Raising money for Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) to ensure everyone has a safe ride.
I was in the middle of trying to remove my rear main seal.
I am heading back to the garage to use your technique! I’m tearing down a ‘93 R100RT
She’s all apart just the block on my work bench.
Awesome
Man! Great video!
Watching for entertainment. Currently own a 21 Africa Twin AS, but shopping for an old airhead because the itch is strong! Love the vids!
I own a 95 R80 GS and do all the maintenance and the repairs all my self at home.Living in Türkiye. It is really fun working on airheads.I love them.
I run a k1300s but I like watching the videos regardless of bike
I own a bmw, i watched your fork seal video, now i watch for educational entertainment
fun to hear!
I don't own an Airhead but I ride with a guy that has 2. I enjoy the knowledge base. Thanks.
Don't own an airhead but might someday. Good information for down the road!
Thanks for watching!
I own a k1600b but I enjoy watching almost anything involving motorcycle wrenching. Mainly because you never know what your next ride that you add to your garage will be. Also, I do enjoy your videos. Always good content.
Nicely done video. Can't believe you didn't block the crankshaft from the front to keep it from moving forward.
Unnecessary, but good tip for a beginner
Excellent video, thank you. Nowhere near as much faff as an oilhead, but very enjoyable to watch
My neighbor came over, and I was watching your video. He told me I need to take this out to my job. His two cents come about everyday. I love that. I guess I work alone better. Thanks for the videos!
I own a '03 1150GS. Viewing your video as entertainment. It never cease to amaze me how BMW designed their bikes. With the ST1100 Honda demonstrated that you can have a longitudinal engine and shaft drive and a clutch that is fairly easy to dismantle... I'm a hobby mechanic and work on BMW as well as Japanese bikes. The Japanese bikes are so much easier to work on. You need a few spanners and there you go, makes little difference whether it is a Honda or a Yamaha. The Japanese know that a complicated design does not mean character, it is just bad design...
i don’t have a bmw. I want to get one as I am retiring soon. I am interested in getting a K1200GT or a K1300GT. I heard they have bad clutches, so to learn about their clutches, I found your channel. Thanks for the videos!
I'm watching these to learn :-)
Don't have a bike but strongly pondering to get one, likely a K1x00 but learning how bikes in general are built gives better understanding of the systems in general since I'm more familiar with cars.
I have a 1200C oil head and have 42,000 on it. I think it’s about time for a through service and clutch upgrade and this just gives me confidence to tackle the job over the winter.
good advice don't sit at the lights with your clutch lever pulled in ,i had a R80/7 i was in athens greece when the clutch piston sheared so grateful to the BMW dealer who not only had the parts but sent a guide with me to get me back to the campsite where my bike was i think there is an upgrade piston bearing available this video takes me back
Glad to see this one.
I don't own an airhead but taking the msf course soon and plan to own one! Great content, subscribed!
Welcome aboard!
Entertainment for me. I would like to buy a motorcycle soon, but have not found the correct model. Thanks!
Lovely bike btw. I do ride a BMW btw, a 2002 R1150RT,
I was trying to lube the splines on my airhead and completely forgot a step so I'm here to where I messed up 😅 I also plan to replace the clutch this winter so it's probably time well spent.
I really enjoy your videos. I don’t own a BMW but find your videos interesting and informative. I may be tempted to buy one eventually as it looks like they are not too difficult to work on.
Honestly, it’s not that bad
Very informative and the format is great as always🙏
Glad you enjoyed it
It seems to me as if you didn’t reinstall the sensor. At least you didn’t mention it, and I’m sure you would not have forgotten about it.
Awesome work, might be helpful to understand the time it takes for the whole job.
Wow.. Fantastic
Really enjoyed watching your video as I am a BMW airherad owner. You reused the flywheel mount bolts and the driveshaft connecting bolts which the shop manual says must be replaced along with the clutch bolts. You just unbolted the clutch with out the let out bolts despite the shop manual warning of the posibility of severe injury, and survived to tell the tale. I would be interested to hear your thoughts in the comments. Thanks
I did this same job to my 82rs model, not ever having done it before. Because the bmw was new to me, I went in there to check the splines, to swap in a new main seal, and to replace the oil pump and O ring there. All went pretty well, but my hate for the drive shaft boot is strong, fussing with the 12mm bolts, in and out of gear, along with the hose clamp is curse worthy work. You should go through the cam shaft blocking tip, its not that hard to rig for prevention. Also - you can fabricate some of the tools you used - drawings of the main seal installer, the clutch aligner, and more are online, and can be 3d printed, or fabricated.
I did by my self years ago. I spend some Money and put an oil resist Clutch in. It was a German Manufacturer. But I can’t remember the name jet. Maybe it was from Siebenrock. Great performance…👍🏽
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you!!!
You're welcome!
I own an 87 K75 and I love your videos!
I also own a Yamaha Super Tenere shhhhh
Glad you like them!
@@TheBMWGuy any “K” bike content would be much appreciated… I realize the k’s aren’t as loved as the boxers 🙂
Very well done video. Did that clutch kit have marks for balance orientation? I recently did the clutch on my 89 R100gs. The kit was a Sachs kit from EME and it was marked. I thought all BMW kits would have marks. I have just found your channel, so maybe you have already done this, but doing some videos like this with a paralever would be helpful. Definitely more of a pain removing the driveshaft than on the older models.
I'm watching just for enjoyment. I'm hoping that the process will be similar for my Moto Guzzi V7.
Thank you for the video! Watching to learn!
Rock on!
Considering buying a R65 so I want to see what is involved with a clutch replacement. Last bike I owned was a R1100 RT and a clutch replacement was a really big job.
I own airheads in MN. Thanks for the video. Did the customer notice the difference?
I own an '02 1150gs and have just paid a LOT of money for a new clutch, crankshaft seal and gearbox seal.
I can find videos on crankshaft seal replacement but NOTHING on gearbox/driveshaft seal replacement...
Maybe that would be something you'd consider covering at some point... 🤔
Take a look at my channel. I have a video doing this on a RT.
1976 R90s.
Nice bike
On my Moto Guzzi's i find that a slipping clutch is often caused by a rusted prise-axle. The splined axle on witch the clutchplate has to go a little forward and backward. This often occurs when a bike has been standing still over a longer period. I think i solved it a few times bij using the bike frequently and spraying some penetrating spray (holding graphite) into the hole on the flywheel housing. Did you ever see this occuring on any BMW with a dry clutch ?
Why not show how to prevent crank shaft forward movement?
May I ask for advice please? Struggling around and no results..
K1600GT 2017. Throttle errors are appearing, after restarting the bike they are gone..
I have one video on my channel with this issue..
07 r1200rt
Currently have an R18 so just watching out of interest.
That’s fun to hear!
