Druuna55 if the state of Israel claims it's right of existence Torah based then they are secular atheist then these ppl are right. They are as they say not israelis but Israelites
As a secular Israeli, I'd like to add my perspective on the issue. Contrary to what was said in the video, the IDF does NOT need the Haredim, and it probably doesn't need at least a third of he people who are already being drafted. The security needs of he state don't rise nrise proportion to the population. There are two basic motivations for drafting the Haredim. 1) Integration of the Haredim into Israeli society - as a man interviewed in the film said, "we are Bnei Israel (Sons of Israel - Jews) NOT Israelis". This is seen as a problem in secular Israely society for many reasons, a big one being an economic one. 2) The petty Israeli value of "not being a sucker", which was literally the slogan of the whole movement to draft the Haredim. "If I sacrifice three years of my life to protect the country, why shouldn't they?". In the last elections a new populist secular politician was elected into government, and one of his big promises was creating "equality in the burden (of protecting the country)", he got voted into government because masses are by their nature stupid and petty. If you ask my opinion? There is no reason to draft them, in fact if we're talking about burdens, the financial burden of maintaining a constantly growing army on the economy is the real burden. On the other hand, I think that something needs to be done about the constantly growing rift in society.
I agree with you, the efforts to draft Haredim are 100% political. Yes, some of their communities have become too extreme in their opposition so they don't even go to the draft centers anymore. But the IDF is shifting away from being a conscript army and is trying to professionalize. There is no reason to contradict those efforts by forcing thousands of recruits into a military they detest.
Very interesting many thanks. I find it unjust they benefit from the taxpayers but don’t give back financially or with their work force. I’m times when life gets more and more expensive it’s just not correct.

A well prepared documentary. However, one key point is missing. The Israeli army’s mandatory draft was put into action in the early years of the state with 2 key missions: the first and most obvious - to defend and protect Israel’s borders and citizens from any hostility. The second, as Ben-Gurion emphasised many times was a program that would form and shape a uniformed (secular) Israeli society. Many years have passed, and despite many officers in the Israeli army agree that there is a surplus of recruits due to the mandatory draft system, many of which aren’t actually contributing in any way to the army (many officers have more than one secretaries, some of which are only there to provide refreshments); and despite many professionals and politicians argue its time to stop mandatory drafting and push for a more professional army, like many other western countries; the state of Israel still runs a mandatory draft system. The argument being made is that the only reason for no change is because of Ben-Gurions secondary mission. This is what’s missing from your video. Saying that Israeli officials are desperate for more soldiers to defend against uprisings is not entirely accurate, and clearly not the reason they’re after “haredi” youth (majority of “haredi” recruits do not serve in the field, and most of them have quite comfortable conditions).
The point is incorrect. The IDF prepares everyone for the war. Everyone needs to do the service. Officers do not have secretaries in the infantry, Navy and Air Force units. Maybe you are referring to the Admin core. But, most likely, you don’t know what you talking about.

+Gulroz Khan Israel is a democratic secular state. It is the homeland of the Jewish people, but also the country of all of its non-Jewish citizens as well. Rather Moses welcomed all who abided by God's law, according to the Bible his wife was an Arab and he welcomed Ethiopians and even the Pharoah himself to hasten to God's way. And a true Jew doesn't care about a man made mandate made in 1922.. And yes that is Satan's law. Israel does not belong to Jews or Arabs, in fact the Arabs in Israel are doing wrong if they are only there because of the land. Because according to Islam it doesn't matter which land you are in, even the Prophet Muhammad left the Holy area of Mecca because it was ruled by evildoers, Allah commands muslims to not live in the dwellings of the evil doers even if the Kabah should be there.

Horkos of Dõnsö arguably its not
As a secular Israeli, I'd like to add my perspective on the issue.
Love that someone from 'your side',can speak up and say the truth out loud.
I agree with you, the efforts to draft Haredim are 100% political. Yes, some of their communities have become too extreme in their opposition so they don't even go to the draft centers anymore. But the IDF is shifting away from being a conscript army and is trying to professionalize. There is no reason to contradict those efforts by forcing thousands of recruits into a military they detest.
religion just breeds extremism

There is a mistake in the video! The Heredy population was much more than a few hundreds in the beginning of Israel. However only a few hundreds were grunted the privilege to not join the army. Many years later this expended to all of the ultra orthodox in Israel because of their parliament representatives actions. (It is still to be mentioned that the high growing rate of their population was and still is a very big factor in this topic.)
There is also the issue that the yeshiva men are doing the most important defense of the country. When there is a war going on the men learn in shifts around the clock, the women say psalms ( saying psalms is a whole 'nother discussion). It was noted that the first ever terrorist attack in Bnei Brak happened less than a month after Rav Chaim was nifter ( died). His non stop learning protected the city all by himself evidently. Not good when the main competing political parties/ideologies in a country are driven by militarism on the one side and orthodox religiosity on the other.
I thought exactly the same thing. But as everywhere else there's the silent, reasonable majority. It's hard to have a grasp on them with only interviews like that.
It's a divide between Zionists having taken Palestinian land and homes by force vs. a fanatical religious sect seperate from the. mainstream.
Interesting point you raise. The unifying nature of a conscription defence force is definitely one missed in this video.
The point is incorrect. The IDF prepares everyone for the war. Everyone needs to do the service. Officers do not have secretaries in the infantry, Navy and Air Force units. Maybe you are referring to the Admin core. But, most likely, you don’t know what you talking about.
