HOLY SHIT IS THAT THE GUY FROM RUclips?! When's the spy video jowatt
@@sauron9759 I'm confused did you explain the key bind for acm I cant get that awesome radar box and I am confused
@@judehunt6956 all good! so at 4:06, the thing thats called "radar/irst beyond/within visual range combat" is what does that cool acm thing. keep in mind it has limited range. lmk if you have more questions
For those who want to dodge the Sparrow head on: Watch the missile as it comes for you. When its 4-6 klicks out, roll to either the left or right and point down. About a half second after that, begin to roll the opposite direction you chose and then aim up. The missile will not have time to correct plus it will be fighting gravity. It should narrowly miss you.
this intro giving me hope to get more then one kill in air realistic
Good video. My attention span was greatly engaged by those two great points you make.
Glad to hear it!
This actually helped me a lot. I didn't realize there were so many different radar modes, and now I am actually locking enemies haha. Thank you
This video is the most cursed shit I’ve ever seen but it did help ngl
This is the perfect level of dumbed-down for me. Pink marker, especially effective.
I’ve been learning how to use it at level 11, the aim 9’s used to work somewhat but the sparrows are way better to use, I’ve learned that sparrows are best used head in but they can also be decent when the enemy’s engines are facing you
Mhm that's why I stress using sparrows in head ons and sidewinders rear. Just remember your sidewinders have like 2.5km range, they can be really good since now adays a lot of people don't expect ir missles
Buying a top tier jet at level 11 wasnt the best choice, but too late to go back
Nice if you want a buddy to help practice and play with hit me up. Dont listen to the gate keeping. Supers ars a whole new game and i have to trach new and old players alike. Going fro. Props to supers is a slap i nthe face and many get shit on and quit back to props and get too scared to learn. Since its a super its anothe rera another game so there is. No gate keeping needed. Some people just love to invent stuff in their head and pretend its. a problem
Ayo? I never thought I’d see war thunder and vrchat in the same place gives me a weird feeling seeing these together.
Gotta be unique someone, helps me be more expressive :)
Need a key bind video 🔥
BROTHER THANK YOU!! I'm one of the stupid people that bought the F4s and has no idea how to play it and or how to use radar and this video helped me out tremendously so thank you, thank you, thank you. ❤❤❤😘😘
Hey glad it helps, good luck out there. Don't shoot me down too fast
Me too man 😂 also I’ve seen multiple videos of this type and I still do t get the all picture, what PD means on the radar and what’s the best radar mode to use in dogfighting and long range sniping, I also got the F4S but I suck with it, I die in the first 3 minutes of the match 😅😢😂
Here's a more in-depth explanation of radar/radar seeker mechanics for those interested
Wall of Text:
Radar missiles have two different flavors of seeker. Pulse and Doppler (CW). Pulse is your typical send a wave out and look for a return. It will lock and track the biggest return. This is why they can't see targets very well looking down (ground clutter) and why missiles like the French R530 series (except for the Super 530D) or the Russian R-3R struggle to acquire a solution on targets scraping the ground, even if the mothership radar can see them. These radars/missiles eat chaff like its a food addiction from any angle, but are immune to notching.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Doppler instead uses relative movement to both yourself and the ground. This is why you can't break their lock by going low. The idea of notching is that if you are at a perfect 90 degree angle to the radar, you are moving towards it at the same rate as the ground. Therefore, your relative velocity is 0, so it can't see you. If you're traveling towards the radar to any capacity, these radars/missiles do not care about your chaff or your feelings. Chaff also can work on them in rear-aspect, but it tends to require more countermeasures. Some missiles like R-27ER are also a bit more resistant in rear aspect to chaff than others. This technique works at any speed and any altitude.
Note - Just because a radar is pulse does not mean the missile can't have the same properties as doppler as currently modeled. If the missile is doppler, it will ignore chaff and keep tracking even if the main pulse radar is fooled so long as the mothership does not break lock. Notch for safety anyway.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An honorable mention would be MTI, standing for Moving Target Indicator. The radar effectively sends out a wave, looks at the shape of the return, sends out another, and looks for changes in the image. Think of it in practice like bootleg doppler with less range but better performance in rear aspect than early doppler radars. This feature is present on the Mig-23 series, the Mirage F.1, and the F-104S.ASA.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A final thing to note is the distinction between earlier doppler radars and later doppler radars. Earlier radars are the following.
AN/APG-59 - F-4J/S, FGR.2/FG.1
AN/AWG-9 - F-14A (BLK.60)
AI.Mk 24 Foxhunter - Tornado F.3
J/AWG-11/12 - Mitsubishi T-2/F-1
Thompson-CSF RDI - Mirage 2000C-S5, Mirage 2000D-R1
The above radars are very capable in front-aspect scenarios where the target is facing towards you, but struggle to lock targets in rear aspect when in doppler mode. The following radars are later, more advanced versions that can see in rear-aspect somewhat, if not, as good as they can in front-aspect.
AN/APG-66 (Series) - F-16 (Series), F-4EJ Kai
AN/APG-76 - Kurnass 2000
N019 (Series) - Mig-29 (Series)
N010 - Yak-141
PS-37A/46A - AJ/JA-37 (Series)
I love eating these with my mig23ml, r24r go wooooooosh boom
and i never thought id see the day where a vrchat egirl explains jet combat, take my fucking like
This made my day thank you lol
nice video but i think you forgot to mention how long it takes for the sparrows to start guiding once off the rails, give or take 2 seconds. that's why you shouldn't launch one within 2 km if they pull away. i would use the aim9h in a close rear aspect engagement. if you are in a head-on I would recommend launching the sparrow about 3-4 km away, using the PD mode you should be able to easily hit them unless they are very maneuverable.
Oh yeah that's why I talk about sparrows not tracking aircraft at same speeds, rear I wouldn't suggest a sparrow either since he's going cold. Head ons, little more forgiving since they fly into the missle. That's why most the ir shots are rear and most the radar shots are long range in the video
@GoodGuyRuska mhm, that's called slewing the seeker. But you don't need the radar lock to fire the h, you can just spool up the seeker (since it's a heat seeker not a radar missle) and do the same. But whatever works for you!
The AIM 7F, 7E-2 (DF) and 7M all start pulling off the rail.
@@SovietBear4 that might be the case now, but it wasn't 9 months ago

