    What camera bag do you use and why!?! Also I find it funny that this same pack was used by BvS in Patagonia and I didn't realize it until researching the bag online and seeing his video as top 3. Kudos bro. Then when I tell him I got one, first comment. "Oh no dude, that bag sucks!!" Hahaha.

      I just bought a similar bag, the Burton Focus Camera Backpack. It is just a bit larger, with outside pockets for water bottle, etc... and it is as convenient with a removable insert exactly like yours. Actually, it is Brandon's comments about his new bag that lead me to Burton's bags !

      I've gone to mirrorless with a Canon M6, so can manage with a smaller backpack now. The Manfrotto Advanced Active Camera Bag Backpack I works well for me, fitting in the body, the 18-55 kit lens. the 55-200 tele-zoom, the 22mm prime and the 11-22 wide zoom. In addition I have a Cokin filter system, which works nicely with the smaller form EF-M lenses, and there's room for my HP laptop and other gadgets when travelling such as headphones. Manfrotto really do make lovely gear.

    I've been eyeing this backpack for a while now, since it looks perfect for my portable desktop (SFF m-ITX fully water-cooled 360mm+240mm rads & CPU+GPU water-blocks in single loop) build (it should be 400x290x125mm when I finish it this weekend I hope).
    And the fact that I can switch and use it for my camera gear is also a bonus :D

    Every time I buy a new bag thinking "this is it!" Then everyone I run into say it's not good because of .... Let's have an update in a few months how you like it, if it holds up etc. that would be good to know- I think manfrotto would fix it if multiple people have similar issues, at least if they want to stay in business, so hopefully you'll tell us yours has had the other issues resolved and it's working great. Nellies channel is a well done first video, I think I was subscriber 23 or so, hoping to get my German back to a conversational level by watching and reading, lol.

    That's a nice, sleek-looking bag. The ability to pull the insert out is great too. That said, I can tell looking at the harness that it wouldn't be for me. For outdoor hiking and adventure, I'd need something like an F-stop Gear or Atlas pack with internal frame and more padding.
    One feature that has become make-or-break for any new pack I buy is side access. Now that I've gotten used to it I'll never go back. My current travel pack for more urban adventures in places like India is the WANDRD PRVKE 21. It is a little more of a hybrid travel pack w/ side access to gear, expandable top, and great aesthetics. I've never found a bag I've liked better-though I wouldn't take it trekking.

    Hi Greg I use the Ikigai Rival Medium Bag, it has also a removable compartment bag for the Camera. Lenses etc. and a separate space for the laptop, several pockets and detachable tripod holder. This was my first camera bag purchase and must say has proven to be durable and comfortable during several hikes. Unfortunately the company seemed to have gone belly-up........good news is that you can pick this bag up for discounted prizes from Euro 229,- for Euro 79,-!

    How confortable is this bag to wear on say an extended hike or climb.Will the mide staps go around a generous waist lime or the staps go over a broad shoulders.. More inportant does it sit higher up on the shoulders or down in the small of the bag as weight gets heavier the more you walk with it.
    The lining that goes to your back..is it in breatheable fabric ,so you dont end up with a wet back from sweat?

    • @gregorsnell

      Hi Paul all great questions. So far I haven't tested it on a big walk, but I did do a full day cycling mission. It was sweaty on the back for sure. Also I have it bottom weighted so the waist straps are key and they held up well. So far so good.

    • @gregorsnell

      Hi Pete. The flap in the middle is to separate the upper and bottom middle compartments of the insert. It can be changed but works well to separate my mirrorless. The mesh cover I fold up and tuck it under the bottom of the insert. Link to Nellie's channel is in the end screen of this video.

    Pictures show a bottle holder? For me a pack I plan to take on a hike needs to have that feature. Also what about the padding and straps? Comfortable? Obviously, time will tell on the wear and tear, Manfroto is a great name and makes great tripods... but could their backpack be like HP Laptops? (IT people get the joke) and ummm... why no German subtitles? I suspect this will become a thing and could radically increase viewership.

    • @gregorsnell
      @gregorsnell  6 лет назад +1

      Scott Jung Scott!! Yes it has a side bottle holder. Straps are good. I’ve been testing it cycling in Italy and hiking in Greece and so far so good. Good question Wayne. It depends. I often try not to take everything out and see if it goes through first time. It's 50/50. If they ask for it to go back so be it, but often they know it's camera gear and are fine with an easy second go about.

    Great video Mr Snell, I do have to disagree with you. I think that I manfrotto made this great camera bag but is too fragile. I have a copy of this bag and after one week of use the back zipper gave up on me. Don't get me wrong I love the design but the quality is not there it felt cheap. If we as customers are spending $150-200 for a camera bag then the manufacturer has the responsibility of producing a product that is made with quality over quantity. Great video overall.

    Nice demo. 50L seems big for a carry-on, but you travel a lot more than I. Didn't your last bag have wheels? Won't you miss that feature? I think BvS dumped his Manfrotto for a Burton, as I recall, but who can keep track. Looking forward to the Crete content. Is this a job? Rock on!

