If you don’t like watching equipped (single-ply/multi-ply) meets then don’t watch them, go watch a raw meet. Equipped meets and equipped focused federations have different rules especially the WPO where squat depth is basically only parallel. The gear does not do everything for the lifter, it gives extra support for joints and muscles while also giving the lifter compression for elastic energy to be stored at the bottom of each motion in order to HELP give CARRYOVER from raw strength too raw strength while wearing gear. The gear is made so tight that it’s hard to get the bar down while wearing it which makes equipped lifting a reputation for big weight and big dudes. A perfect example of the gear not doing everything for the lifter is when the lifter really fights for a good lift and it’s extremely slow on the way up which basically means once you get past the hole there is a sticking point for some people. The gear can only add so much weight to your lifts and it all depends on your anatomy, raw strength, and comfortability in the gear. You can’t just throw a bench shirt on and magically just add 100lbs to your bench. It takes time and major practice to get good in gear, also, you need a ton of raw strength just to even hold some of this kind of weight. Stop hating on equipped lifting!!! Most people that hate on equipped lifting know for a fact that they can’t even imagine lifting that much. A good raw squat + a ton of practice with gear + being comfortable in gear + proper form & technique = a good equipped squat.

I don’t think most of the ultra negative commenters here are very objective (basically all the depth hawks). There were many squats that were red lighted for depth or only getting 2 whites. Seems like more some kind of personal vendetta or just getting shots in for their team. I watched it live and thoroughly enjoyed it. Joe Stein I found very impressive. I do feel the marketing of this even was a little off. Too gear focused and stuck in the past. Not on the lifters exceptional lifters or their accomplishments. My only other criticism would be that they could have gone a bit further on enforcing professionalism, I noticed they were making people take hats off. But the holes in the singlets were sort of trashy looking, also the use of profanity was not so good either, especially on TV. As far as enjoying the event from a spectators POV they could have done a better job of covering the rankings in real time. It was hard to follow with how frequently they showed the rankings. Last, could have made sure the squats had a dedicated side view on squats even a picture in picture. Thanks for posting!

If you're not looking at the lifter from a side view, it's very difficult to judge if they hit depth. Unless the lifter goes ass to grass, you won't be able to tell from a front view.

@@flippino35 I'm aware of the 2 training crews and i have seen the movie. Just seems odd that at their biggest meet they weren't representing their gym, like all the other competitors were.
I heard he was kicked out of Westside
Grave Flower Hoff and the entire night crew left westside
@@abcdefghijklmno3764 really ? Any idea what happened ?
worldpowerliftingcongress.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/WPC_Rule_Book_Official_2014.pdf
Upon receiving the head referee’s signal, the lifter must bend the knees and lower
the body until the top surface of the legs at the hip joint are lower than the top of
knees.
Refer to the WPC rule book, as they are the same.

reading some of the comments i will address ignorant opinons.
1.the gear gives the lifter carryover it does not do the lift for them.
2.full depth needs 3 green lights
3.if you want to see raw lifting watch a raw event or watch them train raw 90% of the time in the gym
4.dont comment on lifting videos because the majority who commented below are idiots
Facts!!!!!
Agree
I like how the little guy has his bitches carry him off stage I hope I get there one day
I was a single ply lifter in the late 90's. This sport has become an absurd circus. Squatting 800 equipped , but only 550 raw tells me your EQUIPMENT is doing the lift, not you.
I sort of agree with you, but also think how long someones career would last if they were regularly lifting those types of poundages.
I’m sorry but the equipment does not do everything for them
@@llleerrooyy Good point . But more importantly , when you can squat more than 135 ... you can comment .
Samuel Clemons well I do so
Pole vaulting 2m but only high jumping 1m tells me the pole is doing the jump for you!
DAVE HOFF THE BEST !!!!!!!
Why can’t the IPF have spotters like this?
daMN THAT 1270 SQUAT WAS INSANITY
With all this Gear, will the WPO let me use bands instead 🤔 If I squat 1/2" lower 🙃
HOFF THE BEST
14:50 only decent squat I’ve seen so far
Fuckin A. that is the BEGINNING STANDARD. Chuck V. would be the ULTIMATE depth standard as far as depth with squat suits. HEY!... I powerlift, and to those who want to question my creds, so be it, but since i have my ass in the grass, i can have a say. Almost all these squats are high as Bob Marley on his birthday.
SNAKE DIET LARRY'S POWER LIFTING CHANNEL it’s always equipped lifters that squat high for some reason n seem to get away with it 90% of the time. it’s frustrating to watch
@@Chiefthain I AGREE... it's garbage. Blaine Sumner and Andrei Konovalov just got done with the BATTLE OF THE FUCKING 2010's and the squats were 9000 times heavier and depth was ferociously deeper than even the best lifters here. But then again, what the FUK do they the WPO listers cafe about my opinion... why should they care...?records are records. I just have little respect for people taking a pharmacy of dope, wearing a 6 ply suit, and not having the pride to take that shit deep. Vogelphol depth meets IPA to APF to UPA to USAPL to WPO. I watch this shit to see if they are stepping up, and they disappoint year after year. they know where the hip socket is... hold these lifters accountable!
IPF and USAPL POWERLIFTING: A MASTER'S CHANNEL 2-ply suit with 1 to 2-ply briefs and no drugs my guy. Your blowing this way out of poportion.
If you're not looking at the lifter from a side view, it's very difficult to judge if they hit depth. Unless the lifter goes ass to grass, you won't be able to tell from a front view.
You can still tell when people aren’t even near depth from the front
1:06:13 example
You are right. Sometimes it's obvious that the squat was high. What I'm referring to is when you can't tell from the front view but when you look from the side its at parallel.
American Powerlifter ya well no shit, it was red lighted lmao 🤦🏼♂️