Bro luv this style
Never played this game but I understand what to do 👍
Glad to hear that friend! I hope it was mildly entertaining
Finally, somebody that explains this for numb skulls like me... 😂 cheers bro
Short hand... dont fire missiles into crowds W/ friendly. All of them can potentially lock onto your teammates if they are "more suitable" than your lock. I'll call out what target I'm engaged in and a team member will try to kill steal ya like in lower BR just to eat a IR or SARH... some IRs can be avoided even with rear lock simply by flying straight and flares...but in my opinion only work if you're familiar with
1. The jet targeting you
2. A strong understanding of said jet.
3. A firm grasp of warthunder game mechanics and missiles + radar...
Play it on the safe side and evade while throwing chaff and flares and moving in 90° angles from enemy aircraft. And in 11.0 ish BR STAY LOW...
Thanks a lot for this great video! Im still ...kinda...confused but it helped me to get onto the right direction :D
anything i can clarify?
@@sauron9759 Thank you very much for your reply!
I think its a problem between language barrier and key bindings.... 🙈
I finally managed to do some Kills ( well...around 1-2 total in 5 Games) but still have problems with the lock-on, switching the radar in the right moment in a head in and before I can shoot I already eat a missile.
Im also far far away from Handling the 4-dot-lookaround tracker correctly.... again a Hit the right Key in the right moment....😶🌫️
@SaschaWolf keybinds are your best friend, I suggest binding your lock button near your movement key to make it easier
@@sauron9759 ok now keybindings work fine, but still I dont know why I dont get a correct lock on. Tried several games now and its just frustrating.
I select the missiles (secondary) and start flying.
If enemy comes towards me, I enable the radar lock on...nothing. I switch to the other radar mode and still no lock on.... this happens around 60-70%.
The rest of the time I make it, do a radar lock, enable rocket, double red circles and fire....and nothing.
Only around ~5% are hits...
Same issue when I hunt someone and behind them... no matter if I use ACM ( I understood its used when they are high, above ground) or ACM PD (low to the ground or below)... lockon is on a small chance and if I get a lock, the missle does not hit.....
Sparrrow seems to hate me....
@@SaschaWolf sparrows can be a bit weird, especially new update. Sometimes they dont track its not a you issue, try to use the probability of kill indicator your radar provides.(the 2 lines on the radar screen, you want target to be inbetween.) as for not getting a lock, maybe your radar doesnt see him, or your range is too low, I suggest, staying low going in fast, with the hmd radar mode, and just using that to lock close head ons. you might have more luck
only 90 subscribers? should be atleast 10000 lol, nice job wingman
That's so sweet of you I really appreciate that! I'm glad you found it enjoyable
This actually makes so much sense-
holy tysm subed saved my life from getting dunked on every time
Glad it helped
Very good explanation, I hope to see more player learn their plane’s capabilities/game mechanics
For many people this might be the problem but mine is actually the complete unreliability of the radar lock. This AN/APG-59 seems to lose lock after a few seconds or in the stupidest of moments. It seems to be able to lock allies perfectly but enemies almost never reliably. It can lock a friendly plane in a jumble of enemies and keep that lock like a chokehold. It simply acts stupid.
While on the other side - anyone that can use IRST can suckerpunch you with medium range missiles passively while looking up at you like a fly on a wall with zero interference or distortion.
Try climbing to medium ranges, your radar will have trouble locking targets close to you or similar speeds. If locking friendlies is a really big issue, you might wanna consider switching to manual slewing the radar, so you can control what you lock. This method helps you pick targets, but takes longer to do and can get you killed
@@sauron9759 I'm trying both approaches. On medium altitudes the real killers are MiG-29s shooting straight up with IRST acquisition. This way I usually get jumped and killed after the 2nd Sparrow launch on average. I really like this aircraft and it can do a ton of money but it works really best on the largest EC maps where there is decent spacing. Not to mention that your RIO in the back seat should actually help with the radar. Getting through to ground targets is also impossible through this opposition.
What a time to be alive a goth anime girl with bounce physics explains radar to me at 02:00
this is my absolute favorite description of this video thank you
Thanks a lot
Notching only works when it’s anyone but me doing it.
Great video
Thank you!
My knowledge on this game has been expanded and come to the realization , i still dont want to play this game lmfao
Lmfao, definitely not for everyone. Much more fun to watch it for many people
this Video is very very helpfull, now i am pretty close to buy the F4-S :D
Hey glad it could help! I'd wait after the update though, just to make sure it doesn't become obsolete and you waste 70 bucks!
W content thanks man
Nice video. Very creative.
anything using vrchat: youtube recommends.
not sure i dislike this progress.
Mmm that's weird because I didn't use vrchat in the tags or #tags. Thanks for this info tho, I think that means the thumbnail alone can influence who it gets recommended to
Thanks for the tips an pointers as buying your way into jets its a rough learning curve.
I play on playstion, and I use controller, when I try to change the lock range, nothing happens, how do I change this and what are ideal bindings for playing war thunder on controller, because currently it is an absolutely painful
Mmm. I'm the wrong person to ask. Last time I played on console was 4 years ago, it is pretty abysmal. Since controller is a lot more limited, I'd suggest maybe D pad for radar modes n lock? I'd pick something near your fire or movement. Something that's comfortable. There's probably way better videos out there geared towards Playstation though, sorry
This is like a car crash in slow motion, I can't look away while watching because I love Phantoms, but why the v-tuber VRChat narration?

