As an extra thing, you can also use a lighter to get it out of your perma lock too! The heat forces the leather out :)

Bfor i started into leather i did alot of paracord projects and use the same permalock needles...but in my area its hard to come by being remote location so u can make them from old gun cleaning kit the small rods u can cut and taper the end and where thecrods thread together is now where ur cordage or leather lace fits into...it limits ur size choise somewhat but works great in a pinch!

Great video!! I use the large permalink needles to lace my fringe bags together...makes lining holes up a breeze! I've also lost the one and only one I had so I did buy a couple the next time just to make sure I had some when I needed them..they reside in my needle box in their own little spot now..
.thanks again for some great info Chuck..be well!

Hi Chuck, Old LEATHER SMITH here, I always buy a dozen of EACH size, since I teach even my older students loose them, I usually find them later, I took a couple medium ones and flattened the ends and then on my anvil I bent them in a semi circle, easier 2 sew through multiple layers of leather, Great video as always GOD'S BLESSINGS BROTHER ✝️⚾🙃

I'm new to leathercraft. Several of the other sellers of scraps and small pieces and Weaver veg-tan leather (really nice shoulders) have real minor straight line "rubs" that show shiny on the leather. Some I can almost remove by rubbing my finger across them. Can Weaver/Chuck do a Leather Element (love them BTW), or direct me to a prior video on how to minimize the look or remove minor scrapes and scratches? I know stamping can work to cover, but beyond that? Thanks. Hope Weaver posts the Mexican Bracelet live class on RUclips, it was great like the rest of the videos.

Chuck, your presentations are clear, precise, and more helpful than I can express. Thank you! Some questions that might be fodder for more content: 1. If I want to use veg for a holster or sheath, but I would like to have the entire visible exterior of some favored chrome leather (pebble, suede, a color, etc.) can I Barge the layers together (to, say, a 5-6 oz) and treat it as a single piece? 2. How about more on baking/hardening leather and how it reacts and how to finish it? 3. Finally, can you do a tutorial on mixing Fiebings Pro Dyes to create unique shades and effects?

As always Chuck great info, even if i don't use a lot of lace. Recently I came across a time where a permalock for the lace stitching (doing a revolver holster for my father for his birthday) would have been useful, but didn't have it so i wound up just doing a hand lace stitch, gotta tell you knowing how to use one or having one would have been handy after splitting my thumb open on the anvil when i went to set the rivets lol. Still having trouble setting rivets straight to this day, i'll eventually get one to go straight but first 2 or 3 always slide a bit and have to be re done.

I remember a few weeks ago you were excited about these permalok needles coming out that would make the old split backs obsolete. I’ve used these same type needles with paracord. Hadn’t thought about lacing until now. Thanks.

I use those needles almost exclusively anymore. Love them. I was having a problem clearing them when the lace broke inside. I actually bought a couple of extra to have on hand. Now that I know how to easily to clean them I won't have to buy any for a long time. Thanks for the other tips on using them also.

I love these videos! In most of them you use quite dark leathers, are there any tips for lighter or brighter coloured leathers? eg bright blues or greens like which antique to use or a way to tone it down so it doesn't overpower the colour. Also if I wanted to stamp a bridle or coloured veg tan are there any tips for it? do it as normal? or is it a bad idea?
    Cheers!

      Hi Max,
Yes, you can stamp bridle leather and you actually don't have to wet it. Check out the video below to see a rifle sling Chuck made with a stamped border: ruclips.net/video/gu5oDFAnQIw/видео.html
On your questions about the antique finish, if you're talking about a blue or green pre-dyed leather you would probably have to do some experimenting. Sometimes those leathers have a glossy finish and I'm not sure an antique finish would go on evenly. You can dye your leather a bright color and then tone it down with an antique finish. We'll link another video we did using Red Pro Dye and then darkened it with a black antique finish. ruclips.net/video/31CqelRgm7M/видео.html
      See if this helps!
