black or red tape should be wrapped around the white wire at the panel and and in this disconnect. this identifies the wire as a power wire and not a common wire. i do commend that a disconnect is being installed. so many video on you tube about installing wiring don’t have and type of switch or disconnect near the electric hot water heater. nec code .

I'm looking for 10-2 water heater wire (or appliance whip) that has both these features: 1. solid copper wire, not stranded wire & 2. red, black and insulated green, instead of white, black and bare copper. Any online source? Also: someone commented on another video that a household 40 to 50 gallon water heater with dual 4500 Watt heating elements should more accurately/ideally be connected to a 25 AMP electric panel circuit breaker, instead of a 30 AMP breaker. Also: Siemens Model GNF221A "General Duty 30 Amp 2-Pole 2-Wire 240-Volt Non-Fusible Indoor Safety Switch" may be a bit more convenient option for a quick disconnect next to a water heater, for manually turning on/off heater only when needed.
Very well presented. I saw one DIY guy that said the white wires had to have black tape on them for NEC Code.

Put a conduit plug over the unused knockout on the side of the disconnect tub before the inspector comes.

Good description! But what box did you use. I'm unable to find a 30amp nonfused box. I see many 60amp. Can that be used?
