    While living in Poland, I bought my first computer in 1988, it was an Atari 65XE with an XC12 tape recorder.
    Loading Atari games from a tape recorder was terribly long, so in 1989 I installed Turbo Blizzard and the games loaded 10 times faster than normal
    I had Boulder Dash 2 on my first cassette and it was one of my favorite games, the Atari version is almost identical to the C64 version, later I played other versions of this game.
    Of course, I also had other Atari games, but in 1990 I bought an Amiga 500, then in 1993 A1200 and then a PC.
    I also had several consoles, and currently I have a PS5

    Brilliant longplay. That game was much harder than it looks here.
    There was also a Boulderdash Construction Kit game, but I can't remember if it was stand-alone or came with one of the other games. I spent hours with that one.

    I watched my dad play this for hours on end at home, learning how best to solve each level by watching him play, then later I'd play it myself too. I must have only managed to clear all 5 loops of the game (caves A/1 to P/5) well into the 1990s, when I was 14 or something. I find the difficulty balance in this one much better than in Boulder Dash I, I could make it to the fourth loop in that one I think, I think I kept getting game over on K/4 as I recall.

    I think I remember more playing the first part, at least I don’t remember this title music. Also I don’t know what happens at 1:08.. but I think I remember that green ooze? But also not that it turned to diamonds. It’s been quite a while since I had my trusty commodore in use. Still have the computer, but sadly lost all the floppys.

      I don't know about C64 version, but in atari 130xe and probably atari 800xl and 65xe, the protagonist would die when barely touching those enemies(at the same frame)

    • @fmoyano
      @fmoyano 3 года назад

      Here is the answer (use translator):En atari si se puede, yo lo he hecho. Hay 2 formas que no te toque el cuadrado, una de ellas es no detenerse nunca y al no detenerse no te mata el cuadrado al pasar por al lado. Lo otro es que el cuadrado va siguiendo el centro del contorno (en ese angulo) y eso hace se pueda caminar por al lado.

    These are the wrong rules of the game. This is too simple. In the original, you can't be with squares and butterflies. And the stones roll not only from each other, but also from the edge of the wall.

    • @goonerw27
      @goonerw27 5 лет назад +3

      You normally can't but under very specific circumstances the "collision detection" will not trigger. It's all to do with how the game updates each square from left to right and top to bottom (basically, the collision/kill detection of the firefly only happens after it moves and "things" "move" in order from left to right/top to bottom, not simultaneously. If Rockford goes first (he's above the firefly) and moves into an adjacent square, then the firefly "moves" to a square that isn't adjacent to Rockford (as in the video), then Rockford is safe. It's rather complicated and I can't find the wiki that had it all in detail to link here).
      Also, the boulders falling from wall edges is a level-specific setting. It can be turned off.
      Edit: Found a guide on the "firefly touching": www.boulder-dash.nl/forum/viewtopic.php?t=639
