    Averaged a double-double for his career, shot over 51% from the field, and never missed the playoffs. This is over 19 seasons. Incredible.

    When Stockton and Karl Malone left the Utah Jazz, I was done with Basketball.(Its awful today).. Watching Stockton play the game ,(the way it should be played) It was enjoyable and a pleasure to watch.Stockton played 110 % every night.The players today should watch highlights of him and learn how to play the game, the right way.What a player and what a Class Act.I miss watching him and Karl play, I cann't believe its been 17 years ...

    Gary Payton's comments was like the icing on the cake. The glove does not throw out too many compliments about other players. I read something many years ago about his training/running. Said something like in addition to practice and games that he ran like 5 miles a day everyday

    My childhood sports hero and I got to shake hands with him at church any number of times. After having watched Stockton and the Jazz taking on the Bulls in the NBA Finals so many years before, I couldn't believe it when I first was able to shake his hand at church. Great, humble guy. Though he definitely looks like he could rip you to shreds haha.

    How can you not respect John Stockton? A man's man. Night in and night out competed with stronger faster and bigger players yet more times than not came out on top. He was able to compete on this level for 19 years. That is incredible. I feel blessed to have been able to grow up watching him play in the NBA. I can't imagine another point guard of his significance will come along in my lifetime. All hail John Stockton!!!!

    Stockton was neither buff, big or build, but if you where on his team, he would find you with a pass. For many years there where 1-2-punch. Stockton to Malone
    It's a real beaty that Karl Malone and John Stockton in real life are so good friends.

  • @dannyd1572

  • @bolder2009
    @bolder2009 12 лет назад +2

    When you consider what Magic did in those 12 seasons and consider the numbers he would have stacked up had he played longer, then it gives you an idea of how great he was. Its important to acknowledge that Magic retired early and still had a lot of basketball left in him, so the history books would look a lot different as far as his total of assists are concerned. Nobody can deny that Stockton is one of the two greatest point guards in NBA history alongside Magic.

  • @brandonbuchner1771

  • @ayorcliffe

    Basketball have changed...nobody will get even close to his assists number. I like to watch Tony parker nowadays....but i think its a different kind of game, once he does not passes like Stockton did. Nash got closer, but he had not a good scorer like Karl Malone to use the Stockton's talent at the maximum. Best duo EVER!

  • @ddenuci
    @ddenuci 15 лет назад +1

    Another great point guard who often is not mentioned among the greats is Kevin Johnson, but he had a great stretch in the early '90s. An interesting thing about the assist statistic is that if a player makes a pass who is then fouled, and that player goes to the line and hits 2 free throws, the guy who made the pass does not get an assist. Yet, his pass effectively resulted in 2 points. And when I think of Stockton, I can't help but think how many assists he lost passing the ball to Ostertag.

  • @CinHalCedHerChance
    @CinHalCedHerChance 2 года назад

    5:00 , but 5:09 where it starts, the way he reads the guy trying to pass to Pippen who is posting Stockton up, Stockton stutter steps to the right, then back, then back to the right again and steals the ball from PIPPEN, long arms and 6'7, amazing hustle.

  • @adan2374

    Man, for someone like the great Steve Nash to actually come out and say that John Stockton is the greatest NBA point guard who ever played...that means something. Especially with the type of reputation and stature held by Steve as a player. Now of course I don't know how many people would agree with that statement, because their have definitely been some amazing point guards who've played in the NBA, of whom a handful have been in recent years. But I still think Stockton probably holds the title in that category considering the fact that he still holds the record for most career assists and steals by a longshot, along with him and Karl Malone being the best duo in NBA history!

    You gotta love John Stockton.
    He looks just like a regular, normal, unassuming guy that works in an office? He didn't have an atheltic or powering physique and can sadly be one of those players that's easily overlooked in terms of basketball skill in a game dominated by black guys.
    But he's one of the top 50 NBA players of all time and a tenacious, determined, hard working and skilled ball player.
    It's such a shame he couldn't get a ring, him and Malone really deserved one?

    I've never seen a more effective player in almost 30 years of being an NBA fan. Everything that Stockton did was just basic fundamentals with no flash. Stockton wasn't incredibly fast and had only average athleticism, but managed to accomplish so much with hard work and intelligence. Not to mention that he only used one half of the court to do it with. Seriously, Stockton only went to his right for the entirety of his career. Miraculously scouts missed this fact about Stockton and teams never shaded him to his left. It's like Stockton flew under their radar and just killed teams quietly.

