If you're plugging it into your ipad to charge it, you aren't using a good case, because I have to remove the case to plug in the pencil to the port. I am so clumsy, plugging the pencil into the bottom of the iPad is asking for broken stuff, but the cable and converter charging situation is fine. I use the iPad and pencil literally every single day, and have since I got it in 2018. It is better in some ways than my 27" Wacom monitor.

    It also doesn't help that a whole bunch of the 10th gen iPads are defective. I work at an electronics store and we keep getting returns of them because the pencils just aren't working even with the adapter. At least the displays are working at all though, when the 5th gen air launched we had an issue where people were returning them cuz the screen just weren't working for touch altogether. It's gotten to the point that with how unstable the last couple iPad launches are I don't feel comfortable recommending one to a customer until months after launch.

    One thing about the new boxy design of the iPads that people don't think about is that it makes repair much much better. Screen repairs on any model with the boxy design seals really nicely.
    This will make screen repair by third parties both easier to perform and higher quality/longer lasting on average.
    I run a repair business and the boxy designs make everything easier. The old designs it takes a high quality part and a skilled technician to install everything properly and make sure the adhesive sets properly so it won't lift off the frame a few months down the line.
    Also, don't ever take an iPad to Apple for repair unless you have Apple Care. They don't do iPad repairs, they replace your iPad and charge out the ass for it. On these base model iPads the glass and display are separate pieces and can be replaced independently. This means every model of iPad screen repair should be under $100 from reputable shops with good warranties and service. Apple will charge you hundreds of dollars for no reason. On the iPad Pro's for example you need to replace the whole display even if just the glass is damaged and the parts are expensive (which means expensive repairs.) But base model iPads are different. Don't get screwed by Apple. Their employees at the Apple Store know every so slightly more than people at the TMobile stores and they're incentivized to sell you a new product, not save you money by fixing your current one.

    If the device is an actual straight up tablet (iPad, Surface, etc), landscape cameras are preferred, because you're more likely to being doing productive stuff in landscape. plus, with the advent of using tablets for productive reasons and functional detachable keyboards (typecovers) and the requirement they're used in landscape, it's basically required to be in a landscape position.

      Oof, sorry to hear that. But then again, it seems that Apple lost all of its refined identity lately and only releases beta-like stuff: iOS 16 (worst optimised and most buggy iOS release ever), this iPad 10, the iPhone 14 Pro where the camera would vibrate itself out of the oblivion. This stuff was a rarity back in the day, now it’s everywhere. Android meanwhile caught up and even seems more polished. Maybe the iPad Air will do the job better (I have the 2020 Air 4 and it works great for drawing in ProCreate, but I expect Apple to slow it down next year, like they did with my iPhone, to force users to upgrade).

    the keyboard/folio situation is really weird... like it would be good if they were usable independently of each other, but, well, the fact that you CAN attach the keyboard without the folio just seems weird and wrong to me, so like you can have your keyboard attached and you can type on it, but the iPad has to lay flat on a surface unless you have the folio attached with the kickstand out. it's just weird. like yeah it's nice to be able to have the folio/kickstand without necessarily having the keyboard attached all the time, but the other way around just makes it weird. I feel like the could have easily come up with a better design that doesn't involve the eventuality of having keyboard attached with no kickstand, which will inevitably happen to some people who are like "well I want the keyboard, but the folio makes the whole package real thick, so i'll just leave the folio at home" then they're having to prop the iPad up against random objects, or lay it flat to type. just weird

    I just bought a 2018 12.9in IPad Pro with 512gb for school (I’m a pianist so I use the larger screen for sheet music) and I paid 500 for that. So far I can’t find a limitation for it. I can game on it (brawlstars lol) and it doesn’t drain the battery crazy fast, it supports the Magic Keyboard (tho I’m not gonna pay $350 to get it), and the 2nd gen Apple Pencil (I didn’t realize how nice it is to never worry about a charged Apple Pencil it’s literally charging anytime it’s not in use). This is just my rant to say go buy a used iPad Pro for the same price with more storage and power in some cases.
