Bluesbreaker definitely has more upper mids thing to it, whereas the king of tone seems a little more full and round. Sure you could roll off the tone and it would match up better though.
Surprised how similar they sounded...although I don't know why I should be, as the KOT is based on the Blues Breaker. You really managed to get them close, although I realise the KOT is much more versatile. I had the Blues Breaker when they first came out but eventually sold it. I've just bought a new and unused one (displayed in a glass case in a vintage guitar shop but not used as they had one on a board for demoing.) Result! Great demo. Subscribed!
JOE PERKINGS, I have tried various bluesbreaker clone pedals but I can't find one that can get those clapton cream woman tones and those 1962 bluesbreaker amplifier tones he used for the cream albums that has that tube breaking up tones. Which pedals can get those woman tones?
There were _so_ many factors in the sound of that recording that no pedal can just 'give' you the tone. But a plexi Marshall-In-A-Box overdrive (something like the Wampler Plexi Drive) and rolling your guitar's tone knob down will get you _closeish_ to the Woman thing.
The Bluesbreaker is NOT buffered, it is true bypass as well. It sounds like your Bluesbreaker is MKII and the KOT is similar to the MK1. Do you have a picture of the PCB board so I can see if it's MKI or MKII? They have some small differences in the circuit which change the tone of the pedal quite a lot.
Blues Breaker mk1 came out in 2 different runs. The initial release was 1992, and a second run after 1994. Mk1 was UK made and the other is Korean made. The second release (which they call the Mk2, but is in the same Mk1 housing), has a different EQ structure and is higher gain. These enhancement/changes were made based on negative feedback and sales at the time, as customers thought the BluesBreaker wasn’t loud enough (volume) or overdriven enough. Marshal seemed to have also changed manufacture locations for the Guvnor and Shredmaster pedals too... UK made ones sound completely different to the Korean made versions / all in the same housing. The initial released pedals had a clear made in U.K. sticker with seriel number. Korean made ones don’t advertise it, but they also don’t have the Made in U.K. sticker on. In the Bluesbreaker the ‘stock’ mk1 op amp chip is the JRC072BD, and some have the TL072 chip (assuming these to be the Korean made second batch). I’d be interested to know if the mk1 release was true bypass and the 2nd release (Korea made), had the buffered switch.
The Marshall has a little something extra that the KOT lacks, a certain clarity and oomph? More truly “Marshally”sounding? Little tough to describe in words.
you could probably turn down the tone a little or the treble on the amp, almost harsh , I watched another BBv KOT and even with the tone up full it sounded good
Another "single coil" demo, of a Marshall type. Neither had much "fatness" , and very bright thru most of the demo. I had the Marshall pedal years back, and with my Les Paul , sounded fat and marvelous.
Way more similar than I expected. The Marshall seemed a bit glassier. Could be good or bad.
Bluesbreaker sounds like a box and KOT sounds like a telecaster into a jazzmaster

The mk2 is in a completely different pedal casing so no it’s not a mk2 it’s a mk1

the KOT tone should have been turned up to match the highs of the bluesbreaker
