The musical revolves around the antics of Mame Dennis, a fun-loving, wealthy eccentric with a flare for life and a razor sharp wit. Her life is suddenly changed when she becomes the guardian of her late brother's only child, Patrick Dennis. Her adventures take us from the speak-easies of the roaring 20's to the depression following the great Stock Market crash. She is rescued by a wealthy Southern plantation owner, marries and is widowed suddenly, and through it all, manages to keep things under control. With some help from her dearest friend, Vera Charles, she helps keep things at 3 Beekman Place a rousing free-for-all.

I loved her in this regardless of all the criticism
Me too! What criticism? This was absolutely fabulous. I like this version more than any of them. As much as I love Angela Lansbury
@@davidwhite3180 The film was universally panned. It got terrible reviews. Lucy herself said she would never appear on the big screen again because of the negative reception to "Mame". Too bad. I quite enjoy the movie.
This was a wonderful move! Lucy didn't have to be a perfect singer to pull it off. She did because she is Lucy. This movie has become a cult favorite. Lucy is an immortal legend! We all miss her.....
I love all the versions of Mame, including Lucille Ball's!
Bea Arthur....oh gosh, I loved her scenes in this movie! Lucille fit this character so well.
"Lucille Ball: America's most unique actress": Good heavens! I didn't realise there were different degrees of uniqueness.
Fun fact my mom told me her auntie was a friend of lucille ball when they were kids. She told my mom alot of her storys...all the time!
lucy and maude a dream team!
I'm sorry but I actually love this movie. Lucille Ball is my favorite actress good or bad singing.
I love her tenor voice.
Lucille did it all very well.
I LOVE THIS MOVIE !!!
Lucille Ball..what a talent...
My favorite movie of all time...fight me! Lololol!
Critics ripped this movie apart but Bea Arthur and Lucy were both still was nominated for a Golden Globe for their roles.
I loved it - watching it for the 3rd time.
❤ So Many critics criticized her: yet, Lucile Ball was spectacular in my opinion ❤
Lucille Ball is the best Mame I wish I could find the DVD.
+Rai Lkyi She took a marvelous stage musical and turned it into drek. Try to find the clips on here of the REAL musical' Mame' - Dame Angela.
you can find this movie on Amazon they have it on dvd
I know
I know this one got bad reviews when it was first out, but it is one of my favorite musicals.
Honestly, I personally have to agree.
@@oinkbagoink1505 same
Loved it I watch it over and over
Me to just love mame.great movie.😀😄🙂
overall it was fun and great movie❤️
One can only imagine what wonders Angela Lansbury would have achieved in the screen adaptation of the musical.
Of course Dame Angela should have been better.
Grateful that Lucy did the film - she was every inch the movie goddess!
A better job than this
@@dianavictoriaaljadeff5302 I knpw
I personally liked Lucille Ball in Mame. Don't wonder anything about Lansbury in it. I loved Rosalind Russell in Auntie Mame (non musical) Loved both movies and both actresses in them.
I have read every comment here, I’ve watched the Rosalind non musical edition, I’ve watched Angela L.
My opinion is no matter what, me with a musical ear loves Lucy. I’ve watched it well over 20xs. It’s my absolute favorite. I love Angela. However Rosalind can have several seats. Go Lucy. Fabulous Absolutely Fabulous.
I try to imagine what this would have been with Angela Lansbury in the title role.
It probably wouldn't have flopped like this one did.
WoW that brought back so many wonderful memories, only 2 years to get it done....lol?
i think Lucille Ball was GREAT in "Mame"!
Would love to sse Lucille Ball and Jerry Lewis interviewed together. They both love to be fawned over.
I wanted to be that kind of Aunt!
This trailer certainly didn’t help lmao
It looked like they smeared half a tub of Vaseline on the camera lens whenever Lucy was shown in close up
Rex Reed famously called it "chicken fat"
This should've been Angela and Bea leading it, the world would've loved it so so much.
Another troll
No one compare to Mrs. Ball.
Angela turned it down. Fun fact.
@@davidwhite3180 Angela Lansbury absolutely compares... especially since she originated the role!
@@PeanutsAssorted your opinion apparently doesn’t matter. Because Lucy did a wonderful job.
I still think Rosalind Russell is the best Auntie Mame.
Yeah! Rosalind Russell all the way! The one and only!
Oh come on Angela Lansbury is and always will be the best Auntie Mame
@@Bend818 I Hope You Mean Rosalind Russell
By far. Lucille Ball, as fab as she was, was the wrong casting choice and the result reflects it. Nothing compares to Rosalind Russell in the original film or Angela Lansbury in the stage version.