OOOO great point, ACM is lock target beyond visual range
So me it was num 4 at timestamp 4:05
I am literally so confused about this plane, I just seem to keep exploding without any warning, I'm being super observant but can't see missiles at all and then all of a sudden boom I'm gone and 0 kills 0 bombing wtaf is going on
if your getting killed without rwr warning(the beeping) its an ir missle, those are short ranged and appear visually with smoke trails, try flares if you see them, cut that after burn

Idk why you said pulse Doppler is useless as it’s way better and far more useable in more situations than the regular pulse radar
Pulse doppler radar is more susceptible to notching, beaming, and flanking. (The way you defeat radar regularly) while src normal holds lock better at defending bandits. I prefer high alt game play, so I prefer src :). It's a personal choice really
@@sauron9759 with src if they even do much as go towards the ground it won’t lock and let’s be honest who really notches and evades radar missiles other than ground goers
@multimemer5317 100% correct! That's the point of PD to filter groud clutter as I'm sure you're point is. Again it's really a personal thing, this guide is aimed at newer players, I think it's important to install fundamentals of BVR combat. I'm not sure what you mean by people not notching high alt, because from all the games I play quite a lot do! But again, whatever works for you and your playstyle!

when your flying low to the ground, then switch to normal src only if your high(which as of new update, dont climb :3) or if your target is flying cold(away from you).

Against 12.0, sure. But that's virtually anything that isn't 12.0. Against other 11.3's, I'd say the F-4S is one of the most capable aircraft in the game from its sensor and weapons suite. What makes or breaks teams are the people flying it. Lived at top tier ever since supersonics were a thing and All I can really say in most cases is "The plane isn't shit. The players flying it certainly are though".

@@sauron9759 to be honest, i am not the average percent of level 5's who just bought the f4s. the highest ive got in planes without paying would be 9.7 on ussr, so i have also experienced some of the grinding suffer. war thunder still remains fun for me though. thanks for the video by the way, my first 10 matches with the f4s sucked i got instant deaths but after learning how the radar works i got a 4 kill game. i mean i still die in a lot of matches but i get kills in a few, slowly getting the hang of it

Possibly including any differences with real life radars. The more you know about radar, the better you can deal with it :)
