We sailed on QM2 about six years ago and had a sheltered balcony cabin on Deck 4. We're sailing again this summer--and since we loved the sheltered balcony so much, we've booked that class again, but this time on Deck 6, not far from yours (albeit on the other side of the ship). One thing I love about the sheltered balconies is that you have absolute privacy. Note that the "regular" balcony cabins are all visible from the promenade deck, and so depending on the deck level and sightlines, it's sometimes possible for people walking around the promenade to catch a glimpse on your balcony or even inside your cabin. That's simply not possible in the sheltered balconies, so if you're wanting peace and quiet without any roving eyes, the sheltered balconies may be a better choice. Plus, they're a few dollars cheaper.
My only question about Deck 6, specifically, is to wonder if you hear any noise from the promenade directly above you on Deck 7. Do you hear early morning joggers thump-thumping past your cabin? Or maybe some deck chairs getting rearranged? I suspect not, but I am a little curious. Thanks for a great video.

Hi there! Thank you very much for your comments and your questions. There are signs and notices around the ship that remind people not to jog or run on the promenade deck any time before 8am. I think everyone was respectful of that time. We did, however, hear people jogging or running, but it only would last a few seconds as they ran across the width of the ceiling. It wasn't that irritating as there were not too many joggers overall. We never did hear any furniture scraping, or anything like that either. The only thing that I could say is that on our turnaround days, we always heard the neighbors outside. Generally, people would spend a few minutes in their sheltered balcony and just be excited... and the voices DO echo, so it does get loud for a few minutes. On top of that, almost everyone SLAMS the door going in/out of the balcony as they don't realize the weight of the door, and they let it close on its own. (It is very loud). Other than that, the room is super quiet. The first 2 months we didn't hear a peep from our neighbours, but on the last leg we had a neighbour who didn't stop coughing 24/7... you could hear him through the walls, and it was non-stop. We had to leave the room a lot of the time because it was definitely irritating. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond, and have a great cruise!