I think the best Mame is rosalind Russel, but i love the songs from the musical.
For an example i like soo much "need a little Crhistmas" sung by Lucille Ball because she is similar to a grandmother.
"'Mame' is filled with excitement and fun." You'd never guess from this surprisingly dull trailer. It should have started with the Gooch Christmas tree lighting up (2:23 on this) and gone right on to the title number dance routine, introducing the star as America's favorite redhead...brunette...blonde. At least it shows part of the tango that was cut from the film. Of course, with that rotten script and Lucy's broken leg, the movie didn't have much of a chance anyway.
Someone should CGI Angie Lansbury in the film lol
Oh wow! I want to see this!! It looks a fabulous!
It is.
Don't bother. It's pretty awful.
It looks like a 1950s movie and it was 1974.
ThIs is a good movIe!
I love this movie but Dame Angela Lansbury is the best mame .
Could the narrator sound any more bored?
David L Rattigan Ben Stine
Wow
Angela should have been cast as Mame in the movie. Or at least someone with Angela’s style and panache and Ginger Rogers’ vitality and dance skills. Lucy had neither. She was Lucy playing…Lucy. However, Bea Arthur and Robert Preston were both perfectly cast and played their roles to perfection.
"Croak! Bark!" goes Lucy's voice (at least Stritch had pitch), "Creek! Snap!" go her joints, and she never dies quite do a dance. She just sort if does a shuffle and the camera cuts away to something else. No one, including Streisand, was ever shot through linoleum before or after Lucy. Sometimes there's so many filters on the camera lens that you can't see her eyes. Madalyn Kahn must have been relieved when Lucy fired her from this drag queen mess.
I’m a singer. She’s on key. And I absolutely love it.
How can I rent this movie
What a shame they couldn't find an actress who could actually sing.
First movie I ever walked out on.
MsSoundguy that's too bad you had to miss out
Loved Mame
Would she make the same mistakes if you walked into her life today?
You probably needed exercise.
@@sashineb.2114 I love it!
They needed Marni Nixon on the soundtrack, CGI on the close ups and a stand in for the dance numbers.
Or they could cast an age-appropriate actress who could sing and dance.
@@dannycarrington1601 Like Angela Lansbury
The I Love Lucy years were brilliant. She lost it after that. It all became too mechanical. I saw her in person for a Mame press party. She was absolutely beautiful--didn't need all the camera tricks. But she had lost the vigor of Lucy..
She was much older when Mame was filmed, plus she had a serious skying accident where her leg was broken in 4 places. I don't care what anyone says, I love Lucy and I loved Mame.
Bea my Evening ❤️
Lucy was totally wrong as Mame.Angela Lansbury should have made the movie .
Troll
She’s fabulous.
It took 2 years because Lucy broke her leg.
i think kari lake uses lucys filter.
As awesome as Lucille Ball was, I still prefer Rosalind Russell’s version of “Mame”
Boy does the narrator oversell and overhype. Is it really that bad?
Yes, it's awful.
Yeah, I wouldn't call Lucille Ball "the most versatile actress of all time." LOL.
Lauren Bacall can't sing...but she got a TONY for the musical APPLAUSE.
Lucille Ball was miscast in the lead role.
Angela Lansbury is the one and only Mame!
I love Lucy
Cruelly Deville
I love Lucy, bad movie! Not Rosalind Russel not Angela Lansbury when it comes to musicals.
Auntie Mame with Rosalind Russel was not a musical.
Such a disappointment! Lucy was over head with this one.
I haven't seen this movie, but I must say this is not a good trailer.
Only two things were wrong with this movie. First, Lucille Ball should have had a facelift while she was recovering from her broken leg. Then the soft focus would have been unnecessary. Second, they should have dubbed her voice for the singing. Other than that, she was great. Great actress, comedienne, and even dancer.
I love it the way it is.
If this trailer comprises the best bits, I’ll give it a miss. Looks mind numbingly dull.
Lucille Ball was horribly terrible to be playing Mame! Should have gone to Angela Lansbury!
Angela can't sing
Angela is way better than Lucy
This was a terrible moviere
The only true Mame was Rosalind Russell
Auntie Mame with Russell was not a musical
She makes Angela Lansbury look like an amateur
HORRIBLE!!
Yes, you are
Agree
You probably are horrible. You probably lack in taste. I love it.
I love Lucy but this movie was mediocre
Seems like a big crappy excuse for political agenda.
Believe it or not this film and musical has nothing to do with politics. Contrary to popular belief nowadays not everything is part of some crazy political agenda.
This is when cocaine started infiltrating the Hollywood scene…
