For all his celebrity and hype that came with that, Beckham was the greatest crosser and set piece taker of his generation. There are so many ‘wingers’ now who are pacey but cannot for the life of them beat their man with a cross. Beckham literally just bent it round them with ease

I think Beckham and Galactico era football was the moment we saw people supporting players more than teams itself. The team loyalty doesn't exist outside the country itself but loyalty to a player is very strong (example: people who support Ronaldo from United to Madrid and now Juventus). "Didn't create history" I'm not one of those guys who put him above Messi and Cristiano in terms of greatness, but saying his legacy is nothing but fans' respect and good moments is too much.
Ronaldinho is the main responsible for starting the "Barcelona era". Other great players had player for the club but Barcelona never took that next step with them. But with Ronaldinho and internet's growth, Barcelona started to be recognized as a top tier club despite only having 2 Champions League titles and being much behind Real Madrid in domestic success. After Pep arrived and Messi peaked, the rest is history.
Barcelona is a now a synonym for beautiful football and also considered one of the greatest clubs in the world, despite its relatively recent success (which is something that prevents people from saying Chelsea and City are top clubs in England, for instance). Ronaldinho was the guy who will always be remembered as that turning point.

Aye. And don't forget that Makélélé then became the lynchpin of Mourinho's 2005 PL winning Chelsea side after he left Real; he was an absolute beast that season. Ronaldo revealed his dream was to play for Madrid, his mum also doesnt like England as much as Spain and Ronaldo loves his mum alot. David Beckham has played for some of the best clubs in the world. From united , real madrid, ac milan and retired at PSG. Also played for la galaxy at the MLS. His career spanned for 21 years from 1992-2013.
According to sir alex Ferguson, “ David Beckham is England's finest striker of football not because of god gifted talent but because he practices with relentless application that the vast majority of less gifted players wouldn't contemplate”
David Beckham is a graduate of saf's manchester united which believes in the hard-working approach of mastering the technique and acquiring skills. It was known that Beckham would practice his free-kick for hours after the training session, no wonder why his free-kick were difficult to stop. He is not just the best free-kick taker but also the best crosser this game has ever seen. Van nistelrooy or raul would tell about his pin-point accurate crosses. He was also a great passer and could make the killer passer to create a scoring opportunity. He was also a good dribbler , especially in 1v1 situations.
Beckham is no paul scholes who can dictate the gameplay. He’s no Keane or viera in making those tough tackles. He’s no makalele or kante that are ball-winners.He's no zidane or ozil who has a great ball-control and a godly first touch. He's no xavi or iniesta in building the game. He's no pirlo who can transition the game from defense to offense in no time. Beckham has literally practiced the basics of the game and mastered it. He knows the art of when to pass, when to shoot and when to dribble. He's no ball-hogger like Cristiano Ronaldo or neymar. The success of david Beckham is solely based on his pure hard work. His career made people believe that there's no shortcut and to reach the peak one must do immense hardwork and dedicate himself 100% into the job.
According to George best, “ he can't kick with his left foot, he can't head, he can't tackle and he doesn't score many goals and apart from that he's alright”. This pretty much summed Beckham's style of play. He has a great right foot that can make pin-point crosses and precise passes which might look easy but is very difficult to master. A set-piece expert with a bending free kicks difficult to stop for gk's. Many tried to “bend it like Beckham” but none were like his. Beckham is appreciated for his work-rate and longevity in his career. Despite achieving a lot in his career , sir alex believes Beckham could've been the best player or a better player than he actually was. He also ended up as the runner-up in both ballon d or and fifa world player of the year award in 1999.
David Beckham is surely one of the best players of this game , not the finest. But on his day ,Beckham would surely outclass the best. According to Beckham, “ I just want people to know me as a hardworking footballer and someone who is passionate about the game”.
Finally, it is a pity that his celebrity status overshadowed his fantastic football career. He's more than just a shirt-selling player. He made many people to follow football . A global superstar david Beckham is surely the icon of modern football. His legacy would never be matched by any in the upcoming years.

I grew up living near Beckham, and used to knock on his door after school on a regular basis...the guy was so nice to me and my friend, even recognised us after a few visits and joked saying "I hope you're not selling these at school". He was United through and through, and he never wanted to leave.
The Bye Bye Becks VHS was heartbreaking. He literally said, when he was told he was going, he was in tears for days. Obviously, he went on to great things but it's so sad that he was (and still is) probably the biggest United fan in the world and, if it were up to him, I doubt he'd ever have left United.

One weird thing I've just been thinking over is that though he often romanticised staying humble, working hard, being all for the club and not for oneself, Ferguson always seemed to prefer the glamorous starboys like Ronaldo and Beckham. The only humble guy he gave a break to was Scholes, who was indispensable anyway. Maybe this is a lesson in that while humility is a grace, it's not to be shoved down the throat as better for the career than confidence.

Another random fact. DB started on the bench against Real M, but Sebastian Veron started the game; but no one had seen him because he had been injured for like 3 months and hadn't even played 90mins yet. So Ferguson trusted an unfit mismatch for the team over DB against RMadrid🤔

Football is The Beautiful Game - and there are fewer images as aesthetically pleasing as David Beckham just before he strikes a dead ball. Left arm extended, upper body leaning back, standing foot firmly planted while that golden right came in to hit the ball at just the right place with the right pace, power and precision in harmonious concert. It was a complex physics equation of multiple variables being solved in seconds with one swing of the boot. It was a technique I studied for hours and hours attempting to replicate, not only because this was the premier set-piece expert in the world but because it looked like poetry in motion. I don't know if I'm right in saying this but it seems the modern game is bereft of free kick virtuosos, players who could put the fear of God in opponents when a foul was given. So maybe that's why Beckham has always been special to me. He didn't just deliver the goods - he did it in a way that just looked so damn beautiful.
An absolutely underrated player whose work ethic, vision and technical skills were overshadowed by the Megastar that he became - I can't think of many who rival his crossover appeal apart from the man who inherited the No.7 at Old Trafford. But above all, a player synonymous with pinpoint accuracy on the ball. You have the Roberto Carlos shuffle, the Ronaldo power stance, the casual Pirlo step-up among others - but I would take Bend it like Beckham's graceful technique any day of the week.

Not really in relation to the video, but my thoughts on Becks leaving United when he did: Of our midfield which consisted of Giggs, Scholes, Keane and Becks, Becks was easily the most replaceable. Keane was great but unfortunately his body broke down by 33, Giggs and Scholes, especially Giggs, possessed superior footballing intelligence which allowed them to reinvent themselves into completely different players (once their physical attributes had diminished) and played elite level football well into ages they had no right to. Of the 4, and if 1 had to leave, Becks leaving was definitely the best choice.

Hold up. Giggs is, at least, a couple of levels above Becks. There's a reason Fergie said he only coached 4 truly world-class players, and those four were Ronaldo, Giggs, Scholes and Cantona.
IMO I'd think a level below that you'd find your 'amazing players' like Schmeichel, Ruud, Van Persie, Van de Sar, Rooney, Keane, Rio, Irwin etc, and then another level below that you'd find your 'great players' like Becks, Ole, Vidic, Gary, Teddy, Cole, Yorke etc, and then come the 'very good players' like Nani, Park, Pallister, Bruce, Phil, Butt etc.

I think he's the best English player of the last 3 decades, but he arrived to the biggest club in the world at a time of great football uncertainty.