    • @gregorsnell

      Hey nice one!! Yeah my last carry on Osprey pack was a convertible with wheels. It was nice but extremely uncomfortable to wear as a backpack especially for bigger journeys. BvS did dump this exact bag for a Burton. We chatted on that in depth yesterday. Finding the perfect solution (especially carry on) with all the gear I currently have is tough, but I'm happy with the decision of going with this bag for now.

    Don't want to rain on your parade but... I had that manfrotto bag for about 2 months while I started traveling non stop, 4 months ago, the bag is great really loved it at first... But then I started to see how weak it was, the bag is not great for heavy pro gear like you have (so do I). It started to rip apart close to the shoulder strap, which was a big no no for me, it was also very uncomfortable on longer walks. Also I couldn't stand to have to always have the 70-200 on the body to fit all my stuff in the bag. Anyway long story short I got my self a mindshift backlight 36l. Which IMO is such a superior camera bag, much bigger yes, and gets more attention when getting on a plane or bus, but so much more room that I have space for my 70-200, whether it's on the body or not and I don't need to play Tetris every time I pick up the camera. Also all the straps are so much more comfortable and there's more adjustments. It is more expensive but you can easily see why. I hope, I think it will, last much much longer than the manfrotto.

    • @gregorsnell
      @gregorsnell  6 лет назад

      Dude great comment and I appreciate your story. Don't you find a 36L too small? I'm barely getting by with the 50L Mover plus my other carry on piece. It works, but it's tight. Good call on the straps, I'll have to watch them for sure.

    • @Cassetrop
      @Cassetrop 6 лет назад +2

      @@gregorsnell the 50 on that model name surely doesn't stand for 50 liters capacity because my 36 liters is much bigger and fits much more stuff. Compare your bag to a 50l backpacker hiking bag and you'll see it doesn't make sense (also if you check the outside dimensions of both bags it doesn't make sense the manfrotto is much smaller). In the mindshift 36l camera compartment I can fit easily all the stuff you mention and still have room for a spare place for my 70-200 in case I don't want it on the body. And then there's 11 liters in front for the laptop and much more stuff like a jacket, food etc and two big side pockets for water and tripod if you want if on the side. I can send you pictures on Facebook messenger if you want to see.

    Nice review... I tried the Monfrotto Manhattan Mover 50 while also evaluating the Monfrotto Advanced Travel Backpack, and decided on the Monfrotto Advanced Travel Backpack. It was a difficult choice between the two, but decided the Advanced Travel backpack fit better under a plane seat as a carry on. Unfortunately, after extended use... I had to fall back to Lowepro's camera packing system over the Monfrotto.
    Monfrotto simply did not hold up to the outdoor wear and tear compared to the Lowe's bags I have used. The trade off is that Lowepro backpacks are heavier but provide better support, comfort and durability. Don't get me wrong, I like both the Monfrotto and Lowepro backpacks... but, for different reasons. The square designed Monfrotto is better for airplane travel (i.e., tourist-like travel) but less than optimal in the field.... The Lowepro is the opposite. The Lowpro's thicker shoulder straps, hefty waist belts and numerous add-on options makes the Lowepro more versatile and useful in tough outdoor environments. They both compartmentalize differently and each method has it's advantages and disadvantages.
    In the end, ...after trying dozens of different backpacks over the past decades... Lowepro backpack system seems to be most consistent in it's performance...but, the new comer - Monfrotto has definitely pushed the envelope in camera pack design. Who knows? Someday... there may be a Low-frotto bag that can have the best of both worlds. :)

    • @joemoya9743
      @joemoya9743 6 лет назад +1

      BTW... one reason I went back to the Lowepro is that the Monfrotto's backside entry can't effectively do what the Lowepro's backside entry can do ( Lowepro calls it "flipside" opening). The Lowpro lets you use the backpack like a working table and (in theory) the Monfrotto should be able to do something similar. Unfortunately, the Monfrotto waist belt is far to thin/flimsy to hold the bag as a platform to work your camera. In effect, Monfrotto diluted one of the key advantages to a backside entry. The Monfrotto doesn't allow the pack to work like a table and avoid having to lay the bag down in muddy/wet conditions. Similar to the Lowepro, the Monfrotto has the potential of being useful as a working platform ... but the design of belt hinders the use of the Monfrotto in this way.
      This link shows a photo of what the Monfrotto can not do very easily. While the Lowpro does it very well. An advantage I find very useful - at times. (Lowepro flipside is shown in link)

      @@erisferra I have never used the Monfrotto mover 30. However, looking at it specs and videos, it appears to be good choice for everyday use or carry-on travel. However, the divided top section access from the body limit it's storage arraignment flexibility in exchange for more access options. Also, this is not a bag I would check compared to the Lowe Pro bags. The location of the laptop in the large outer pocket would make it very susceptible to being broke if stored for air travel since it almost impossible to not have some lumps that would act like a pressure point on any laptop.
