I remember watching the Dream Team documentary where John was seemingly the only player able to go out in public and totally blend in without drawing attention to himself. I thought it was funny, he might be the all time steals/assists leader because no one thought he'd be able to steal their pass, or no one thought he could complete his passes. Dude was a 5'10 white dude who played for close to 2 decades. Yet watching this, I see, he was extremely proficient and is worthy of much adulation.
What a great tribute to Stockton, I rooted for the Jazz during those 2 Finals, only cause I got to see him about 5 years earlier at the Delta center (I was visiting US). Since then, I was a Jazz fan in a mostly Bulls leaning basketball crazy country. I kinda got disappointed they didn't get at least one, but looking back, I feel privileged to see a player who comes along probably...never again. What a great player, an even better person off court.
Remember watching him at 7 years old as they beat Houston in 97 dam what a beast very professional class act 💯 this is what the Todays game is lacking on
I can remember all those years watching John Stockton play the Houston rockets man I hated you because you were so damn good I'm from Houston Texas lots of respect to John Stockton you're an awesome man.
Stockton is a (relatively) small player but what many people don't know is that he's got ENORMOUS hands! Hand size is such an underrated quality in basketball players. Jordan would not be Jordan without those hands!!
that's the man out there, a pure example of a point guard, i almost cried for this one. he doesn't play for the money he plays because he wants to win and i don't care if he do not have a nba ring what matters is legacy he made through out his 19th season career. much respect for that guy and his family. God bless thanks for this video a very nice one =)
Not only was John Stockton a great player, but he is a good man who has given back to the community after his retirement. I miss the Stockton/Malone days of the Utah Jazz, but I'm sure that he is happy to be where he is now.
Whoever disliked this video should be ashamed. Easily one of the greatest point guards to ever play, by the sounds of everyone an even better person too. #respect
Thanks for posting this wonderful retrospective. I simply could not hold John Stockton in higher regard as a player and as a man. He was utterly refreshing in terms of his humility and was always a thrill to watch on the court. The level of respect shown towards him in this video by such an all-star cast of characters says it all. Even his autobiography is called "Assisted" ... where he talks about all the people who helped him. He just doesn't want to take credit and make it about himself. He's not just a sports role model, he's also a life role model for anyone who is willing to take notice. Thank you John Stockton for just being you!
Great video. Appreciate you uploading a video about John Stockton. Learned a lot from watching all the parts. Definitely one of the best point guards of all time.
Its exactly as Isiah says, he does not do behind the back or iso dribble moves does not trash talk does not do flashy passes but still he'd come out of a game leaving the best of players clueless as to how he was able to do what he did game in and game out. His IQ is out of this world and he saw the floor with a vision that is non existent these days. He was the greatest ever pure point guard to have and will play the game. Funny thing is his son David is similar in playing style but he hasn't been able to break into the NBA until 24. Guess that makes it clear what the idea of a point guard is today in contrast to what the idea was in 1984.
This made my day! I was just looking at a few other things and came upon this and was mesmorized by a man who on the east coast do not hear much about even how great he was. I am glad to get to know more about him and his story and smile at the other players comments of how tough and good he was. The funniest things were him giving his wife stitches in hockey and blocking the kid in the wheelchair's shot so he could win! ha! He is good basketball thanks so much again for your posts!
I feel small. That kid at 1:02 can shoot a jumpshot better than me..But enough of that, love John Stockton. A great player, loyal teammate and great man. A true legend.
If I had someone like Stockton coaching me back during my HS years, I probably would've stuck with basketball for good. Players/people like him are a dying breed today, which is a damn shame. There might not be another Stockton in the NBA right now, but the closest I've seen to that kind of mindset on the court is Kendall Marshall of the Lakers. Maybe he'll eventually bring that same spirit back to the game if he sticks around a while longer.
The ultimate underdog. He didn't have all the tools but he had the heart and the fire to become one of the greatest point guards and my favorite player of all time. He will always be my idol :D
Mikey IV what? He didn't have all the tools? You cannot be more wrong. Think about it, how many people there are in the world with the same height as him or taller, but how many can play like him as a proper point guard? He has got the fastest reflection. That's something for great tool. And who has got the solid footwork? Stockton. So what is it that "lack of tools up his sleeve"? Wrong.
awesome videos indeed they need more guys like him in the nba now days..i followed this guy since i was a kid hated for him to leave cause i know its the last of his kind play like he did.
those was the time... tho Jazz wasnt my fav team but really love to watch this duo doing the pick 'n roll... Ostertag a funny guy, Hornacek just good, John Stockton and Karl Marlone just amazing...
What durability and skill. Amazing. Magic would get more points and rebs but as a pure point guard, John was old school. He reminds me of Lenny Wilkens, only better.
The one thing that's make Stockton one of the greatest of all times, when he decided to stay with his Utah, even though he could get his ring by follow Malone to the Lakers
Yep I agree. I grew up in Utah & rooted for the Jazz. It may make me a hater but I was happy Malone didn't get a ring with the lakers. John would've played another season had Malone stayed with Utah. They were past there prime & had no shot at winning anything but a final goodbye season would've been a great way to end both careers.
Ok, I know the Bulls since they began as a team, I was rooting for them for every championship they could get, but underneath it all, I was a Stockton --not Jazz-- fan.
@jazzgyrl hey thanks for this incredible video, i remembered the best moments of my childhood with it, its amazing to get to know him this much. Do you know by any chance if he has writte some memories or something to get to know him better? he could have run for major and easily win.
yes, im affraid you are very right. It's really sad, i would really love to know a little better something about his mindset or his perspective of life...
Oops autocorrect messed my statement up. Lebron proved that by leaving and joining a better team to win a ring. Before that it was KG, Ray Allen twice, and a ton of players this year. John played almost every game in his 19 years and made his team better. Plus he played with only one other HOF player, even Jordan can't say that. Also, he holds records that can't be touched for a long time.
@ace9428 rings have nothing to do with being a great player, Lebron loved that theory by leaving and joining another team to achieve that goal. John was and will forever go down as the best point.
got chills watching this! his legacy is complete even without the ring!!!!!
I remember watching the Dream Team documentary where John was seemingly the only player able to go out in public and totally blend in without drawing attention to himself. Thanks John for Dreams

