In this video I share four different Astro images taken with four different telescopes. The William Optics Redcart 51, the Askar FRA400, the Askar 80PHQ and the Celestron Edge HD. I share the data for the Fish Head Nebula, the Pacman Nebula, the Wizard Nebula and the Sadr region. Please let me know which is your favourite image in the comments below. I keep going back to the Redcat51 all the time and have just started pairing it with the 2600MC and am blown away by the detail in the images. Man that Askar 400 of the Heart is incredibly detailed! I have the Redcat, and the Askar really shows you how just a little more aperture makes incredible differences.

Wow Russell, 4 amazing images indeed 👍 I too like starless images and the last one with the Redcat is awesome! The detail with the Askar in particular I think is great, as are all the others! You’ve inspired me to take my Esprit of the rig though and put my Redcat on with the mono camera and antlia filters, that scope is just amazing! As for me, I prefer the stars with the nebulosity but subduing them somewhat ... more or less, like what you get using that new BlurXTerminator. All your images are fantastic though. I really like that "Fish head" but yes, the Sadr region is quite beautiful. Merry Christmas my friend.

Beautiful images, Russell! It's hard to pick a favorite -- they are all amazing, but I think if I had to pick one I'd choose the Sadr Region and Crescent Nebula. I really like the starless images! It changes the entire character of the images. Great job with them all!! I'm going to have to go back and watch your previous videos to see how you post-process to get that beautiful Hubble palette. Gorgeous.
Thank you very much Greg, The Sadr region is my favourite as well. I'm also a big fan of starless images, although I know they can be a little bit divisive. I've not posted an editing video for a long time and I've certainly changed my approach since that video...I think will need to update that video. Thanks again and thanks for watching

i like all of the images you showed. Again i love how you edit the colors! Question I have is how do you afford so many different set ups?! I love that you have so much passion and so many focal lengths to utilize, i just cant comprehend the amount of value you have within your grasp! either way im so happy i found your channel very inspirational! i may have to make a channel for myself and share my gear as well as results!

Red cat is nice but challenging to focus, it really is something to keep in mind.
Nice video. The audio is low volume. I liked the Redcat image the most but also liked seeing the focal differences in the first two.

Thank you. I will hopefully get around to recording a video on the tri-bahtinov mask soon. I picked it up eBay from a guy called jacktheprinter...he was excellent and makes them custom for your make and age of scope. I hope this helps
Those pesky Redcat's there's a guy at our local astronomy club who keeps trying to sell me his lol (I really can't afford it though) I do love the widefield shots & starless images are always a fave of mine.

Wow! You sure know how to drive a mount and guider! I was surprise to see that you mostly use a CEM60! After more than a year, I feel like giving up on my CEM120EC2. It's just too finicky.
I think I would almost prefer the starless images, but would put back just the faintest of stars. Something like a third of the star intensity in your images with stars? I wonder...
Give over, those stars on the fishead look fine to me 😀
Great images but I wish all targets were the same to compare and contrast the abilities of each scope.

Inspiring images. Looks like you make use of sulpher, not just hydrogen and oxygen filters. Perhaps that adds a colour dimension that is important in these images?

Nice video.. if you are to choose between a RedCat 51 and Askar 400 what would you go for knowing that an Askar with a 0.7 reducer has almost the same 51 FL with a 3.9 focal ratio ?
All starless once are really good. Need your input on Redcat51. Have you tried it with dslr and how diffrent would it be framing the same target?

Thanks Paul. I picked it up on eBay from a guy called jacktheprinter. He was fantastic. He custom makes them to fit your model and year of scope, very reasonable prices as well

1.Can askar 300 or 400 good for planet viewing such as moon,saturn ?.My main concern is viewing deep sky .Due to budget.
2.More aperture more light for deep sky [ like celestron nextstar 6se or 8se],then how askar can take such an incredible image?
Planets require a completely different gear and technique than DSO. Generally speaking,
DSOs require:
-a lot of long exposures to get more light
-low f/ number to get more light
-small focal lenght as they are very big
-good mount to make those long exposures accurate
-multiple nights imaging to get more total light
-cooled camera to reduce the noise of long exposures to a minimum
So a FRA 300/400 is an ideal scope for big DSOs but you also need a decent mount. If you want to do smaller and fainter DSOs you require longer focal lenghts but you also have to consider aperture to maintain a decent f/ number (ideally below 7) and thus a bigger scope that requires a bigger mount.
Planetary imaging requires:
-loooong focal lenght (ideally 2000+)
-high aperture not to get more light but to get more resolution
-f/ number isn't important for light gathering as planets are really bright objects
-reccomended f/ number depending on your camera pixel size (5x 7x rule)
-the mount doesn't need to be super accurate, just big enough to support a big scope
-high frame rate camera
-you're going to shoot high fps videos and select only a few lucky frames where the atmoshpere was still enough to make your big aperture do it's thing so you don't need a cooled camera
TL;DR a short small refractor and a decent mount with a cooled camera for DSOs, a big newt, SCT, RC or mak, a high fps camera and a mount that can carry everything for planetary.
Russell... Question about using the ASIAir with the C8 Edge HD and the 0.7x focal reducer. Have you had any problems with plate solving with the combination? ZWO states that the minimum FOV is 0.4 and yours, I think, is 0.72 x0.53 degrees... close. Thanks in advance.

So, what are conclusions? It will be great to get some numerical data such as FWHM and eccentricity with these scopes. Otherwise, it is impossible to compare photos shown at different scales and different targets. What camera do you have?
I shoot with the 2600mm pro and the 294mm pro for the edge HD...no real conclusions for this video, just sharing some images. Thanks for watching

Hello, yes I think it will work but you’d probably close to the payload limit. I’ve not used the edge on the HEQ5 yet, so can’t give you a definitive answer unfortunately. Thanks for watching and Merry Christmas
If you can afford it, you’re much better off pairing the EdgeHD C8 with the EQ6-R. With the HEQ5, you’ll probably be over the weight limit and not get good guiding. I personally use the HEQ5 with my Zenithstar 61 and use the EQ6-R Pro with my EdgeHD 800.
This is great I have a 540mm, 430mm refractor and a 200mm lens just need the SCT to do the same.
Do you think the 8” is the way to go? Looking to get one for galaxy season too.

Honestly I'm not quite sure what this video is supposed to show me about 4 different telescopes. I could not follow any of the comparisons at all. Just a bunch of images a you quietly spewing numbers out that made no sense to me at all. I am a novice so I'm sure you must have been making this video strictly for your subscribers so my apologies for lack of knowledge of the model numbers you were spouting off. Great images obviously but not much help to me as someone trying to see differences in equipment or techniques.
