Thank you for the excellent video! John is definitely my favorite player of all time. My older brother and I spent countless childhood hours in the driveway perfecting the infamous "Stockton to Malone".
Great video, and very good analysis. The one thing about John that I would like to add was his work effort, both on and off the ball. When he wasn't handling the ball, he was busy setting a screen or getting open like no other player I've ever seen. He was always moving. He was a businessman, and when he went to work he was the most tenacious and hard working businessman you'd ever see. Not only that, but so rarely missed a day of work that it's got too be some kind of record.
One of the most underrated players. Loved them playing the bulls back to back in the playoffs. Never seen such close matches as intense as that. The Glove even says he's one of the hardest players to guard.
Great analysis! I think people overlook how quick he was for most of his career. Plus, he was in great physical shape. Karl Malone and he worked out a lot and took being in game shape seriously. Also, just his mental toughness to play the last few years of his career with his injuries. The pick and roll worked so well because if the other team doubled up on him, he'd just pass it to Karl and most times he'd make the shot, and if they doubled up on Karl, he'd shoot it and usually make it. Could shoot, steal the ball, play great D, pass, and knew where everyone on the court was at all times. What I would call a true point guard, because he actually took the ball up the court and was the floor general, deciding who to pass the ball to, etc. One of my favorite players of all time. Thanks for the analysis/tribute!
They definitely weren't underrated at the time though. There were a lot of great teams in the western conference then, the Lakers were just fully loaded that decade.

I’m from Spokane and played with Stockton in some summer pick up games Dude didn’t have big hands. He had freakishly big hands and extremely long fingers for a guy his size. He could palm the ball on the dribble and it’s essentially why he could make the one-handed passes he did at full speed, whereas a lot of point guards would risk turning the ball over.

People that say Stockton was just smart and not a great athlete have no idea what they are talking about. Most didn't see Stockton play early on in his career, like say 1984-92 (his first 8-10 seasons in the league). Stockton played until he was 40. That is insane at the PG position. I mean Stockton was matched up against the world's best athletes and put up numbers and records that will never be touched. The Jazz weren't seen much nationally in the first half of Stockton's career. Technology and access was different then. Fans knew Stockton's numbers back in the day but saw limited clips on Sports Center. That is about all there was then. And the jazz were ignored nationally because of their small market until later on in that era when the Jazz got more role players and got deeper into the playoffs. Stockton was already 35 years old when the Jazz played the Bulls in the NBA Finals those two seasons, Most of these Stockton videos on youtube (like this one here) are videos and clips when Stockton was south of 30 years old. Stockton played against the best athletes in the world at his position until he was 40. He was extremely durable and tough. Stockton played in every single game in 17 of his 19 seasons and never missed a playoff game (made the playoffs all 19 seasons). That is unmatched. If you saw Stockton play when he was young, then you would know he was a GREAT athlete. Stockton was as fast as anyone in the league with the ball in his hands in his twenties. Stockton had superior reflexes, tremendous balance, top level hand eye coordination, unbelievable durability, hardcore stamina (relentless motor), unprecedented vision, plus underrated strength and quickness. His numbers speak for themselves. John Stockton is one of the best players of all time (not just PGs).
@@Getloose360 John Stockton set screens on Karl Malone's man all game long. John Stockton played defense all game long. Steve Nash never averaged 14 assists per game. Give me John Stockton all day everyday!
Stockton was Nash before Nash was. Stockton would have averaged 20-25 assists a game with that suns team. He played way better defense and would of beat Nash purely out of desire to play defense. The man was unreal, look at their last two seasons Stockton at 40 PTS 10.8, STL 1.7, AST 7.7, REB 2.5 Nash at 39 PTS 6.8, STL 0.5, AST 5.7, REB 1.9 case closed
I will certainly have to agree. He passed the ball before the defense had a chance to react. Also him and Carl Malone had the hardest pick and roll to defend. They did it so lone it became instintive.