He could've easily played until he was 43. Greatest point guard of all time.
The definition of an unselfish pass first player. Number 1 in assists and steals for his career but number 41 in career points. Much respect.
How lucky we were to have John here in Utah for nineteen years.
From Spokane and he has done so much for our community, to the game and to everyone he touches, great player and a great human!
Stockton is a (relatively) small player but what many people don't know is that he's got ENORMOUS hands! Hand size is such an underrated quality in basketball players. Jordan would not be Jordan without those hands!!

when you get the respect from your peers like this that speaks for itself, I know it's corny but I had tears in my eye's
Me too several times
Not only was John Stockton a great player, but he is a good man who has given back to the community after his retirement. I miss the Stockton/Malone days of the Utah Jazz, but I'm sure that he is happy to be where he is now.
“One of the best to ever do it”
I grew up watching these games I am very thankful

Awesome docu, I didn't know much about Stockton, but now I do!
This is just amazing! Thanks for the upload! Watched every part of it. John Stockton, you will forever be my favorite athlete of all time! :)
WHAT A TOTAL GENTLEMAN AND HUMAN,GOD BLESS YOU JOHN 🙌 🙏 😊 ❤ 💖
Either the best or second best point guard ever. Definitely the purest, most text book point guard and my favourite. Great man too.
Great video. Appreciate you uploading a video about John Stockton. Learned a lot from watching all the parts. Definitely one of the best point guards of all time.
Simply the BEST!!!

One of greatest all time. How can anyone dispute that.
As his father said-- A good Catholic, a father who loves his wife and family, and was one of the best at basketball, why? Because it was fun!
What? John stocton wasn't a mormon
Wonderful series on a truly great player. Thanks for the upload.

unselfish , not flashy , a beast of a player.....character
I feel small. That kid at 1:02 can shoot a jumpshot better than me..But enough of that, love John Stockton. A great player, loyal teammate and great man. A true legend.
It’s always great to see the amount of respect Payton has for him
I respect this guy.

Grande entre grandes, emociona ver tantos momentos vividos. Ejemplo de vida y de deportista.
If Stockton had gone to Lakers with Malone, he and Malone would be NBA-champs for the first time.
But that was never a choice for Stockton.
Best point guard of all time!!!!...
We all love Karl and Charle.
those was the time...
tho Jazz wasnt my fav team but really love to watch this duo doing the pick 'n roll...

the last minute gives me the chills
Love this documentary. And love that you had Moby playing in here.
Respect him as a basketball player and even more as a man, and there are fewer and fewer NBA players that I can say that about now a days.

CR Curia I could not agree more!
God bless you King Stockton 🙏
The GOAT!!
🎊🎉🎈🎊🎈🎉Thank’s JHON...!!! 🎉🎊🎁🎊🎉🎈🎊🎉🎈
Kids stop looking up to gangsta rappers and look up to someone like john Stockton
Nice person, admirable guy
Thanks, John
a true legend deffo in the top 2 of best ever PGs
@jazzgyrl hey thanks for this incredible video, i remembered the best moments of my childhood with it, its amazing to get to know him this much. Do you know by any chance if he has writte some memories or something to get to know him better? he could have run for major and easily win.
Thanks jazzgyrl. Got me all misty eyed nah.
The last great real point guard....
what a fine man , example
Ok thanks for the info.
players at the point nowadays are all about about flash. this is what a true point guard is... fundamentals & get the job done. assist first
yes, im affraid you are very right. It's really sad, i would really love to know a little better something about his mindset or his perspective of life...
Dude's a fucking baller.
"Painting against Picasso" haha
Didn't Magic Johnson in this very video say that any young people that want to learn how to be a PG should watch John Stockton play?
what's the song at the end? I wish there are more John Stocktons in NBA today.
David Gray song "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye"
Stopped watching the NBA the day he retired.

Well made, well deserved video. Thanks for making me cry you big jerks!

Why nothing from Jordan? Lol!!! That's too bad, I was looking forward to his comments.
John Stockton graduated as Scott Baio? 3:58
lol 2:33
he's actually 6'9 way too tall
