  • A few weeks ago I had a surprise clear night. I rushed to set up my scope and captured 3 hr 20 minutes of data on the Rosette Nebula using my asi2600mc pro and the Askar FRA400. I edited the image using my normal approach and then followed the tutorial from Luke (see below).

    I am sure you recorded the masked singer so you can watch that after dancing on ice........I use to love making Hubble pallet images from a osc camera. That's a really nice job and so much detail from just a quick nights shoot. well done mate and more clear skies to you.

      Haha, I can not stand that show, but Vicky has it on every weekend. Thank god it's finished now! Thanks mate, Luke's tutorial really helped pull out the colours.

    The Rosette is a beautiful winter target. You've done a great kob with both images. Not sure which I like better....

      Thank you very much James...It really is a fantastic target. Thanks for watching

    The Masked Singer!!! Oh the humanity!!. Lucky escape. Great image especially from just the three hours. I like both and on the Rosette I often prefer the red although in the Hubble version the extra nebulosity extending away from the Rosette seems to be more defined.

      Haha...yes I really can't stand it! I think the Hubble image is definitely the most popular! I agree there is much more detail/definition

    Hey Russell! - Man what a fantastic one-shot session, 3hr 20m and you've ended up with a lovely image to show for it, great job!!
    Thank you massively for the shout-out mate, I really appreciate it and I'm so happy that the tutorial worked out well for you - I'm biased I guess but the hubble-palette version is my fave one! 😀It definitely shows the different gases well!
    Top job man,
    Clear skies!

      Thanks very much Luke. I was impressed with the data for just 3hrs 20. Your video definitely helped me get the most out of it. Thanks again for such a great tutorial, love your PI tutorials...keep them coming.

    Super Image mate. Do love a random night of clear sky. Gets the flap factor going trying to set up the rig in a rush.

      Thanks mate, yeah it was a great surprise. Made rush setting up, I wasn’t expecting to film so had a camera and two lights run out of batteries while I was outside, so I just gave up!

    Great video Russell, the LExtreme is great! Nice to get a surprise clear sky! Luke’s tutorial is brilliant, I also followed it on my 10hr rosette image! Great work, excellent image👍 clear skies!

    Very nice! I'm still in awe that we can produce hubble like images from our own backyards. I have not come close yet. I blame it on lack of processing skills and inadequate gear. Turns out, I have subscribed to you and Luke's channel already. I am waiting for my asi2600mc pro to arrive. It will be a miracle if it arrives before Xmas. I have an Askar V on the way right now. I guess I will have to try out my new refractor with my canon 60D over the holidays. Looks like I will be purchasing pixinsight. I've spent way too much already. Might as well keep spending more! lol!

    You can do this in APP by splitting the channels while stacking then recombining using the hubble formula in APP. no need for pixelmath etc in pixinsight, in app extract ha then O3 then also do a mono stack for the green channel

    Great video Russell. I have the zwo 294 mc pro paired with the l extreme and have to say it's a really good filter. It does suffer a bit with halos but they can be clone stamped out. I've also found Lukes OSC hubble palette process to be very good. Definitely prefer your hubble palette image the best and actually no one would guess it wasn't taken with a mono camera using all three narrowband filters 👍

      Thanks Paul, yes I’ve been impressed with the L-Extreme filter on the few chances I’ve used it. Luke’s tutorial is fantastic

    That’s brilliant Russell! I really love the colours of the Hubble pallet. Great job. Once I get my 2600 mc pro working again I’ll try it. I just need to figure out how to do the processing in Photoshop, as I don’t use PI. Dr B from Manitoba, Canada

      @RussellsAstrophotography  2 года назад

      Thanks you very much Brian. I am sure that this is possible in photoshop, you will just need to slip the colour channels and re-assign them...I am sure that someone has done a RUclips tutorial on this. Hows the weather in Canada now? Have you been able to get outside with your scope at all?

    Cracking shot Russell & frankly I can't choose between the two results.
    I tend to like more `natural' colours but feel the Hubble version helps the human eye percieve more detail. Best answer is to produce both versions I guess.
    Like you I had that unexpected clear night, but blessed with a Bortle 1 sky I can take 30sec subs through my Samyang 135 @ f2.2 & probably capture the same (or more) data as a 5min sub from light polluted skies. On that rare clear night I too shot the Rosette but also 4 other nearby(ish) targets (about 220 subs each).
    I'm using Affinity Photo for end to end processing including stacking & need to look into creating the Hubble pallet with it. Others have done it with Affinity, so it's certainly do-able.
    I'll use your result & Lukes as templates of what to try & achieve I think.😊

    • @RussellsAstrophotography
      @RussellsAstrophotography  2 года назад

      Thank you Jonny. Yes I am sure this can be ached in affinity as well. Wow boatel 1 skies...I am extremely jealous. How did the image turn out?

    Great job and video Russel! I can see your guiding parameters are pretty good to 👍NEQ6 pro, the same mount as me. I do not get my guiding as good as you on my ASIAIR.
    Can you please tell me your settings in dec/ra? Have you done any tune on the NEQ6?
    Best regards
    Helge
    Norway😊

    • @RussellsAstrophotography
      @RussellsAstrophotography  2 года назад +1

      Thank you very much Helge and I'm very sorry for the slow response.
      I use a fairly high aggression on my NEQ6 of around 75 for Dec and 65 for RA (which others online have suggested against) but it seems to work for me. I've not done any tuneups on the mount no, but I do make sure that the balance is as good as it can be and that PA is spot on. The guiding has been pretty good for me using the asiair.

      I’ve never used Siril, but if you can split the channels you should be able to yes. Sorry I can’t be more helpful. Thanks for watching