You guys forgot 1 underestimated skill he possessed. He was a fantastic screen setter. Mostly because of his toughness.
he was amazing! ask guys like Michael Jordan or Byron Scott how great he was! a very underrated talent. exceptionally quick!
Also Gary Payton has said on several occasions that Stockton was the toughest player he ever had to defend.
Stockton's hands are absolutely monstrous!! That gave him such an advantage.
Flat out can play! Hard nose baller in on of the deepest drafts and lived up to all the top billing.
Hakeem, Bowie, Jordan. Sam Perkins, Sir Charles, Robertson, Razorbacks, Lancaster Gordon, Louisville Cards, Mel Turpin, John Stockton, Zags, Leon Woods, Willis, Hawks, Stansbury, LA, Thorpe, Cage, Kenny Fields, UCLA, Turner. Vandy, Houston Cougars? Vern Fleming, Ga.Bulldogs, Tim McCormick,
T. Campbell,
19yrs HOF , Leader in assist all nba defense many times, leader in steals. Played for great coaches in Frank Layden and the late Jerry Sloan. 50+ % shooting, 3pts, FT, top scorers amongst PG. BETTER THAN THE NUMBERS OF NASH IN MVP SEASONS!
NEVER GOT THE RING, MALONE, BARKLEY, Hill? Reggie Miller, Mark Jackson Ewing, Webber, Rose, Terry Cummings Carmelo, Chris Mullins, Maravich, Ralph Sampson Iverson, Dominique so elusive!
Not the likes of Nowinski, Morning, Kidd, Garnett, Drexler.....
But what a career!
I’m from Spokane and played with Stockton in some summer pick up games
Dude didn’t have big hands. He had freakishly big hands and extremely long fingers for a guy his size. He could palm the ball on the dribble and it’s essentially why he could make the one-handed passes he did at full speed, whereas a lot of point guards would risk turning the ball over.
Great Video I've subscribed! Keep the content coming!
Stock is my all-time favorite athlete by faaaar and it's not even close. Check out my screen name and you'll know just how much I love this guy!
Amazing video. Really awesome stuff here! Thank you for uploading!
"Stockton to Malone!" for life baby.
Pick'n'Roll82 Thanks so much man! Watching the footage of him, he is incredible! I really wish I was able to watch him back when he was playing.
I’m glad you liked the video! Since you liked it I would love if you subbed! I come out with new videos like this every week! Thanks so much againn
Pick'n'Roll82 dawg I was named after him 😂
0:46 he beat a young Steve Franchise off the dribble.
Nice vid!! Excellent analysis
Andy McKay Thanks so much! It means a lot! I come out with these types of videos every week so feel free to subscribe ☺️
Excellent work!
John Stockton really was amazing to watch.
Stockton was already 35 years old when the Jazz played the Bulls in the NBA Finals those two seasons,
Most of these Stockton videos on youtube (like this one here) are videos and clips when Stockton was south of 30 years old.
He is underrated like this channel.
Best channel ever music is trippy when ur high af
Love this comment Hahahah, definitely gonna try watching this baked now
Congratulations on being high
Totally true in each point made. Also, a man, a credit to any human in or out of NBA
Best stealer of all time, wish there were a few more clips of that.
Better than Steve Nash ever was.
In that he played defense. Yes, passing I'd say that Nash was very close.
@@Getloose360 John Stockton set screens on Karl Malone's man all game long. John Stockton played defense all game long. Steve Nash never averaged 14 assists per game. Give me John Stockton all day everyday!
Nash should have shot more in his prime.
Stockton was Nash before Nash was. Stockton would have averaged 20-25 assists a game with that suns team. He played way better defense and would of beat Nash purely out of desire to play defense. The man was unreal, look at their last two seasons
Stockton at 40
PTS 10.8, STL 1.7, AST 7.7, REB 2.5
Nash at 39
PTS 6.8, STL 0.5, AST 5.7, REB 1.9
case closed
DJ THE SHOOTER Nash is a 2 time MVP. Stockton never finished higher than 5th in MVP voting.
He had the simplest quickest cross over move I've ever seen, looks easy to extremely difficult to do
I will certainly have to agree. He passed the ball before the defense had a chance to react. Also him and Carl Malone had the hardest pick and roll to defend. They did it so lone it became instintive.
Nice video. I would agree he was the greatest pure point in my opinion. I'm glad you pointed out that he would bail out defenses sometimes by not looking to score more. Overall though, I'm taking Magic every time
John Stockton what a guy
Complete ball player on both ends on the floor, best PG in NBA I ever seen.. Genius!?
THE BEST Point Guard of all time, bar none.
Marty Venida blasphemous. What makes him better than Magic?
@@ryanhaig3970 stats hun
Chicken Bubblegum magic is all time in assists PER GAME.
Whitney Allison Magic def has better average stats per game.
Check mate
Very well done.
When I used to shoot hoops a lot of people compared me to this guy I didn't think about it much then because everybody was always talking about Jordan then.
But now I kind of wish I would have kept playing who knows I might have gotten somewhere.
How do you now have more views... I really hope your channel blows up
Stockton was awesome to watch!!
Great content!
Fantastic video!
Greatest point guard of all time! Has the records to prove it. Too bad he and Malone never won a championship. As a bulls fan I felt bad they had t face us, twice.
One of my favorite players
Stockton's crossover was so underrated. I never got the big hype about Iverson crossing Jordan when guys like Stockton and Tim Hardaway used to do it all the time. And did it much cleaner as well.
Love this!
1:30 one of his favorite moves was the spin move on the break? And how many times has he done that? That’s the only clip I’ve ever seen of him pulling that move.
I heard from other people who was able to watch him more in his prime and they did say he used it often enough. I do wish I was able to find more footage of it though. Thanks for watching the video anyways!
The Hoopostle I grew up in this era and watched ALOT of his games. The spin move on the break was definitely not his favorite move nor did he do it often if ever. You must be thinking of Mark Price, another little white guy guard. Price liked to split defences
Perfect Man.
0:32 what a picture!
He was super great for a short player. But in the end, he did need to rely on a bigger guy like Malone. Too bad Malone choked in the playoffs.
$$$ This video is amazingly well done! $$$
this video is so good omg.
Very good video.
0:58 that is the cleanest roll ever
Magic
Steph
Stockton
He's my favorite player in NBA live game
Stockton would shoot 10 good shots a game and make 8 of them consistently... definitely a player you would be glad is on your team! Great player!
Stockton. Brilhante. Inesquecível! 🏀
John Stockton brought chess to a checkers fight.
