    That wispy, fog-like patch of Andromeda seen with the naked eye reveals itself beautifully on clear November nights. I have spotted it many times over the years. What one sees is the faint glow of Andromeda’s central bulge. Even at a distance of over two million light years, that galaxy is immense, for your eyes are not seeing the full picture. It is awe inspiring and thought provoking. Give it a look!

    • @imkindahungry04364
      @imkindahungry04364 7 лет назад +15

      Daniel. S the collision is going to happen so slowly and cover such great distances that our microscopic solar system won't be affected at all. I heard that trying to find the Earth in the milky way is like trying to find a quarter somewhere in the United States

    • @thesupertendent8973
      @thesupertendent8973 7 лет назад +10

      Daniel. S: that's not how stars work, stars are billions of kilometres apart, so if something as big a star passing our solar system... The chance of that happening 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 to 1.. So shut up with your doom-n-gloom

      Daniel. S Crashing through solar system is way better then my front door..even though the galaxies are huge the distance between the stars is so great that collisions are extremely remote. The gravitational effects the stars have on each other will cause major changes to the shapes of both galaxies, or even a combining of both groups of stars.

    This is going to be such a spectacular event,unlike any other galactic event within our own universe that humanity has ever witnessed. More than likely,humanity will be flourishing on perhaps other galaxies or planets,since the technology of intergalactic travel will have long since been mastered once the Collison of both the Milky way and the Andromeda galaxies do occur. How does astronomers measure the speed of the two galaxies,as they race toward each other?

    I thought the universe is expanding faster than the speed of light with everything moving away from each other! So, how can these galaxies collide?

    • @odhip3851
      @odhip3851 6 лет назад +3

      Although the universe is expanding on the grand scale, relatively nearby galaxies are attracted to one another due to the gravity of the dark matter present between them. At a relatively local level, this gravity is stronger than the forces causing the expansion of the universe. This causes the objects within galaxy filaments to coalesce even as the filaments themselves (separated by voids) move away from one another. On a much smaller scale than galaxy filaments, the dominance of gravitational attraction ensures that planets keep revolving around their parent stars. On a grander scale, objects that are currently further than about 14 billion light years from us are moving away from us at a rate faster than the speed of light.

    For a moment I freaked out cuz I thought it was going to happen in like, a few years but when u said that's going to happen in like 4 billion years I was like:"Phew we'll be dead by then!" Lol😂(The sun thing btw not the collision thingy it's not fair i won't be able to see it...😭)

    I guess and astronomer in Andromeda is talking about the collision with Milky way

    Why would they collide? If the universe is expanding
    and we all are going the same speed, because we are expanding that say we
    Getting further from each other in distance...
    So how can w e collide???

    yea we might be on another planet by the time these two galaxies collide... not sure about another planet outside of the milky way galaxy though.. I guess time itself will tell and it will be an amazing event

    Guys don’t worry about how we are going to ‘die’ when our galaxy hits because how technology is getting so advanced we will probably be off exploring space in just 123 years
