Something about that srv strat. Theirs something really humbling about John playing a guitar he bought when he was like 18 and to music school with took around around the world once he made it big. It’s absolutely not his main guitar anymore but every time he picks it up it’s a treat.
If anyone saw the backstage tour Ustream thing he put out, you would know that the tags on those pants were taken off around an hour before he went on stage and were selected from a large selection of the "greatest plaids known to man" hahha
Was there for this and in 2008 too!! I guess this song really works--the rain wasn't that bad at either show!! Have always loved this song and love that it's written about 9/11. Was also sooooooo happy to hear Clarity live--another favorite!!!
Look at the bottom-right corner in the back around 3:10. That's the unsung hero of JM concerts: Rene Martinez (formerly SRV's guitar tech.) He tires over all of JM's gear making sure everything is tuned and sounds spot on for when JM sounds spot on. That man deserves a lot of respect; if you want an incredible example watch this: SRV - Look at Little Sister 1989 (a string breaks) by Killboy010 /watch?v=8yWaZVchd6k&feature=youtube_gdata_player Right after the solo RM runs out with another guita
guitar and switched with Stevie like clockwork; it just adds to my point the JM has possibly the most perfect/dedicated person looking after him and his gear.
Rain rain rain boy that summer tours Charlotte North Carolina did it rain in all of sudden Skies cleared and John Mara began on his Summer Tour 2010 I remember it quite well fired me up🔥🔥🎇
this was the best night of my life, one of his representatives gave me & 6 of my friends upgraded front row tickets, that night was just incredible. meeting him outside in a ben & jerrys truck was priceless. if anybody wants to see pics of him add me on facebook Andre Pinero Weksler
&laurenleialoha So around 4:25 did you head explode with joy! What I wanted to point out is how when he's soloing right there and making his "faces," he looks VERY much like the young JM he once was. Although he's in his mid-30s and is an established adult you can still see hints of the JM in the Any Given Thursday video; it's pretty crazy! Those faces during the solos are a time machine to who he once was.
if i was that close to John Mayer i would be flipping out. that camera would not sit still and you would most likely hear me shrieking/crying in the background.
@TheDesirrous he said at the time that he knew Battle Studies wasn't his best album but he wanted to write something 'catchy'. His next album will be much more like the earlier John.
i love the fact that he never plays the same version twice
A true musician

This song gives me chills.
Just raw talent, pure and simple😊
3:25-3:35 Extremely reminiscent of what he played at Any Given Thursday. Those few smirks from John must make him feel like he's back at that time
Frank Morgan "Helen's Song" - taken it from the Any Given Thursday audio Commentary
I swear I melted for 3:35 - 4:05. Covered in rain is definitely the track of my life.
I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who turned into a puddle of liquid during that time of the recording.
I'm forcing my son to pick up a guitar when he's 2
Same
Same
That's too old bro he needs to start before 8 months tops to get to Mayer's level
Incredible... I was there! Probably my favorite song of the entire night... it was so magical and nearly brought me to tears.
.fireworks to fireplaces...summer stole what fall replaces...wow I;ve always loved that lyric

The crazy playing faces, awkward body movements. It was like the John of 2002 for a few good minutes there during the solo.
Just cant decide which song i like the most, so much to choose from. I thought Wild Blue, but now i like Covered in Rain, decisions, decisions😊

Right after the solo RM runs out with another guita
0:16 Even Mr Mayer thinks this is super groovy. What a wonderful song!
this guy is insane...
I absolutely LOVE the solo section in "Covered in Rain". CAN SOLOS GET ANY BETTER? I DON'T KNOW.
guitar and switched with Stevie like clockwork; it just adds to my point the JM has possibly the most perfect/dedicated person looking after him and his gear.
2:28...whooops...well it's good to know that he's a mortal after all...
this song is a nobel literature prize worthy
Rain rain rain boy that summer tours Charlotte North Carolina did it rain in all of sudden Skies cleared and John Mara began on his Summer Tour 2010 I remember it quite well fired me up🔥🔥🎇
pure gem
Beautiful Solo
damn that lick at 3:38 is boss.

so amazing, I can't wait to see him in houston!
3:35 is rain.
💘
This is amazing
I love his hair here
After this I am like... OH... MY... GOD!
Who says you cannot feel for something you know nothing about
no dislikes. HEAVEN!!
i remember he did this one when i saw him in copenhagen back in 2004 - this is almost as good, even though its only youtbe :) such an amazing song
Beautiful, thank you!
3:39, holy shit!!
Rarest thing I got when you covered in rain rain rain rain
Thanks for this video!

@germanmartinez1994 Yep. He's definitely back. Just saw him in Tulsa.
4:30-4:35 I have no idea what he's saying, but it makes his performance that much more amazing haha
2:58
Great vid, extraordinary song. lol, john and his plaid pants :)
@RHCPFitz yeah. john the musician
The real One!w w
if i was that close to John Mayer i would be flipping out.
that camera would not sit still and you would most likely hear me shrieking/crying in the background.
@onlyonetigger That's the thing about John. Whenever you think that you know what John is capable of he'll tell you that he's just getting started.
i haven't listened to mayer since i was a kid, but depsite that i definitely do not remember him dressing like charlie sheen...
He used the same guitar from that period! Cool :)
I had never heard this song. So, I listened and it's more like cliffs of dover, of course! :p
This seems a little too fast, but still by far my favorite Mayer tune
@2:35 yes yes yes
@TheDesirrous he said at the time that he knew Battle Studies wasn't his best album but he wanted to write something 'catchy'. His next album will be much more like the earlier John.
I want those pants ngl
@onlyonetigger He knows his scales
@RHCPFitz its good to see him again isnt it?
Please someone tell me how to play 3:35, that run is incredible
Its a Joe Bonamassa style run. He's in G aeolian
marshall bowdrie it’s on utube there’s a guy that does a complete tutorial. Search for it.
@RHCPFitz Are you saying that John was better back in the day? If so, I'd love to hear why, because I don't think that I could possibly agree.
2:28 when we enter another realm..
@onlyonetigger no pick too
I think he's saying "I love you too"
what was the show where he sang this song as it rained???
@nate891 ya it sounded so koool
Wow
@nate891 you havent watched enough of his videos then....
Mellow toned down performance of the original "Covered in Rain". Still enjoyable though.Its one of my favorite guitar solo tunes.
sweet pants
them jack-up's thou :P
smells like steve vai's spirit.
@onlyonetigger john went eric johnson for a moment
series of pull-offs and hammer-ons in the pentatonic scale in the key of G i believe.
no last verse? :/
is there a link to the performance referred to in the description?
How the hell does he do 3:38-3:50?!
his pickup switch must be dead now. (on the end) lmao
I love this man more than anything in the world... but I hate those pants
@EtherealSunrise
more like eric johnson's cliffs of dover!
Effortless
