Dude, I've played Keyboards for a few fews now. Watching you and what you can legit do on a Drum kit? Y'all just about rearranged my entire way of thinking.... Y'all got some really sick licks on Drums Dude... Wish I could do what you do... Kudos...
Warm up is very important. Many gigs i played were those 4-7 band shows with hardly anytime to warm up. Didnt bother me in my 20's....but it catches up to you later in life. My joints are a mess...moral of the story. Kids....... Follow this mans instructions AND have fun. Well done my friend, you are amazing. 🤘
This is a great exercise for all drum types. I can keep up until 16th notes, I am not at that quality, consistency and speed yet 😆 Thanks for posting 🤘
Does slapping practice on boobies and buttcheeks count? Seriously though, I need to do this fundamental practicing with my feet, that timing/ coordination is WAY worst than my hands.
I enjoyed taking ‘roll strolls’ when I marched competitively. It’s either a duple or triplet based roll, while marching around the football field track for a mile. Or.. just set a timer for ten minutes and see if you can play a clean, eviscerating, saw you in half roll without any dirt in there. :)
Love this exercise, I saw it in Derek Roddys Evolution of Blast beats, and it fucking works lol. Literally this, then same with feet, then in unison. Improve speed and stamina and has been my go speed/blast beat advice when I talk to people. Glad to see you doing and showing it to more people ☺️☺️
ok 10 times watching this is enough. it's mesmerising for some reason. I aspire to grow my hair this long. I've been growing since before the pandemic and it's not even half this long . another 4 years should do it
When I was a music instructor I encouraged them to add accents! I also think it makes it way more fun. Straight up rudiments can get tiresome quickly. You can use this for way more than just wanting up metal! Love your content Samus!
@@66Samus no problem man - much deserved - I really like you use electric because you are showing what’s possible with them- especially the technical hard hitting double bass and ungodly fast fills - I started to love drums just building the damn electric sets so my playing ability is far behind the knowledge of how they work - if that makes sense - I just built a kit so we practicing. I am going to go and do what you did and get a complete double bass setup instead of the dual pedal - I can’t get the triggering right for some reason
Hey man, thanks, I'm hopeless on the drums and I got a pad a couple of years ago just to have one thing to focus on. I'm at a point right now with other instruments where I have the patience for repetitive practice and this warm up looks exactly like the thing I needed for drumming.
I'm a lifelong musician who is just now introducing drums. The amount that it's helping my song writing can not be overstated. It's changing my music big time
I was waiting for the OH YURRR at the end. You had the face on, but I was let down. Great work!! I’m going to try this out to improve my left hand and get it up to speed.
I used to take drum lessons. I'd completely forgotten how much it used to kill my forearms... until I watched this video. I can feel the burn just by watching this. It gets less severe over time, in part because the muscles get stronger and also the muscle memory develops to more efficiently use the rebound energy. But I didn't practice enough.
Good things to practice too are keeping your tasset hand steady and low so it’s ready to play. If you’re already playing well but you want to be even just a little faster, being more efficient with where your hands are in between stuff make a huge difference.
I remember when I was on drumline in middle and high school early 00s we had an extremely similar warmup, we called it Eighths. Basically what you did here, 8L 8R x2, then did 16th notes and also included paradiddles, flams, flamadiddles. Good times.
To add to the 16th notes you can do, what my HS perc. director called, moving the grid. Basically while you're playing the 16th notes, accent every down beat for 2 measures, then accent the second 16th note for every beat, then the third(eighth note/upbeat) then the fourth, and then just repeat once or twice, making sure your tempo is rock solid. Really good for exercising your inner metronome and making sure you stay on beat even when you're playing syncopated rhythms that don't land on 2 & 4 like standard drum patterns usually do.
This is the practice and discipline I never had with drums. I’ve been playing nearly 30 years. Music was a passion now I regret putting as much time towards it as I did.
Oooo this is very much like the Stone Killer exercise! I like to play it through with only my wrists then do it a second time with only my fingers to isolate the muscles then play some rudiments slow to fast to slow to sync them all together. Good stuff man! It works!
I'm originally a guitarist, but sometimes I just sit down to my brother's drum set and play songs, or just try something i saw in your videos. Or just for fun. I need to do this kind of things on guitar, beacuse i want to be a great (maybe the best) guitarist in Hungary. So thats it.
I use my practice pad as a temple for getting in the zone. I love noodling, metronomic practice, anything and everything that has to do with the drums! 🤘😈🤘
A good drummer is a treasure. I had my own band when I was a teenager and I had a really badass drummer but she nearly died from a speed overdose and we haven't played together since.
I like to do this as on one's, two's, three's - through - sixteenths. Alternating between both hands and isolating each hand. (Example) Left right left right on two's then left left left left, right right right right. Then onto triplets and so forth.
You can also try this with your feet :)
Tried it with my feet. But i cant hold the sticks with my toes .
The accented section sounded sick as fuck, I gotta get that down
Oh yurr..
Where did you get this drum pad and stand from?
@@burningbelow4424 I'm pretty sure he's using a circular stool style drum throne as a stand
Not a metal drummer but I’ve been using this exercise for 30 years. It works.
👌
May I ask what you were using this exercise for
Drummers are fuckin' amazing. As a guitar player I can pretty much guarantee you I would not have the stamina for that if I could even do it at all.
much appreciated! as a drummer myself, it takes lots practice and determination.
@@jameslabriola8761 Yes it for sure does
As a drummer I don't either
you can do it with good technique. It's not super tiring
well you can build up stamina
There's is no one's facial expressions I love more than 66. He always brings a huge smile to my day. Love ya dude!!
thank you so much dude!!
I'm becoming a drummer and dude, it's all your fault!
😍
I don't there's anything he'd rather hear😂
bruh I'm quitting drumming and it's all his fault 💀
wait.. you were a woman before? 😳
I need a set of sticks again I found my old Offworld drum pad from being in marching band 10 years ago haha
At the end I thought: He didn't say...

I have zero hand / foot coordination, so mad respect to all drummers out there. Keep drumming, there simply isn't enough of you.