Multi ply is back!
no it's not lol
@@jgjjgwfdzj4046 WPO on espn would beg to differ.
Hell yeah brother
depth at this is like religion everybody has a diffrent opinion
Livestronger yup
Dave hoff: You gotta want that Shit!! 😈
Donnie is natural at commentating with a outstanding voice but I feel like he winged this a bit assuming everyone had a lot of powerlifting experience. But it’s on espn and hoping to gain new viewers etc. as well as folk who have lifted for many years but don’t know the finer rules and regulations of the sport.
The lack of depth in some of these "squats" is appalling.
50:39 LOL
Half squats, touch n go benches and soft lockout deads. Nice
u said it ! how can ppl take this serious? no offence
Shut up
Ha ha a BAM BAM BIGELOW wannabe at 2:20:52 !!!!!
Yeees!!
Nice
Dont like the lifting but this is great production.
Effinger got so many good squats out there idk what’s going on with the light
Donnie!
Why is Hoff's face all gray looking ???
All these squats are high
Squat was pretty good to see but that bench shirt shit needs to go, explosion is everything and shit fighting you is not a good idea period.
Solid AF.
Koch Turnpike
Not one deep squat.
What the fuck is the point of an overhead view when viewing a slow-mo of a lift that didn't reach depth.
Those are some of the widest squat stances Ive ever seen...
Using a monolift with strapped knees and more weight is not safer than raw with knee sleeves and a walkout.
I think it’s just safer because of the multiply squat suits lol I bet half the time they would fall down trying to walk shit out in those things
We need side shots to see the hip crease please damn it! @#$%
Karlie Stravenue
Dave hoff the G.O.A.T
I’m glad for WPO come back but squat depths are abysmal. You see why raw has taken over
- i though Dave Hoff was the first to 3000 total
anonymous what ? No...
anonymous the power lifter not the actor
Donne Thompson totalled 3000 first then Dave did 3005 at the 2013(?) Westside invitational
What did I just watch? It definitely wasn’t powerlifting
0:05 *Kai Greene* off cycle😁
Mittie Plaza
Brown Jason Young Margaret Jones Jennifer
This is why powerlifting has a bad rep
Theyre not squatting even pararrel
God this is all trash, equipped lifting needs to go away forever.
Not a single lift was completed here.
Up the weight so the shirt can work better.....yeah this shit is trash if it isn't raw then it is trash. Let's see who has the strongest rubber band lol
@@MonsterM0E420 scott mendelson did this in a video, looked about to die and blamed his shit on his spotters, with blocks. Used to be a great bencher. Can't let go and refused to rehab lost everything
Quit your whining
The judges most be blind
1st guy tried a 1/4 squat? Wtf is going on here. All that equipment for a 5 inch squat attempt?
Still waiting to see a real squat
No reps were done that day
Not one competitor, not even one got any squats below parallel. This makes powerlifting just look so stupid.👎Over the years the judging has just gotten worse and worse. Soon the lifter will only have to set up stand there for two seconds then re rack the weight and they will Automatically get three white lights. That’s how stupid this sport is becoming.
Thompson is genuinely a nice guy and first person to total over 3000.
ESPN really covered this,,,these people haven't squatted legal yet. I would like to see what they can really squat w no equipment and legal depth. Bizarre
There is less than 500 people worldwide in multi ply. The TV spot should go to a raw competition.
where did you even find that number lmao? both 2020 and 2021 had over 1000 lifters worldwide; pre covid in 2019 there was over 2300.
Nice half squats
Race Bannon stfu
Anthony Oliveira at 2h48min One judge thoughts its ok lol wtf is this funny business. Some of these lifts should be seen on gym bloopers.
If they aren’t going to judge depth by the rules they have written they should redefine depth. I get you can’t hit full depth in a suit, or barely touch your chest in a bench shirt, but if you’re going to use that shit don’t just ignore your rules, rewrite them so it has some legitimacy
Use that Gear lol gooooooooo
Why so many reds? The fucking squat depth disgusting smfh
