  • In September 1921 film star Charlie Chaplin made his first trip back to his native country England (having left in 1912) aboard RMS Olympic. In Southampton he was greeted by the Mayor and representatives of the cinema industry made speechs after which Charlie gave autographs to crowds of admirers.
He then traveled to London via Waterloo station and was met with crowds of hundreds, requiring the efforts of mounted and foot police to guide him to the Ritz Hotel.

I know they travelled on the Queen Mary, not sure about the Olympic though

I haven't found anything about Laurel and Hardy on the Olympic, I ran their names through Ancestry.com and found numerous passenger lists from their voyages. They traveled aboard the Aquitania, America, Paris, and the Queens Elizabeth and Mary, along with various other smaller ships.

Yes. It wasn't that mute films had no ability to catch voices, it's just that it usually was weak sounding because the film that catches both s ound and picture only used later. In fact - the voices sounded so bad that they settled for music alone..

Yes it is his voice but it was taken from later clips and cleverly over dubbed on to the film... If you listen carefully, you will hear its the same few words looped over and over. Very cleverly done to make it sound authentic! 😊