      +Camden Jester it was neither of those two things that screwed the Jazz. It was Howard Eisleys 3 late in the game that was clearly good on reply but waived off. They didnt review back then. And also late was Pippens 3 that was very late and counted yet replay shows it wasnt even close to beating the shot clock, but as I said no reply to overturn back then. Thats a six point swing. Not saying the Jazz win the title, but a game 7 should have happend but didnt. Jazz got screwed. I would love to have seen a game 7 at Jazz, too bad. I think that Jazz team is better than a few teams over the years that did win it. Easily.

    he and gary payton are the most underrated players of the 90s. point guards almost never get enough love. they are the manipulators of the game; they use every movement, every decision to change the course of action in a way that benefits their team. the floor generals, and he and payton were two of the best of them. stockton's probably better though, by an inch

    Some people think Karl Malone made John Stockton great. They need to be corrected. There are five major career stat categories. Points. Assists. Rebounds. Blocks. Steals. John Stockton is the only player who is the career leader in two of those 5 categories: He is the Career leader in assists at 15,806, 23% more than #2 Jason Kidd. And Stockton is the career leader in Steals 3,265 career steals, 17% more than #2 Jason Kid. He never stole the ball from Karl Malone.

Would white people say, he doesn't look like a hockey player? Nope. And I think you know why. They are right...he doesn't look like a basketball player. And we will be saying the same things about Steve Nash when he finally hangs it up. It's a damn shame.

    Perhaps he is, but he wasn't the best PG in the league when Magic was still playing. At the end of the day he has done enough to justify that consideration. But you'll find just as many who like me watched the careers of both players and will without hesitation tell you that Magic was the greatest PG in NBA history. It doesn't matter, as they both have a legitimate case in that conversation. On longetivity Stockton is undisputed, but pound for pound Magic is the best I've seen.

    Funny how magic is the best and the argue net always comes to rings.....but magic always had the more talented team, Stockton had Malone, and the occasional filler player. Stockton is the best PURE point guard ever, and overall I'd say it's a coin flip over the two.

    also magic is more of a forward in my opinion and not really a true pure point guard. Stockton is THE model point guard in the NBA. magic was good at everything so you can't really call him a pure point guard.

    So if u look at PERSONAL records...John Stockton is the best player in the history of the NBA, I mean it's not even close ....he holds multiple records, but there r 5 major stats...Stockton has 2 of them steals and assists...that's unreal...also Jordan should have been 4/6.... The 2 years in the finals, Jazz were the better team....if u go look at the games, it's obvious that the refs gave the title to the Bulls, this is not some crazy conspiracy theory, it's basically known at this point..,The NBA, was making more money off of Jordan being a Dynasty then any sport in the history of sports, THEY STILL ARE MAKING A FORTUNE FROM JORDAN....so when u watch the games close, if it's a blowout, the refs can't do anything, but if it's close, and the Bulls were a great team, just not as good as Jazz, u see the calls where they handed it to them, it just takes a few calls here on there, when it's going to be a game decided with less than 10 points...I saw the games, live in both Utah, and flew to Chicago, even in the Chicago paper, they said thanks to the refs...there was a buzzer beater that when u review, was not even close, given to Bulls, the SAME GAME, a buzzer beater from Jazz was good, and was waved off..,that's a 6 point swing, and Jazz lost by 5... Jordan famously pushed off Byron Russel, to win...when u understand how the league makes money, and that Jordan winning, would and still makes the BILLIONS...u understand..also if u watch the games, it's broken down where they cheated them, ALSO several NBA refs, have come forward, AND TOLD how they were told and taught to cheat for teams...it's a fact...Their individual numbers r not even close, Stockton vs Jordan...not even near the same level....

      Bryan Joseph I am a Jazz fan, and while I am not so sure about 1997, there definitely was some stuff going on in 1998.

      Eric S A Game 7 is not an argument for Stockton not being better. We don't know who would have won Game 7.

      Eric S Well, I never said that it outright COSTED them a championship. But it did cost them a POTENTIAL championship, or the chance for one, if you will.
      The other thing though is that there were dumb calls in the other Games of the series as well, which could very well be credited to as the reason why the Jazz were even down 3-1 in the first place (with the exception of Game 3. The Jazz were just ass in that game).

      Eric S That could very well be true. Now a days, point guards are just shooting threes a lot (#StephCurry). The only point guard I know of that is close to even being CONSIDERED a point guard like Stockton is Chris Paul.
