  • Let me first state at no means that I am a certified mechanic, but I have always worked on my own vehicles, quads, tractors and such and I have a good mechanical aptitude. This is a pretty easy fix as long as you follow all the safety precautions necessary by disconnecting the negative terminal then waiting 5-10 minutes for all power to be discharged, and chalk your vehicle with emergency break just always to be safe. Therefore any procedure you perform is at your own risk, so always be aware of what your doing and be safe. If you have any questions comment below and I'll do what I can to help.

    It's been four years since you had published this video, and your video is still helping folks out with their SAS replacement.
    After determining that it was a bad Steering Angle Sensor I had ordered it online and it had arrived the very next day, which is amazing since I live in a remote area in Utah 3 hours away from SLC.
    I have a 2010 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE Z71. This repair had taken me about 45 minutes from the time that I had removed the negative battery cable to the time that I had reconnected it. The hardest part of this job was working on it after work in the dark.

    YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY CORRE+CT ! Thank you for this video. I took my truck to the dealer and was told it was the cold air aftermarket induction. They said they couldn't fix until I replaced it with the STOCK intake. They wanted to charge me and I fought them and did not pay. Other supposedly "Professional GM TECHNICIANS" said it was the computer and wanted huge money to fix. I did the research here on RUclips and found your video and you are right. Ordered the Steering Wheel Position Sensor and it cost me 45 bucks. I Just finished replacing it. PERFECT ! My sincerest thanks to you for helping me with your video.

      I have started it up hundreds of times and absolutely no problems. No error codes when I have it scanned. No Service Stabilitrack/Service Traction Control messages or Ding-Dings. My truck had all of the symptoms in the video Brian posted . No mechanic (tech) could diagnose it. Even the Chevy dealer techs couldn't and said it was the high performance air intake and that I had to re-install the stock system and bring it back to them. The video Brian posted is completely correct and I followed it to a Tee. I ordered the part from GM online and only paid 46 dollars and I did the INSTALL in my driver. i viewed Brian's video numerous times so that when I started, I had ALL OF THE NEEDED tools as Brian described. It went super smooth and the engine no longer goes up and down in rpm's when cruising in slower speeds.

      @allenmundorff3941 7 лет назад +1

      That is good news. I don't like to R/R without testing, but when techs tell you it's something as unrelated as the intake I gotta think I can make a better WAG than that.

    Good stuff man, thanks a lot for posting this! Just replaced my sensor on a 2008 chevy avalanche. The process is the same but yes I had torx 30 for the 3 bolts on that metal shield. The part number that came off the truck was different than what went on, but I got the new number from the dealership. Calibration afterwards was not required for me.
    Ratchet straps were a brilliant idea as well!

    I agree with the comment below about the torx/star wrench versus the allen wrench. I could not see the top of the guard, so ended up stripping the screws with a allen wrench before I realized it was a torx/star wrench. Also, I did not hear you mention the spring that comes with the new sensor. I think you need to leave the spring in place for correct alignmnent until the sensor is installed on the steering column.

Installed new one and put all of it back together and the new sensor was making a clicking sound. Warning light and message cleared but it sounded horrible when I turned the wheel. Autozone had to order it again for me. Just think my new part was bad, it would not spin even with 2 fingers and pressure.

    Brian, I own a 2006 Envoy Denali XL 5.3L. My "service stabilitrak" has come on and won't go out. Before this light came on I was getting a clicking, ratchet noise whenever I would turn steering wheel to the left or right. I was able to drive vehicle, no problem. Then the noise eventually stopped but now service stabilitrak light is on and when I try to drive vehicle it try's to apply brakes going backward and forward. What do you recommend?

    Mine is doing the same thing when you turn the wheel past 180 degrees. Another symptom I have and am also curious if yours did it as well, is loss of throttle response? No check engine light or "reduced engine power" warnings associated with the loss of throttle, does it whenever it wants.

    • @OutdoorPsychosis
      @OutdoorPsychosis  7 лет назад

      I never had that issue, mine would just lock up going around a bend due to the sensor malfunction, got a little dangerous

    • @Cassie1nonly1
      @Cassie1nonly1 7 лет назад +1

      Dang, that would be scary. Mine doesn't lock, but am thinking the loss of throttle could be associated to the bad sensor making the service stabiltrak and traction control warnings come on. Under normal working conditions, the stabiltrak and traction control work off/share the same system. When your tires break loose, it retards the timing and engages the stabiltrak/traction control and is a seamless transition under normal working conditions. In my case, I THINK, when I have throttle loss, the system thinks my tires are breaking loose and lasts for up to about a mile or so in some instances. I'm hoping by replacing the steering sensor, it will also fix my loss of throttle issue.
