I May be a millenial, practically gen z because I was born in 98, but the 3 Stooges was a big part of my childhood and I’m glad I have nostalgia for them as every generation has before me
I'm an 18 year old but I have an appreciation for the things that came from older generations. My animation teacher just showed this episode and I found it pretty funny and entertaining 😂 I love how exaggerated everything was and I feel like the comedic timing was perfect!
They dressed decently, feminine and beautiful. Tight dresses with high hems showing a lot of leg and rear gives me the impression that the ladies of today are not like the ladies of the past.
The phone booth scene is definitely one of the greatest moments. Seen it countless times thanks to this episode becoming public domain and it STILL cracks me up.
This is my all time favorite Three Stooges short, have watched it many times. Three Stooges used to play on Saturday afternoon TV when I was a child. Always loved them.
In one of his books about the stooges. Mow Howard said that in the scene where Christine works Shemp over and knocks him thru the door was probably one of the best timed stunts that was ever pulled in all of their films. He said it couldn't have been timed any better, it was perfect.
The beginning with Shemp Larry and that lady is one of the funniest moments ever. When Larry starts snoring and Shemps reaction lol, and also when Larry is hitting all the keys at once on the keyboard and Shemp jumps and then turns around to the lady and is shocked and scared😂😂
"But you turned me down...." "That was before I read the paper...NOW I ACCEPT...LET HER RIP TOOTS!!!!!" ROFL. Best Shemp EVA and a top five Stooge short easy. Not only were the boys fantastic, but the performances by Dee Green, Christine McIntyre, Emil Sitka and Doris Colleen were fantastic also. I'll watch this short once a week for the rest of my life. HAHAHAHAHAHA.
This is simply the funniest Three Stooges in my opinion. While most people love Curly, I often believe Shemp was the funniest character of all of them.
11:34 - SHEMP: "Your little dream-boat is sailing! Ooo-Oooo!" That had to be a Shemp ad-lib. Edward Bernds (director) would let all the Stooges contribute ideas to the shorts, and according to Bernds, Shemp was non-stop in thinking up bits of business and eVERYTHING he did was funny.
@TM I remember many years ago when I was growing up in Brooklyn how it was said that critics did not like the Stooges at all. The only one of the group who had been appreciated was Shemp, especially in this episode. Shemp was known for being a perfectionist and he would insist on re-shooting a scene if he felt it was not quite right. It was said, for example, that he insisted that the slapping scene be shot again since he felt that Miss McIntyre did not appear to do it correctly. Then, she followed his instructions and actually struck him - she did it so strongly that it left him dizzy! Yes, Shemp was special. Very unique in his great comedy work.
Most of the stooges (Moe, Larry, curly and Shimp) was given a script, they would read it, and half the shots was add-in, mostly fro shrimp an Curly. They 4 orginal stooges where genius at their craft. No one was safe from the slap stick stuff they did. Hitler, Japanese, Irish, doctors, lawyers, and the list goes on and on..
Delores "Dee" Green was my chorus teacher at Peoria Heights Grade School. Probably from about 1965 to 1967. There was even a write-up in the local paper about her "Stooge connection". She was a beautiful person.
Especially the teacher part. We even, in the short itself, hear (against) in the Stooges series, Mendelssohn's VOICES OF SPRING a la MICRO-PHONIES when Christine McIntyre memorably to so many of us sang it!
I have watched these guys since I was 10 years Young In 1961. They never stop being funny & Entertaining, Enjoy It all, This Includes all The Young people. It's Great Fun!

I love how in Shemp’s shorts, he’s always called a kid and is generally treated as the youngest of the group even though in real life, he was older than all of them.
Shemp's finest hour. I actually don't think this short would have worked as well with Curly playing the groom case in point the scene with the woman repulsed by Shemp. Women loved Curly.
IDK, I think you could've pulled off an "ugly" character role with Curly, but Shemp definitely sold this for sure. To say he was hilarious is an understatement. I laugh so hard at him, I get the wind knocked out of me. 🤣

One of my favorite shorts. The woman who Shemp is giving singing lessons to is Dee Green. I still laugh my a*s off at the beginning of this. They should do a little biography of all these funny ladies. Love the Stooges.😆😂
The beauty of watching TTS is just after you've watched them all over and over and then don't watch them for a while and start watching them again, you catch something you never realized earlier. Case in point is this episode. From 12:25-12:36, what a quick, funny line by Shemp I never picked up on after watching this episode countless times! Hilarious.
When I watched this, the piano scene had me cracking up! I couldn’t stop laughing at the part when the ring fell in the piano making that hilarious out-of-tune sound 😂
shemp was hurt in that particular scene when Christine threw her punch, she leaned too far into it, and hit Shemp for real and broke his nose. This mistake was left in the film, and when watched in slow motion, Shemp can be seen falling down and opening his mouth like he was yelling in pain after the punch. When the take was over, Shemp was groggy, really groggy. His nose was broken. Chris put her arms around him and apologized tearfully. "It's alright, honey," Shemp said painfully. "I said you should cut loose and you did. You sure as hell did!
That's awesome. He seems like such a stand up guy. He only came back when Curly (his brother, for those who don't know) had a stroke and couldn't play the part.
Interesting fact about this episode. Christine McIntyre was scared to slap Shemp during the cousin Basil scene afraid she would hurt him so after take after take, Shemp told her "look just go on one good time and slap the hell outta me and get it over with". So she did over and over and knocked him smooth out cold!! Then she started crying afterwards and Shemp said well I told you to do it. And there was that slap scene.Pretty interesting huh?

Sure we all consider the Moe-Larry-Curly line up to be the definitive Stooges line-up but this may be the greatest Stooges short ever! Virtually every scene is hilarious and legendary. (Though A Plumbing We Will Go is a close second)
I believe it platecrumb, Christine was gorgeous and she could really punch like Mike Tyson, in Punch Cowpunchers she knocks out four tough cowboys with just one punch each, the last punch was so powerful it knocked the cowboy five feat into the air, what a woman!
Larry biting his nails and spitting them during the phone booth scene. The shaving scene had me in tears: Larry cringing when Shemp is practically ripping his face off with the straight razor. Moe chasing him around trying to hem his pants. 😂😂🤣🤣
One thing I noticed as a kid, was that the sound effects were excellent in Shemp episodes..not just the slaps and hair pulling, but everything..the scraping of the straight razor...the rotary dial, the piano wires...The director of this episode, Bernes, was originally the sound effects editor, and he really poured it on!
In the scene where Christine mistakes Shemp for cousin Basil, they did a few unsatisfactory takes of the fight with Christine holding back. Shemp finally said "Chris, just let me have it. I can take it". The final punch was real!
The 3 Stooges: the best cure for modern depression. These guys were truly funny and Shemp was great.

"Oh boy, success!" "Yeah listen to those kisses." "Cut it out!" Smack!
😂😂😂😂😂
One of the great scenes of all time!
Gargle with old razor blades! ROTFL!!

Ahhh...Spending an afternoon binge watching the 3 Stooges. Nothing like it.
The broken wire bit was hilarious when it hit Moe
Probably my second favorite Stooges episode next to Disorder In The Court ! !

Shemp was always my favorite.
"He's my little dream boat"
"Well your little dream boat is sailing"
+NERFMercenary807 "WOOOHHH WOOOOOHH!!"
In the scene where Christine mistakes Shemp for cousin Basil, they did a few unsatisfactory takes of the fight with Christine holding back. Shemp finally said "Chris, just let me have it. I can take it". The final punch was real!
And, the phone booth scene-a classic of comedy of whatever age.
