No short shorts, not accurate.
The mod developers tried but there were issues with the meshs and texture wraps not looking right. Besides the shorts were mostly worn by the territorials and second lline guys. Alot of the frontline guys didnt wear them especially since they had to go stomping through heavy bush looking for terrs.

I represented a Marine from the 70s who retired and went and fought with Rhodesian forces as a merc. He had some crazy stories and some cool pics.
3 older cousins and two uncles were there as Mercs ….many crazy stories I had growing up . Being born in 60 I heard MANY .

the Rhodesians stopped using short shorts by the middle of the war, mainly due to be spotted easy by enemy troops.

Imagine this game with Escape from Tarkov quality and weapon characteristics.
Due to the atmosphere/altitude of Zimbabwe/Rhodesia and the already low altitudes the Daks would be flying at, Rhodie paras would be spending only a few seconds in the air before making contact with the ground.
There is a heap of Australian birds in that African jungle apparently lol, can hear an Eastern Whipbird constantly in that video, pretty recognisable to any Aussie

Cool! Friend of mine was in the Rhodesian army. He is in his early 60's and living in Texas and US citizen going on 16 years now. He can tell you a great survival story how some of them survived a anti tank landmine when their vehicle went over it. He loved his FAL, has a SCAR now.

I understand one bad thing abt civs. in this was you never knew when they might pick up a weapon off a dead guy and rail on the good guys . BTW in a security job I had when way younger we were at an accident where in pouring rain a car had a blow out and spun down an large creek bed ...since we were a convoy boss said leave it ...a CAR slowly sliding backwards down a muddy bank towards the rushing water ...child in the backseat screaming ...haunts me STILL to this day and THATS why I got out of that line of work . Humanity and country were a very blurred line .

The issue with these Rhodesian Fals are them having carry handles. They would cut those off, to avoid it catching on gear or clothing. It's a minor thing though. Not something many people know about either. M16 rifles were used very very late in the war, and were not very common.

sad they didn’t get the uniforms correct, paratroopers didn’t land with berets or Boonie caps. For the most part they dropped wearing ww2 British style para helmets and usually switched to french style flap caps. Para’s were usually use in fire force tactics, in which they would form the killing line, so when helicopter troops would force the guerrillas to run from them they would end up running into the para’s killing line and the name is quite fitting because the rebels would be sandwiched in and wiped out.
The helmets they wore were actually British para helmets, and many actually wore British paratrooper smocks too, and the ‘french style flap caps’ were actually based of British South African flap caps from WW1.

The Rhodesian FAL's are rare as fuck! There is a collector that lives near my grandmother's house who has one. It's basically just a L1A1 with paint. I am actually pretty sure south America supplied most of them. They also had a big influence on modern chest rigs, wearing the mags low near your abdomen was first seen during the Bush wars. Westerners saw and it liked it, so they came up with their own designs.
South Africa had a licence from FN in Belgium to make FALs for their army and they illegally supplied Rhodesia, which shared a border with South Africa, weapons.
allalone that’s actually good to know. I had heard they came from South Africa but I didn’t know it was illegally done, I also didn’t know South Africa had their own license. I just figured they got most of their shit from Great Britain, that’s why I said they were basically L1A1’s. Are they semi-auto only or full auto and semi? The British L1A1’s were definitely semi-auto only.

allalone that’s interesting. The FAL is a solid battle rifle, but I don’t know how effective it would be in full auto. I haven’t fired one personally, but I have tired a C308, which is just an imported Cetme model 58, basically a G3. Roller delayed guns definitely increase felt recoil, but even if it was a piston operated gun I wouldn’t want to fire it in full auto. Full auto is cool but semi-auto is far more effective.
Chest rigs were used much earlier, during the the 1920's, Chinese soldiers had a kind of leather made chest rigs to carry stripper clips for their C96 Broomhandles. During the Chino-Japanese war, communist partisans used another kind of chest rig for rifle ammunition, with potato masher grenades attached on both sides to the harness.
And don't forget the chest rigs used by the NVA and the Vietcong for their AK's.

Mike Mansell they are using fals which is a .308 caliber battle rifle... bigger and heavier than m16 at the Time This game was set in. For how much space/weight fal mags take up, because of all steel magazines soldiers didn’t carry that many on body at the time. So taking in the facts of real life knowledge about the size/weight of the guns & the time spent in firefighters in this video, people should’ve been out of ammo or on they last magazine by the end of the video...
