    Never make last minute decisions. Decided ahead of time to either stay on highway or get off highway And most important, Know what exit to get off of where you really want to go.

    Thanks, even at the age of 23 I am still very scared of driving on crowded highways. I tend to avoid interstates, even if they take me longer. I have a trip out of state coming up soon, and avoiding interstates would add potentially 40 minutes to an entire hour onto my trip time - so I have decided it is time to learn the highway driving. My biggest fears is not the highway itself, but entering it. I have studied my route beforehand and I think I will be ok, but even just thinking about it 4 days ahead of time is making me nervous.
    My biggest question was "if you are using a ramp to merge, but there is currently cars in the lane, you have to stop right?" Until you revealed the existance of "Acceleration lanes" to me. As long as no dummy is taking up that space, I can use that to comfortably get in, right? Once I get in, I should be ok. Then I should have a pretty good time jammin down the freeway.

      Important replace or add larger side mirrors to your car or truck to eliminate blind areas. Not seeing cars all of a sudden appear out of no where can have a negative effect on your confidence entering a highway. Seeing is everything seeing builds confidence seeing improves your ability to drive better seeing it allows more time to make better decisions. If the equipment attached to your car doesn't allow you to see it replace it.

      Ok to be afraid. Learn to "go toward your aprshensions ( fear) Questions is why are you afraid? In experience? Drive when the roads are not so busy. Out in the country more. I took my wife and her Philipino freinds out to a far. They can drive around the big hay bales. With an old farm truck. Learn to even drive a std. Learn to drive in the snow/ ice. As you gain exp and confidence. Bussy city freeways. And not all drivers are courteous. Learn what big trucks do. Nothing mentioned in this utube. Big trucks need more space. Cant speed up or slowdown as fast. Many driver training schools teach very little about other type of vehicles. Yet you are driving on the same roads. Perhaps this is some of your fear. 1 403 830 4124

    Actually, drivers entering the highway need to yield if they run out of space before they can merge. At least that is the traffic law in NYS.

    • @shathaomar1516
      @shathaomar1516 5 лет назад +9

      Yes, you are right. I don't know why we have to spread up when we merge into the high !! In fact, we should yield or stop till the right time to merge then we should speed up.

      It depends in most states you only yield if there is a sign, in some states you have right of way on the ramp, in states like GA it dangerous to yeild and you have to accelerate to 75 before entering traffic. The most important thing in thouse situtation is not stoping in the middle of the ramp and use all of the ramp if availble

      That's why you have side-view mirrors and rear-view mirrors. Always be actively aware of your surroundings when driving, that's the best way to stay safe while on the road. If that happens, either give way to the other person that wants your same lane and drop speed a little bit to let them pass, then change into that same lane yourself or speed up to pass that person, signal to warn, then change into desired lane. Tbh, I'd choose the former as that is the safest and LEAST reckless move of simultaneous-lane changing while on the freeway. Give way to whoever wants your lane and just let them pass before you move into that same lane. Avoid all potential conflicts/confrontations/road rages with other drivers. And keep your distance from other drivers as often as possible. Not worth the time, the gas or your life for that reckless crap. Use all mirrors, especially rear-view often too. Good luck, friend!

    I've a highway exit related question, sometimes right most lane splits into 2 heads like Y and the right head goes to exit and left one goes straight. If I'm existing then should I indicate right to take the exit? I'm confused because technically I'm not changing lane, I'm just going to the right head of the same lane.

      Theres a small section next to the right lane that is usually for pulling over in case of emergencies etc.
      The guy is saying if the acceleration lane ends and you cant merge, keep driving along that section until you're able to safely merge into the right lane.

