All this was normalised at my previous workplace, that forced me to change careers. I tried establishing boundaries from the start, but that just meant further bullying and unfair treatment. It's been two years and I still can't forget the control these people had over my life. Any young professional should establish boundaries. No one is your master, you aren't anyone's slave no matter how much they coax you into doing what's convenient for them.

This is the condition of almost all the companies in India. The government is sleeping, humanity is dead, the laborer working in a private company is scared that when will he be fired from his job and then how will he run his house, by saying that there are no jobs in the market, people are being made to work 18 to 20 hours daily, that too by scaring them.
18 hours workday is normalized, glorified and expected out of employees by many big MNCs in India. The irony is, these same MNCs would not do that outside India.
Indians are being seen as donkeys to offload work to and India is seen as a huge factory willing to operate 24x7x365.
The Indian government is happy to take tax from us without ensuring the bare humane conditions to work. The government does not help taxpayers when they are laid off, but would happily collect the taxes from us when they aren’t even giving us the basic necessities.
Why India's work culture cannot be like that of other countries. Indian government should make laws in favor of workers/labor and humanity because who makes Someone among us made the work culture toxic, poisonous and hell for their own benefit, not someone who comes from outside.

i quit a big company recently. i was working in bangalore and it was my first time in big city. as soon as I came here I realized I lost 2 kg weight because I was too busy to cook my own food. My manager conducted meeting at 6:30 pm. She would cancel it and reschedule as her wish. I worked from monday to friday for 10 hours straight without break , morning 10 to 8 pm. I was too tired with travel. I didn't have energy to cook. After all that effort my manager would still grind me I am too slow in learning. I immediately quit after 1 month only. I hated how there was so little time for myself and my health. I am unemployed, and yeah I get worried I might not find another job. But to this day I am glad I quit. I am still positive I will find a job before I run out of my savings.

My friend joined an MNC at Pune from Kolkata.
The company offered a joining bonus, however after reaching Pune, they denied the JB. After much altercation HR said, we don't offer joining bonus at the time of joining 😂. Rather it is transferred after 1 year. Joining bonus turned to retention bonus.
It is very difficult to relocate and rent an apartment if the offered money is not received as per plan. Now, the problem starts. The Boss was always working from home. However, he instructed my friend to be at office everyday, sitting alone in the department. He was not allowed a single day leave and was constantly bullied about him being a Bengali and his marital status. Point is, pressure in corporates are not always only about workload, it is also about the environment and moreover the reporting boss. The companies or the HR don't listen to the new joinees.

Working 10+ hours is basic need of any corporate job now. If you work anything less than that, Corporate will view you as a liability and will harrass you. They will pay you for 8 hours but take in a nice 12-14 hours work. You can't retaliate. I know people who have been forbidden to take sick leaves just because they had work to get done. 9 am to 10 pm work was the norm in my previous firm. You had to work on weekends to meet their tight deadlines. You can't take vacations or anything. Even on paid leaves they can easily make you work. And the problem is some employees actively engage in such processes without being asked. Just to rise corporate ladder. Which encourages the Management more. Even after working so much they won't give you promotion or hikes unless you bootlick management's feet. It's pathetic right now in IT and similar fields. No WLB or boundaries. Hybrid work culture is a way for people to get work done beyond working hours.

When it comes to toxic corporate culture in India, it’s not just EY, It’s across. And the interesting thing is that half of the time the stress is not about the actual work but because of the mismanaged, bossy and high political culture. Many times the open door culture is just fake, just to make their US counterparts happy.
Anyhow what happened is sad. I hope things get better for the GenZ.

I have very less sympathy for doctors as they get an extremely high fees and even the healthcare is not affordable by needy people who needs it the most , just because they malicously attenpted to remove organic medicine and replaced with an expensive market, this is shameful because in ancient india healthcare was for everyone, and thats how it should be.

In this case Or any other similar cases, we can not completely blame corporates 100% this workaholic mind starts building up from the parents first to push their kids to excel in school, college and universities and in some cases even curricular activities, then comes teachers, professors and extra coaching professors who keep saying in class rooms to students of all age if you achieve nothing professionally then u r looser in life journey... Then comes corporates lastly which sadly makes end to some and to some depression and to some even mental hospital.... It's a chain... Think .....

😢 not a new incident in corporate India. It's just another day after an email is shot about the demise of the employee and life just goes on. This incident got highlighted however what about the numerous cases of employees who suffer silently in various sectors of corporate offices. It's a wake up call for all that there is a life beyond targets and aspirations of work culture. This slave mentality comes from serving our colonial rulers for recognition, even today when a (gora) client enters office we behave like slaves to a point unthinkable.

This is the result of corporate greed. The higher ups are just thinking of ways to squeeze the maximum amount of money for themselves from the blood, sweat and tears of entry level employees by taking advantage of (or more like abusing) the culture and mindset of the youth in this country and playing on their fear of being out of a job.
Also the problem is not just with companies like EY but also with the way parents raise their kids. In India parents only teach their children how to behave and what not to do and be respectful and humble but never teach their children what behaviours from other people are not acceptable and how to stand up for themselves and draw boundaries. This then results in them just keeping silent in the face of injustice and wrongdoings making them feel like it is the norm and that they have to accept it. The solution to this starts from teaching your children to not tolerate the BS.