    If your mom or dad someone knows some truck drivers. Go for some rides with some experinced driverers. The construction guys pulling some equip behind. Different vehicles are different. Learn being "over catious" is as bad as over confident. Experience is a good school. Slowing down in a merging lane NOT alwayscthe best idea. Check your mirror directly behind. If there is a heavy loaded truck. They are going be a danger if you stop or even slow down. They are pushing too trying to get up to speed. They need more space to pull into. They seem like "bullies" only because many drivers do NOT give them enough space. So even driving on the slower right hand lane is NOT always the safest. I disagree with truck co wanting the long trucks ( in Cdn 2- 53 ft trailers plus truck up front WoW 120 ft How are others that are inexperinced goingvto merge. In Cdn many hwys have 110 K ( 68 mph) speed limit A gravel road entering the hwy. Very little merging ( only the shoulder NOT always paved) Very difficult when hwy bussy. Exp drivers will in the left lane. How else is that farm truck going to enter. ( yet truck co's teach what? As a semi driver i double trailer tanker truck i would take the centre lane. Yup take thw " whole darn road" Why? If i need the left lane i " will take it" cars dont like it. Might have to slow down a little " so sorry so sad ( might need to shut their "cruise off" ) if i dont need the left lane. The other vehicle got up to speed or "dropped back" behind the my rear trailer good. I can now go back into the righthand driving lane. One owner of a semi with me to H iustonbTx and back to Cdn. Gave me yeck for trying to help merging traffic. In heavy traffic cars would be on left side beside me. I would give a small tap of air horn tryingbto warn the merging driver. Latter when drivingbby himself in Edm Ab this same driver owner of the truck totalled his pride Peterbuilt truck off. ( maybehe or some one else knows of this event) His wife later told me. As i was NO longer working with her husband. Other issues too. Dangerous safety issues etc. Blasting caps on same load as the explosives etc. BUT a imigrant other driver ( also driving truck did NOT yield as they were trying to "merge" 2 trucks and 2 drivers in hosp. Big hurry to get where? But i tried to tell him. Even in Texas just a few miles down the road Yup here's a passanger van at side of the hwy. Druver's side all scraped up. Mirror hanging dragging on the ground. Next a semi pulled over ( good thing had a paved shoulder) in Cdn truck could be stuck. Could be muddy under the gravel shoulder. Many hyws dont even have adequite shoulders. When i was teaching my wife and her Philipino freinds ( had already taken driving but very slack school ) i wanted her to give room of other vehicle on speed ramp some room. Watch if big trucks were in the lane. Once told her ( had emergency parking lane ) on the ramp. So told her pull over and stop. But why she asked. Big truck behind you needs to keep going. 2 other big very long over width loads on hwy. Just pull it over NOW. She was scared. Good need to learn.She did NOT want to drive anymore. Why? No body got hirt.No damage now drive. Put it into gear. And by the end of the ramp this car has enoughbto do 110 so get going. Peddle dow hard Now. Yes there is a time and season for everything. I dont agree of what or how the driver instructors are teaching.And that goes for the trucking schools too. My wife ( got mad a t me) still my wife. LoL still doesnt like the rather famous DEERFOOT in Calgary Ab. Lot's of her freinds avoid it too. Dont know if i really blame her. Gov polocies etc. Police at one time tried to get person to safe location. It's a safety violation. Technoly police have NO authority to be making the roads "moe dagerous" insisting the stop vehicles " immediately" Schools should be teaching ths too. I have when driving semi truck or car forced the police sometimes a long way ( only grave shoulder in sprigtime with heVy loaded semi too folow. Put my flashers on. Let police know he wanted meto stop. Later office ver upset. Let him mouth me off reprmanded me. Simply ask for his name and badge # Why he said. Because i will let the judge decide. Oh by the way we are on camers. He looke stunded. You are parked in a merging lane. I was just ahead on the shoulder. Parked beside NO parking sign. The judge can deside. He took my registarion etc back to the car. I remineded him to check my record. I will fight this in court. When he came back gave me mty lic and reg told me to have a " goid day" what BS . Tried doing aome writing about events like this etc. Maybe will do just that. So much BS . One cop got hit by truck sent cop to emergency. Yup. Same cop chewed out a freind for NOT stopping "in dagerous location" cop also an immigrant. Sorry NOT immigrant issue. Issue is if that what they do in other countries Well is it safe? We didnt do that previously here in Cdn ( nor US what i know of) so why NOW ? Its an attidude coming top down. And NOW covid masking What's nextt." Do as u are told" Really. So back to the new driver issue. Better mentoring ((not just formal driver trainingbschool) Ride with others different vehicles etc.Ask questions. Volunter get the constructions guys their coffee. Never know you could get hired.Get supples etc. Never know maybe uou will like driving that big massive oversized truck. ( not easy and lots of sometimes long hrs without much appriation) Bus drivers too . Learn dont let the fear control you. 1 403 830 4124 currently protype "emergency traction on ice" for vehicles ( semi has own aiir system) other concrete etc attachments for skidsteers etc EV too. Digitial global marketing. C U 's drive safe

    1:18 could you clarify what you mean by continue driving on the shoulder?

    • @TeenDrivingPlan
      @TeenDrivingPlan  2 года назад

      When trying to enter the highway with a shoulder (space to the right of the road typically reserved for emergency stopping only), if there is no space to merge into the travel lane and the acceleration lane ends, continue driving briefly on the shoulder until a safe space opens up. By taking extra time to accelerate and match the speed of traffic, it will be easier to merge onto the roadway when the safe space opens as opposed to stopping in the acceleration lane and trying to get into a spot from a stopped position. Please note this is a teaching tool and some states may have specific rules and regulations regarding driving on the shoulder
